2024-10-23 13:36:08 +0000 UTCNot to get all Hayes about city history: Stadiums like Yankee, Fenway, Wrigley, etc, are so old that they were *somewhat* out-of-the-way places when they were first built, and the cities ended up being developed around them. You can look up pics of the first Yankee stadium being constructed, shocking how empty the surrounding area is. Once you hit the 50’s and 60’s, cities had developed too much to fit the then-popular mega stadiums into the city itself, so they have to be in bumblefuck nowhere, especially for how huge football stadiums are. There’s been a turn back to smaller accessible baseball stadiums the past decade or two, though, the Pirates stadium rocks. I think basketball/hockey stadiums have always been in the city because they’re usable in winter and can be venues for other things
