Carl was 100% on the money naming the Raiders as a Top 5 NFL team. I don't care if they've moved half a dozen times and have been up and down for years, they just have a look and an attitude that says "FOOTBALL". Also, to Hayes' Pats-Warriors comparison, I'd say that the Pats are the Bulls. An afterthought of a team that, for a decade-plus, put together the complete package. The league's best player, the best supporting squad, the best coaching, multiple championships - and then, in an instant, it all fell apart and they returned to irrelevance. But what they accomplished in that span is going to keep them in the public consciousness for ages. (But this is also an age bias thing; I have no idea if a person born after, like, 1996 would understand just how dominant the Bulls were.)

2024-02-24 01:10:20 +0000 UTCAs a Philly person, local support is fanatical and borderline unhinged but it doesn’t carry outside the area in the same way as other cities teams

2024-02-23 17:19:40 +0000 UTCNBA: Nailed it, its Celtics, Lakers, Pistons, Knicks, and Bulls but I think they may be hanging by a thread NFL: Steelers, Packers, Cowboys, Patriots, and I'd go with Eagles but that is close MLB: Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals, Dodgers, Cubs NHL: Canadiens, Maple Leafs, Bruins, Red Wings, and probably Penguins

2024-02-23 14:07:35 +0000 UTCWays to fix all star weekend: Dunk Contest: Instead of having players make up dunks, have a panel of Old Heads come up with a list of 10-15 dunks that they can select for each player (maybe have 6-8 players in the contest). The Old Heads huddle up, pick a dunk that the player has to execute, and they judge them based on how well they executed it. The players will know which dunks are on the list, but they will not know which one gets chosen for them until it is their turn. Also, more than one player can be given the same dunk in the round so they always have an equal chance at each one. Instead of East vs West do offense vs defense. Have an offensive team battle the elite defense. Prize money gets distributed to winning team, but have a second pool that gets divided up between the teams based on how close the game is (within 10 points it gets split 50/50, win by 20 and its 75/25 and so on). Also, have achievements where an individual player gets a cash award for first block of the game, longest three made, first dunk, etc. New event: NBA Fan contest-have players compete in the fan contest they always seem to run-layup, free throw, three pointer, half court shot. Have the players see who can complete it the fastest. Then bring up a fan who does it and they win if they can complete it faster than the slowest NBA player time. Three point contest: Have players shooting against each other at the same time. Have them start from opposite sides, each has their own rack at each spot, but there is a possibility of a ball stopping another shot. Instead of rising stars game either have young guns play a college all star team or have them play best of developmental league. If you really want to have fun, have them play a legit game against either the globetrotters or a street ball team.

2024-02-22 19:41:11 +0000 UTCSteelers absolutely deserve to be in the Top 5. I thought the Pistons was the one they got the most wrong tho. I’ve never met a Pistons fan irl.

2024-02-22 18:21:15 +0000 UTCPutting the Mets on Mt. Baseballmore is big coastal elite energy (speaking as a Mets fan). Nobody outside of NY cares about the Mets and they've never had a stretch of serious domination. Carl proposed the Cardinals which I think is much closer to true, that's a team that actually terrorized a whole swath of middle America for decades. No opinion is wrong but just my take. Edit - oh, I just heard Hayes kick out the Mets for the Braves right at the end. Well, fair enough.

2024-02-22 18:04:50 +0000 UTCHORSE does seem like it would be good for All-Star Weekend, but they did it for two years (2009 and 2010) and it was bad. Worth trying again though -- can't be worse than the All Star Game.

2024-02-22 17:26:03 +0000 UTCGlad the Pistons got included. I'm biased, so I wasn't sure if others had the same feelings on them. Probably helps that beyond the Lakers/Celtics/Bulls that there aren't a lot of obvious choices. Seems like they completely forgot about the Steelers. I'd put them ahead of the Bears for sure.

2024-02-22 08:08:40 +0000 UTCI used to go watch my friend play ball at Rochester college, where he was teammates with future Bucks GM Jon Horst. My friend is always telling me how every move Jon makes is so smart, never heard him criticize anything the Bucks have done. Those days ended the minute they hired Doc and I got a “what the fuck is Jon doing?” Text as soon as the news broke. I would say Doc is a divisive coach, but I’m not sure divisive is the right word when 99.9% of people think he’s a horrible coach and the other 0.1% apparently run front offices across the league.
