I honestly don't think Steph has the juice to be the #1 option on a championship team anymore. He can still take over games, but if he's still the best player on the team next season I don't like our chances of bringing home #8.

A tough watch. Reading tea leaves from post-game interviews makes it seem like guys know there's an overhaul coming. When you have people under contract questioning whether they'll be back or not, it makes for a spicy off season

As much as Curry was cooked, in the starting lineup Curry had like 22 of the 46 points. we should just let klay go man. they can still be friends outside of basketball. Klay gets his money and maybe the Warriors can reconstruct one last run at this. Also Curry needed his annual injury break to replenish his legs especially as an aging 6"3 point guard

The real mistake was FO giving Jordan Poole a giant ass ridiculous contract almost as an "apology" for the punch, instead of something more measured until he proved himself more outside of just one chip year. Then when it all went to his head we wouldn't have been stuck with a 120 contract we had to dump in any way possible. Oh, and some actual accountability for Draymond would have been nice too.

it was a bad omen when they couldn't beat the pelicans at home with ingram out. CJ cooked. That was pretty much a must-win game to avoid this one-and-done situation and they couldn't do it. Once we lost that I figured there was no way we were surviving the play in

I was delusional and still believed we can make a run. Your dissection of the game finally opened my eyes and I’m with you, we need drastic changes particularly in the way we played the game. It hard to see the end of a great dynasty. All in all you are a great communicator and a teacher. But what makes the difference is not only your knowledge of the game but the politics, psychology and sociology of a team and the sport with emphasis in the basketball game.

Kuminga has a path forward to becoming a #1 option if Kerr actually developed him properly. Kuminga can command a double team in the post especially against smaller defenders. He's also demonstrated improvement in his playmaking. Remember when LeBron worked with Hakeem on his post moves and footwork? I think the Warriors should bring him in as well to work with JK.

The past 2 seasons have been complicated. Lots of missed playing time and the collective effect of that and weird decisions by FO and coaching staff.
Anyone heaping praise on LeBron's 20 year career doesn't realize his greatest achievement in life is being the luckiest athlete ever. He never had to deal with bad injuries.
CP3 - We needed defenders. I didn't like this move. In spite of his accolades, there's a reason he never won a ring. I don’t believe in curses but I believe in the CP3 curse lol

Is it possible that Steph is just not a number 1 option anymore? He's gonna be 37 next year. I think the team needs a 1a and 1b with Steph and another player or just reinvent themselves like the Spurs did at the end of their dynasty.
Could Kuminga take the number 1 option role next year? Who knows.
One things for certain drastic changes need to be had for next season. Roster, Coaching, Philosophy, we need to see massive changes.

Yo Alch, thanks for the unbelievable coverage this season, and no doubt you added to your personal highlight tape if nothing else! (We need that new joke reel for the season!)
I think our frustrations with this team have as much to do with our own expectations as anything else. Zoom out and look at the big picture and you see a dynasty in its twilight years, treading water after its storybook ending in 2022. The Celtics series WAS that ultimate cherry-on-top moment. I think the problem is we're all waiting for it to happen again, and the reality is that it won't. The league has moved on. It's like Kobe in his final years...out of competition, but just enjoy seeing him while you can. Pretty soon the credits will roll for this core 3, too.
Here's what I'd like to say about Steph. These days most of the stars bounce around from one team to the next, always leaving the scene just as it starts to get ugly. Lebron, KD, Kyrie, Harden—you know the list. Never do they stay in one place long enough to have to face the consequences of their own failures.
The reward of loyalty is being accountable for your shortcomings, and that's where we're seeing Steph in his career now. He's on that short list with Duncan, Kobe, Dirk, etc. It's not always pretty, but in the age of fickle stars, it's damn sure admirable to see a guy rep for his franchise and go out on his sword. If we adjust our expectations to the existential moment this team is in, I think we'll enjoy it a lot more. Looking forward to the offseason, Alch, cheers!

To be fair… i dont know many teams or any who blows up a core after they just win a championship. I think we sort of take for granted that we just won in 2022. Most sane people will run that back.
We lost in the 2nd round last year… disappointing but we didnt get smoked. THIS is the season where realistically… a clear change is needed.

This is prolly closer to reality. As much as I would love these drastic changes the new rules with CBA are going to make that next to impossible. They want to cut down the salary big time. Klay will take the 18 mil that’s like 25 off the books then let CP3 walk let Loonie walk. That’s like another 42 or more off. Then they have the MLE and vet mins to work with and can stay under the tax. Hopefully get a true seven footer but most likely be pretty much the same for the next couple of years. Gonna have to enter some dark days and tank for a couple of years and rebuild through the draft. Long road ahead with the rest of the west young and full of athletic wings and talented shooters.

I fully think that Kuminga can eventually be a number 2 on a title contender with the right pieces… the issue is that steph is no longer a 1.. steph is my favorite player ever and glad to see his entire career but he’s old with a long injury history. THE ONLY WAY I could see us being a top 4 title favorite while steph is still playing is that we take the hype of kuminga and podz unfortunately and draft capital and try to get one of those guys like embiid or Giannis. Klay and dray has diminished their value. Wiggins probably as well. I probably wouldn’t be saying this if we kept our young talent like Wise and Poole. Have y’all kept up with them? They’re starting to figure it out at the end of the season.

I suspect you're just taking me way too literally, I'm just saying he was mentally checked out because he knew this team wasn't getting another chip. Steph was even quoted earlier in the season as saying this team is "average". Did you really expect him to bust his ass at 36 and chipped up for an "average" team in some hopeless quest to get another chip? It was never going to happen.

Man I knew the game was over in the first 5 minutes. I felt like Curry didn’t wanna play.
If putting TJD at the 4 was Dray’s in game adjustment, I don’t understand why TJD was punished. Dubs could’ve really used him down there protecting the paint. Another thing is Dray playing drop coverage was atrocious!! He plays the 5 to be switchable and provide help. Why is he playing drop like he’s an immobile ass center?!

He’s needed Draymond to unlock everything, but this version of Klay he hasn’t needed. And now, Dray’s body is breaking down so he can’t unlock Steph’s offense or dominate w/his defense anymore. The past is over. Problem is, these guys can’t f-ing see it.

NBA contracts are guaranteed, no restructuring allowed.
I only see three options to try to get better, trade Wiggins, Kuminga or Steph.
The problem with trading Wiggins is other teams don't value him enough.
Trading Steph for a rebuild is the way I'd like to go but he's got a massive contract. I just don't think that's feasible.
Kuminga is probably your best bet but if they were going to trade him they should have done when he was on a heater in the middle of the season but in my opinion everyone overreacted to his play. I'm probably in the minority on that, so I get it.
Other then getting super lucky with their 2nd round pick it kind of feels like they're stuck.

Your coverage made this cursed season bearable. Thanks, Alc! Great as always.
As an old hooper, I can relate to that high-school kids anecdote. They're so fast and bouncy! We're old and gimpy and tired. It's tempting to stop trying, and that's exactly what happened last night.
I'm pretty skeptical Dunleavy has the stones to do what must be done. His first move as GM was to double down on Kerr-ball, making the team significantly older, smaller, and slower with COPD-3.
Remember Bob Meyers was talking out of the side of his mouth last trade deadline and said something like "even if we could get a big, there's no guarantee he would play." Think about that: the GM can't put together a workable roster because the coach won't cooperate. (Probably also why they didn't go after Gafford or Washington this year.)
We can't rebuild with Kerr. And they just handed him a big contract. That implies Lacob is all in on the big 4 retirement tour. They'll probably wind up selling the young guys to bring in some more one-legged "high BBIQ" has-beens.

Here's the thing- Joe Lacob is only truly incentivized to blow it up, if the money stops rolling in. It may not be about winning (anymore) so much as cash-flow! And they no doubt have stats on keeping the Core 3 together and what that equals in ticket & merch sales. 2 years of riding that income might be much more enticing than trading them away and not getting enough quality players back in return to be a contender. But....I DO REALLY HOPE I AM WRONG.

Watching this again, and the bad body language was there right from the beginning. I don't get it. This is not who Steph has been his whole career and I don't know why a game vs SACRAMENTO would have him mentally checked out. Not giving his best.
I agree that it's best that they lose in spectacular fashion to force change, but the reporting coming from this team in the past 12 hours has been entirely RUN IT BACK. Tim K (Althetic) went on and on during their Plus Minus podcast about how the worst thing this org could do, is make Curry unhappy. And keeping these players together is what Curry wants. The team has to "do right" by Klay and if Klay walks, fine, but they have to try to keep him for Curry's sake...
The team already extended Kerr by overpaying him. Draymond is locked up. They made zero trades. They have zero picks this summer. And they have no imagination or clue how to "fix things" when they refuse to NOT CHANGE.
TK pretty much setting us up for another season of this core. This system. Non-contention. Because, apparently, anything else would be far far worse.

Bummer they lost, but an early playoff exit was expected. As for this offseason, I expect a trade will happen and that Klay will be back on a 2 year deal to match with the 2 years remaining on Steph's contract, Draymond's 2 years (+PO) remaining, and Kerr's new 2 year extension. As for the draft, they have #52 from the CoJo trade. Idk if they could get someone that could help next season, though one name in that range that's
intriguing (if you like guards) is Cam Spencer from UConn, brother of Pat Spencer.

Watching Steph the last couple of games he hasn't had any juice, lowkey he was just all the way done with this season. MDJ/Kerr/Steph need to sit down and have a frank discussion about how far they can go with the current coaching scheme, roster construction, and philosophy. It's clear other teams have caught up to small ball + the 3pt shot, switch everything defense, etc. New coaches seem better than us at handling it too.
Steph needs a #2 or at least someone that can carry the scoring load night to night. Maybe it's Kuminga, maybe it's Moody, but I think we should package guys and picks for a bonafide #2 option if we truly want to contend. If they just want to rest on their laurels and ride off into the sunset with .500 records for the next two years, they should leak that out so we don't get our hopes up.

if we don’t get some new coaches n the coaching philosophy don’t change, it don’t matter who we get. These 3 guard lineups, overhelping, overpassing, Draymond playing most of his minutes at the 5, if we don’t update the software, it just doesn’t matter who we get. Hell of a season Alch, and u right. It takes going out this early for there to be a realization that this just isn’t good enough.

The modern miracle-working trio of the best basketball league on earth is finally no longer capable of miracles. Everyone could see it but them (and their coach). So yeah, last night hurt. Less because of the loss but more because we could see all 3 of them processing it—finally seeing the limit of their winning formula—in real time, with real stakes.
The upside? There's a bunch of little miracles happening with this team, outside of the Core 3. Shout out to the young guys, we got a bright future.

I’ve been increasingly more surprised at how DUMB the Warriors organization has become. Front office sees we are old small and slow, so they go get Chris Paul. Kerr sees the young guys are thriving and the old guys are cooked, and continually snatches the youth for the vets. Steph sees the help defense sitting on his hook pass, tosses it for a turnover anyway. Draymond knowing hes on a short leash, gets suspended anyway. Just on and on. Warriors are quickly becoming one of the dumbest organizations in the league

Looking back in hindsight, I think we would've been better off keeping Mike Brown than Steve Kerr after that 2022 championship. Anyways, thanks for all you've done this season Alch. If I am the front office, I am having the honest talk with Steph. He's making 52 and 59 million over the next two seasons. If Steph want's Joe to give him a championship roster, there's no way in hell that's possible with Steph taking that big of a salary cap hit at his age. What about a contract restructure? Resign for a new deal, 4 years/$120m and lower that cap hit for the next two seasons while also adding an additional 2 years so that Steph plays until he's 40. Obviously Steph has to agree to it but I do not see any other way for this team getting back to a top 4 seed without something like this happening. Even if we trade away all our young guys for a legit 2nd option, it was our depth that kept us afloat this season. Our chances of being bad remains the same if we trade for the #2 option because it will kill our depth. All it will take is one injury and our season is done. But then again, would it be so bad to tank next season for the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes?

Kinda glad the season ended last night. I agree with you on the vets, they didn't want it either in this game. A bit relieving to not have to watch this team again this szn.
Overall, this season was just the same as last and 4 out of the last 5. Just a very mediocre team with very poor roster construction being carried by Steph. I think we all had some optimism at the start like any fan would, but signs showed early on it was the same team. Maybe they win 4-5 more games if Dray isn't suspended as much, and Wiggs shows more pride early on, but that's still not a contender. I do wish we had seen some more fight from Steph at certain points this year, like demanding the ball, taking control, being more aware on D, and just brining more energy (same can be said for all the vets) but ultimately he doesn't share much of the blame pie imo. You just don't put such a bad team around an aging star like this.
Big changes to come I hope, whether it's leaning back into Steph's window, or the young guys. I think most of us don't want to watch yet another szn of mediocrity with no direction.
Thanks for the great breakdowns all year fam, and looking forward to more in the playoffs!

To give reasoning for curry:
Thumb
Just had a baby
Wife just left the hospital the same day.
Idk if there was complications with the birth but I personally know as a father and husband, I would be mentally checked out at work as well.

only real complaint was i felt like TDJ should've played more. Obvious, but i had a feeling if he didn't make an impact early, the staff would be more inclined to pull him knowing looney has had success in this series.
team needs a reset, but idk if they would do it with steph still being productive to a degree. i can see them just making moves to get the salary down and out of the tax, and just trying to make a competitive team, not one that can win a championship but at least a 6-7 seed team until the vets are all gone.

I've been saying it all year. The team was going NOWHERE with Steve Kerr at the helm. Kerr was never able to put winning over egos. It was and always will be egos over winning.
"It would hurt Klays feelings to bench him in a situation like that!!!!" So the fuck what??? Moody clearly needed to play more and Klay was stinking it up. With the season on the line in a do or die scenario, why are you STILL playing ego ball?
I also kept telling yall to stop believing in this team this season to save yourself the pain. I did and Im glad that I feel nothing except for a tad bit of frustration because I could have predicted this months ago.
Unprepared. Unmotivated. Undeserving.
Its a damn shame in ended like that. Maybe this is the last time the core 3 play together. But honestly, good. All the better. They arent good together anymore.
Keeping Steph is the only priority when it comes to those three.
I would say "Good season bois, see you next year". But it wasnt a good season. In fact it was worse than last season and I thought last season was about as bad as it couldve gotten in psychological terms.
This was just sad.

Thanks for another season of breakdowns Alch. Glad to hear you’re branching out a bit to cover the Olympics and the women’s game. I look forward to all that as well. Your coverage is measurably better than what the corporate networks and the NBA as a whole provide so again, thank you very much for your work

4 wins in 10 years is not bad! Warriors fans almost forgot how hard it is to be relevant and win. Teams such as Celtics, Nuggets, Thunder, and Wolves took years to contend so the Warriors were blessed to win as much as they did. Regardless, the playoff matchups with the actual good teams will be fun. Looking forward to the remaining breakdowns Alch!

Sad for Klay. Hats off to Keon Ellis, bro was hoopin. I love those NBA moments for young guys. I think they said he was undrafted outta bama.

How is this anything but a fireable offense? Not ready play, game plan broke down immediately, and the coaches were the first to panic. Rotations were not ready, the offense was not ready, the defense was as always from 3, not ready. Then there goes Steve Kerr, going right back to his old ways when things got tough, Moody 4 minutes at the half with 7 points while Klay was 0-5, and TJD yanked after not being able to be effective guarding out on the perimeter. What sort of coach throws his young rookie into new situations in the biggest game of his life? Your job is to make your players lives easier, a complete spit in the face to pull such stunts. It was the regular season kings game all over again, “watching Klay struggle was tough to watch,” yet he played 32 minutes while Moody got 14 with 16 points after getting nothing but DNPs all season he was STILL more ready than anyone else, the funny part is THATS TWO DAMN YEARS IN A ROW AND HE STILL DON’T CRACK THE ROTATION. Infuriating

That was a weird game. The offense felt so disjointed and stagnant. I feel like trayce should’ve definitely been out there more (as usual). The guards sinking down to no mans land makes me wanna pull my hair out yo. I hope this offseason they look around for a Ron Adams or Mike brown type of dude because this ain’t it

I'm afraid of building around Steph. He's no longer the Steph of old times.

Thanks for the breakdown and great season of content Al. I really appreciate all this channel has to offer, including a great community of folks.
6 TOs for Curry and 3 for Wigs and 3 for Draymond. To me, that's what stands out.
Wigs can barely make layups and free thows. It kills me every single missed opportunity by Wiggins. He should be way better than Kuminga and he isn't.
So, knowing what we know, Kerr doubled down on letting Curry be the primary ball handler and not CP3 this game. We knew the doubles were coming and they came. Whatever happened to Draymond facilitating? How much iso-ball can one fan endure in one night?
Separately, Kerr insisted on starting a rookie center who produced 1 rebound. Logical? No.
The stubbornness, complacency and lack of foresight really eats at me these past two seasons. Someone needs to extract Kerr's head from his ass already. Get a 6'10"+ center already. Jeez.

As bad as this season looked... a good silver lining for me is that I believe if Kerr went towards TJD and Kuminga earlier... and if Draymond didn't start acting like a fool... we most likely make the playoffs

Its clear. Steph needs his AD. This year for Steph reminded me a lot of Bron in 2019. Its hard for a GOAT to get up for games knowing that a championship is 100% off the table. Thats the reality. They need to see if they can pull off a (Ingram and ZO and etc for AD) type deal. Who is that player? Idk. But we cant do this again.
Steph is the only superstar in the NBA without a true second option. Let that sink in. And because of that... Klay became out of pocket at times.. expecting too much from docile Wiggins.. relying too much on 1st year guys and CP3.
Steph made it clear in the post game conference that he still wants to win. So that means any and everyone should be on the table to bring in a legit 1st or 2nd option player.

Was at the game it was hell on earth 🙈😭. One thing I saw while being there was Wiggins is just bad man. I’m sure we can all see it but he has got to go . He is soft and his shot is really flat. This is my list of Players that should go- Wiggins number fucking 1- 2 . Looney is too slow 3. GP2 never healthy. 4 Klay unless they get a favorable contract - seems like he can’t handle big moments anymore which is strange thing to say . CP3- no real need for him.5 Moody while decent is he really good enough 6. Steve Kerr - can’t make real time adjustments. Furthermore Let it burn CRIMSON SKY 🇯🇵 🔥
