Warriors vs Heat | SL Gm-2 |

Comments

Ok unc.. ya making me want to toss all these trade ideas after game 1 with the rooks?!

@thecryptoPA

Although a young player I would say Kuminga does use his left hand!

Neba Jorgacevic

Great analysis.

Nathan Glanzer

I agree, at this point they just need some bodies at the PG position to buy Steph some time

Kevin Chan

i think you miss the point. I like Wiseman. But he has no game. there are alot of people who have no game. I have no game. This is not a comment about his person or his character. My comment is about the people, Myers and Co, who are running this ship. They dont seem to know what they are doing. All good picks, Curry, thompson, etc are from the time of West. But Myers has taken the credit. He screwed up last year and the years before. And when you pull that hubris shit about "light years", you better be on it, or I will give you crap for every bad decision you make until you apologize or die. I dont take well to arrogance.

Tyler Durden

Jessup can’t be signed as a two-way player, only if bought out of his contract with the NBL team

Breno Guimarães

Can GSW sign Isaiah Thomas? He is killing it now in other leagues

Natto Santo

They might Mannion will be on a 2-way hopefully with McLaughlin and GP2 who can not be on a 2way could get that back up PG on the 15 man roster and I think he is first in line if the FO strikes out on Bradly and there is the unlikely scenario that Shroder signs with us for the MLE just to spite LA.

Rareform

I totally forgot about Justinian Jessup as one of our stash picks. I think he can be a candidate for the other two-way spot. I don't know much about the rookies but I'm excited with the new energy that they'll bring.

Haha… No.

quantumferret

Geez man way to be a downer

JP Raimondi

Trade Wiseman for future pick. Pick up Yurtseven and take him to the weight room every day for 3 hours. Kuminga looks good and like there is some BB IQ there, unlike our Wiseman friend. Yes I will keep saying this. Wiseman is a bust. See you in 3 years. We shall see. He has not shown he has any bag. What a waste of of 2nd pick. Specially when LeMelo was there. Dont get me wrong, I like Wiseman, but more as a sales associate at Ross.

Tyler Durden

I sure hope Moody can be the guard version of Looney in the ways that matter. Looney, when he’s healthy, has consistently been one of the most impactful players in the league in terms of net rating on/off splits, which is one of the better indicators of whether a team is better when a certain player is on the court. If Moody can be the guard version of that, then we can have a lot of flexible, dominant lineup options. Tbh I think Looney gets an undeserved amount of crap because his game isn’t aesthetic and he can look lumbering at times, but that conveniently ignores the fact that he always ends up in the right place when rotating on defense, setting screens, being an outlet around the basket when someone gets doubled or collapses the defense, and rebounding/loose ball situations.

quantumferret

I think that’s because Kuminga is coming from playing against the G League. People write it off, but the general consensus is that the G League is the 3rd-most talented league after the NBA and the Euroleague - it’s a cut above D1 ball and then some. Moody looked fundamentally sound and like he can carve out a role right away, which is where the NBA readiness comes in. But he still has to adjust to playing against pros. Kuminga has already played against guys in the G League, and he had the second-biggest target on his back in the G League, after Green. So Moody looked much more polished than Kuminga, but you could still tell that Kuminga was used to playing against the speed and power of pros. Both were encouraging in their own way

quantumferret

Yeah, people forget that someone like Duncan Robinson played three years abroad after college before seeming ready for the transition to the NBA. That feels like an appropriate comp for Jessup, and I’ve been encouraged by his ability to make the correction rotation on defense, crash the glass, etc. I think another year or two of playing pro ball overseas, proper nutrition and conditioning to speed his lateral movement up and improve his handle, and he’ll be able to play in the NBA. Right now the SL is beneficial for him, but a little tough for us to watch him on the court. But that’s fine, summer league is the time to take your lumps ya know?

quantumferret

Jessup looked intimidated. That could be a character thing or he could overcome it and show some backbone. The NBA is a tough league. I don't care that it was "tougher" in the '80s, it's still tough. And maybe there is some cultural stuff going on too. Seems to me that the G League helped Jordan Poole make a psychological leap forward in terms of putting his skillset to use in a smarter way without as much hesitation. Maybe Wiseman could use some time in the G League.

Tao Rodriguez-Seeger

Both rookies looked good. I was worried about the Kuminga Pick, but I am less worried now. He is a special athlete and has a dog mentality. I like that. He has a guard like first step to. Being that big with that quickness is amazing. He will benefit a lot playing with Draymond! Moody on the second unit with the defense, and corner 3 shooting ability is going to be nice. I was happy with what I saw with those two. Jessup, send his ass back down under. He isn't ready to me. I think his lack of athletic ability hurts him playing in the NBA. He looks overwhelmed to me Nice breakdown. I was waiting for your view on things.

Keith Reynolds Jr.

My God

Qiushi Hu

Kuminga is just looking SO good in spite of his rawness. Like someone in discord said, Kuminga oddly looks more NBA ready than Moody who many expected to be the most NBA ready of the two.

Morris Kennedy

excited for kum bucket

Tony Stark

Wise will not be healthy until training camp at the earliest.

Noel Corcoran

I keep hearing that (from fans) but I haven't seen it anywhere.

Carla Davis

Those #7 picks from Golden State

Julian

Kuminga and Moody both looked real nice.

Major Powers

Kuminga and wiseman are both raw, but wiseman does have the benefit of knowing the system and won't be asked to shoot in the same way kuminga will need to be. Like kuminga is gonna have an uphill battle with porter and if they go small ball 5 bjelica stretches the floor better and dreymond is better defensively. I also think that wiseman has been delt a bad hand to start. Misses college, no summer league, gets injured, no summer league again. Wiseman has the challenge of having to fit with a bunch of perimeter stars which hampers his ability to play significant minutes. Passing, defense switching and timing, and awareness take time to develop. You could see wiseman make HUGE strides when he finally figures it out. It could be the phoenix suns with ayton.

Robert St.Claire

That Kuminga pick is going to go down in Warriors history as one of the best. I suffered through 40 years of lousy picks year after year, what a breath of fresh air to see them get one right. Why can't they keep GP2 and Mannion? If Bjelica can function as a back up big wouldn't that open up a spot? Everyone says the need is a veteran guard. GP2 offers a rare skill set; he can absolutely shut down the opponent's best guard.

Jerry Heverly

Kuminga will be 6'10" in 5 years, still has time to grow!

Jimmy Ji

getting boards!

Joshua Davis

Excited to see a Poole, Nico/GP2, Kuminga, Moody, Wiseman lineup

Abhi Kelkar

I have to say: it's only one game-and the competition is not NBA starters. BUT: Kuminga looks a lot closer to being able to contribute than most pundits have been saying. Not saying he's on the roster-he'll start in Santa Cruz-but he has more of a feel for the game I think than Wiseman had last year-and Wiseman started against the Nets. It makes me sad that Wiseman never, ever gets a chance to just play games-it's so obvious he needs summer league/G League. But Kuminga=future is bright. I also like the Moody reference to being the guard version of Looney. He's a baller and was in the right place at the right time a lot last night. Good stuff. Now with the latest Ben Simmons yap-don't trade some of these guys if Ben is shutting out Philly. Let it festerr and see how low they go.

Paul Hanson

New on the patreon, but a long time fan on Alch. Do you guys know if Wiseman is going to be available on summer league? Would be nice to see him play along side with rookies and "inexperienced" players.

Bruno Salomao

If Yurtseven is a signable FA...is that what Alch said?! If so, I say sign him to a minimum ASAP. We have no depth at C. Have the new big man coach work with Wise, Yseven.

Noel Corcoran

He's half a year younger than Chet Holmgren who's likely going first overall next year.

Yehudah Raphaelsohn

I was most impressed by Kuminga's footwork and ability to score in the paint. He definitely has the body to take advantage of mismatches in the post even though the post game is pretty much an afterthought in the current NBA. Kuminga is the slasher the Warriors have been looking for all these years. Moody just needs to focus on being a good defender and spot up 3-point shooter and he will earn himself 15-20 minutes a game. As for Wiseman, he just needs to focus more on becoming a solid defender in the post. I don't envision Warriors needing much from Wiseman on the offensive end besides maybe being a lob threat or a floor spacer if he can develop a 3-point shot.

Jimmy Ji

Great vid Alch.

John Pettus

its true.. there shouldn't be any boring min all year

Athletic Alchemy

team culture building!

Athletic Alchemy

I feel the same. I really WANT to love him, but he doesn't seem to have all the skills required for the NBA level. No court vision. Handles worse than Wiggins. And he hasn't delivered the 1 thing he's supposed to be really good at.

John Pettus

absolutely!

Athletic Alchemy

i hope we get lucky and are able to sign McLaughlin and/or Schakel to our g league team.

orion

everything kuminga did both positive and negative was done with an absence of fear. Thats a huge deal for a kid that young to not suffer from the timidness guys like Wiggins Wiseman HB suffer from. Kid has a star mentality. Talked shit on defense in the third wuarter, got his team in a huddle, got the loudest cheers from his teammates during pregame intros. love it

Slurpy

i could see them taking another look at jessup next year after more time in aus or g league. thankfully, front office seems to have learned their lesson from smiley

orion

maybe we need to see Wiseman play to make a judgement, but Kuminga looks like more playable player in NBA as right now. And I could see the path for him to be a star or even superstar, whereas Wiseman has many hoops to jump. Kuminga is raw, but he is a basketball player. He has court awareness and even show signs of leadership. On the other hand, Wiseman is more like a excellent athlete than a basketball player.

Tai Jan Huang

if there was any doubt to if the warriors will be must watch tv this season there is no question anymore. the chef, klay's comeback, watching rookies develop. I dont think i have ever been this excited to watch summer league. The heat are true to form and just play well as a team with a dog mentality. Yurtseven is legit and im curious where he ends up. Looks like he could add some weight though but im impressed with his skill. Jessup didnt have a great game but who cares, we were all here to watch our #7 and #14 ball out and they did. I really think Kuminga is Giannis in a SF body. Only thing holding him back is him. If he works hard enough he has all the skill and support to grow in this orgnization. Moody reminds me of a blend of Looney and Iggy and i think his IQ will allow him to get minutes with the big club. Kuminga will demand minutes if he can go 1/3 from the corner and play with "force". LV here we go. When Nico gets back it will be interesting to seem him dot up these guys because his greatest skill is playmaking and passing.

Joshua Davis

I gotta say, I was impressed with Kuminga. But thats only cuz my expectations of him were actually pretty low. Hearing all these things about him being raw and what not, he looked a lot better than I expected. Being only 18, I really hope he can take the Giannis route and get bigger/stronger and learn a LOT to really turn into the true star he COULD be. Im chalking up most of his mistakes tonight to nerves and rust. I'll be honest though, I have zero hope for Jessup. His effort in the Kings game was nice to see, despite all his bricks. But in this game...idk. Everytime he was on the court, its like the whole team died down. He doesn't pass the eye test to me. Sure he CAN shoot, but like. Am I alone here in thinking this dude is not gonna be cut out for this league? Maybe I am...

Jansen E

Appreciate the support ✊🏽

Athletic Alchemy

I said same thing about Moody last night on twitter. You felt Kuminga's buckets but you look up and Moody the leading in scoring. Right spot right time is exactly the thing.

Anthony Gray

So Kyle Guy is somehow on our team now?

Ivan

Kuminga is 12 months younger than Cade, 8 months younger than Jalen Green, , and 16 months younger than Mobley/ Barnes & Suggs. Crazy

Floyd Royce Farnham

Hm maybe I was wrong about Kuminga, initially I thought he was one of those athletic guy who has no basketball intelligence or feel (aka Oubre), but this game he shows he has some legit potential, like you said, he just couldn't execute some plays due to lack of skill. I was also impressed by his leadership and energy. If we just look at this game it is difficult to understand how some scouts listed lack of motor as one of his weaknesses, the dude was fully engaged and was really having fun out there. The way Moody go for offensive rebounds is impressive (like you said, similar to Looney), he was probably the best rebounder out there. When he is open, that 3pt stroke is pure, and he will be left open a lot for sure with Klay and Steph's gravity

Kevin Chan

thanks...I will dissect more plays of him playing and defending 5s through out SL

Athletic Alchemy

Alc, great comment about the excitement given lottery picks in SL. So thanks for doing these

Jim

I watched some videos on moody, he crashes the boards very well

santiago Cintron

man these rookies are exciting! will be so interesting to see the balancing act of winning now & developing youth

Wilson Wang

Loved wiseman and the other younglings supporting and cheering on the sideline

Ken Bradford

Great vid! Could you do a deep dive on Kuminga’s work as smallball center this game? That stretch in the third quarter was fueled mostly by him playing the 5 and the work he did off-ball to scrap with the Heat centers was awesome.

quantumferret

Not gone front. I’m lowkey more excited to see poole/wiseman/moody/kuminga lineup than Steph/klay/dray

richard phan

wait, let me get my popcorn before i hit play. ;)

Joshua Davis

I appreciate the post!
