2024-12-07 20:00:10 +0000 UTCI know it’s already been said but the Utah Hockey Club name is temporary. It wasn’t picked in a fan contest. Just like how the Washington Football Team was temporary. Just buying themselves time. Utah is treated as a brand new expansion team. The Coyotes are considered “dormant”. The identity and history of the club stays in Arizona (even though that includes them being the old Winnipeg Jets). If the old owner builds a new arena in Arizona, the Coyotes are back. Because the NHL execs are seemingly obsessed with Arizona. Also they moved in part because people didn’t want to keep giving them subsidized arena money. I wish I could have seen them when they played at that college and seen NHL hockey in a 5000 seat arena.

It's a placeholder because they got the team suddenly this year and it takes a long time to create Jersey's, Branding, merch, etc. They just picked a name this summer, but haven't announced yet. They'll likely be the Utah Yeti(s).
