All the youngins need more minutes. Kerr needs to make it happen. Father time (injury) eventually is going to take minutes away the old men this season anyway. Might as well give JK, Moody, TJD and Podz more runway now, while Klay and Wiggs are struggling.

Kerr has never really done Moody any favors. He's finally starting to do Kuminga favors, with mixed results, but I don't think it's enough. Moody said recently how important rhythm is and attributed his improvements in the early season to that. Rhythm is another way of saying: consistent playing time. It's a lot harder, especially for a young player, to make an impact when they are the last off the bench, and sit 20 minutes of game time in between stints. It's even harder when veteran players are reluctant to give you the ball and let you make a play/mistakes. I see a lot of talk about giving TJD and podz more minutes, and for good reason. But- with a 10 man rotation, I would rather just see more minutes going to Kuminga and Moody and fewer to the vets. Let them get into a rhythm, let them make plays and mistakes. Kuminga/Moody bring energy because they are hungry to prove themselves, also they have length and Kuminga's athleticism. Playing 12 deep will make it even harder for others to get in a rhythm.

@ejikeme and thats part of my point. The biggest reason why Wiggs is preferred because he theoretically is a better shooter. But if he keeps shooting airballs and building houses.. there is literally no reason to have him playing more minutes than Kuminga. At least Kuminga is shooting with confidence. Ive been very impressed with Kuminga.. He isnt getting many open looks... he is constantly attacking closeouts that arent very far from him.

In Klay's prime an open Klay 3, was a made Klay 3. Now, not so much. That's what hurts. Forget him trying to create his own shot, If he could just hit the open stuff it would make a big difference. He used to punish teams for leaving him open.

I think it’s a pretty different situation. JK has been disappointing relative to expectations, but he has been a plus player who provides valuable offense in the second unit. That second unit has been an unmitigated success, and JK has been a big part of that. It would be great if JK’s shooting allowed him to provide spacing with the starters, but that’s Wiggins’ job. If Wiggs gets back to normal (not asking for Championship form), the whole situation changes. JK’s shot is a luxury, but Wiggs is a real necessity.

Kuminga doesn't understand angles yet. He is always out of position cause he doesn't know where he should be. I guess the easiest way to explain it is that he's the exact opposite of looney. Looney just knows where to be right? Jk doesn't.

I'm probably a bit too late to the conversation, but here are my thoughts... if the decline is inevitable, id rather they fail with these young guys and giving them a chance, rather than fail with the old guys. Alc said it himself - these young teams start so motivated. We're wasting that energy and motivation away by not playing these guys. I just think that there's a better chance that the rookies and JK/Mood are more likely to contribute competitiveness rather than klay/wiggs all of a sudden waking up and filling that 2nd option that they desperately need. And setting that aside, the refereeing needs to be addressed. Take the fines and call that shit out. There absolutely no way that foul on gobert should've held up to a challenge, and i honestly believe that because it was on Dray, they kept it. That is pure corruption.

Since KD left, the salaries haven’t matched production. Klay’s injuries and Dray’s offensive decline have created a team with top heavy salaries but w/o the top heavy production. FO has had no choice but to rely on rookies, bargain bins and rehab projects. That worked fantastically in 2022 with Wiggins, Poole, Looney, OPJ and GP2 each dramatically outperforming salaries and reputations. But it’s not a repeatable path to success. As you correctly say, the top guys need to play well or nothing else really matters.

Hit the nail on the head Alch, this isn’t last year where our bench was depleted. We have answers on the roster. Kind of what makes me optimistic and also frustrated that we haven’t made the adjustments yet. Seems like we have the puzzle pieces but haven’t put them together yet.
For example:
• Split up Looney and Draymond, there’s too much athleticism in the west
• Play Saric at the 4 with Draymond or looney at the 5. Asking too much of Saric with his physical limitations to be the only back line of defense
• Run TJD with CP3. CP needs a lob threat, we’ve known this his entire career
• If Klay doesn’t have it on a given night spread some of his mins amongst Moody and Podz. Those 2 have shown the ability to shoot and create some offense which we desperately need
These seem like playoff time adjustments but we don’t have the comfort of coasting through the regular season anymore. Kerr mentioned beginning of year that whoever is playing well will play, so stick to your words
Luke Zhang
2023-11-13 22:04:20 +0000 UTC
Yes that's why I think they might want to think about starting Saric with Draymond. Then you could start Kuminga instead of Wigs and you'd only have two non shooters. the bench would then be: CP3, Wigs, Moody, Saric, GP2. I think it's worth a try. the starting lineup just needs more space, everything is clogged up.

Klay should just focus on being a catch and shoot guy right now. Cut out all the dribbling and chucking. If he misses, that’s fine. I know he wants to get his offense going, but all of this dribbling around is not doing anything good for the team’s offense and his defense has suffered from it because the guy is so in his head as he heads back up the court.

It's like I said earlier in the season. We played well against like-sized teams last season and struggled against more athletic larger teams - and the trend is continuing.
The coaching staff and presumably the front office are content with the current front-court rotation. The front office would argue, we sold PBJ to get you a ready now big off the bench you don't use.
I'm as high as any on the Šarić signing and like his fit so far. However, I assumed he would be used more as a 4 and share the role of 4/5 while exploiting certain matchups with him as the sole big. Instead, he's just the backup big off the bench and TJ-D is a break in case of emergency afterthought.
If a trade is made, it would be ideal that it includes a 4 or 5 that allows Looney to come off the bench to have a real solid backup big, while saving more of Kevon's minutes for the 4th.
The answer now is to just start TJ-D until roster changes are made. We start nearly every game poorly anyway, might as well do it with energy.

What a microcosm of the warriors systemic ignorance mixed with their brilliance in that last minute of play. These young kids they drafted are SO aware that they may not get a lot of playing time, but they're also SO aware that they're not supposed to acquiesce to the energy of the core group. They almost singlehandedly won the game. The "main" warriors sucked last night, but that means nothing to the young guys anymore. Only thing left to decide is how much time they're gonna get to prove it. It's on you, Kerr.

the team just feels like it's treading water right now and like there's not much anyone could really change that would make a big impact.
people want to trade wiggs and klay, but klay is an expiring contract so not much value there and with how both of them are playing it's hard to see real return value that helps now.
i like the rookies but they're also essentially role players and if the team isn't fully firing then they sort of seem obsolete, yes they can help but in short bursts it doesn't feel fair to expect a lot from them.

I love Loon.. but i cant help but think how much better our offense would be if Loon was at least a 34-35% shooter from 3. I think that Dray/Loon frontcourt starts us off too clunky against these bigger teams. For teams like the Cavs.. Timbs... Lakers.. We might need to start Saric and Dray just for the spacing. he's been proving it. Wiggins is barely playing in the 4th anymore. CP3 didn't close last night. Klay has really only had two bad games. Saric played a ton last night for Looney because Saric was balling.

Does Warriors have the worse home whistle in the league? Sure feels like it!! I didn’t even watch the 4th.. I was too busy on trade machine seeing good trade options for klay… even if klays offense comes back which feels unlikely.. he’s honestly the worst all around defender on the team right now…

I had a hot take that Kuminga would have Wiggins starting role by the end of the season and it looks like it could happen a lot earlier than that. Wiggs has just been god awful there’s no other way around it. Getting beat at the POA, being content with taking 5 shots a game, there’s absolutely no way Kuminga could be worse than him right now. And Klay is starting to give me last years Jordan Poole vibes. If his shot isn’t falling he’s a net negative. His man defense is subpar, his team defense is even worse. Doesn’t rebound and turns the ball over/takes bad shots. I’m all for making the tough decision to bench those to if this kind of play keeps up

But its def time for Moody... Kuminga... TJD... Bpod to play significant minutes. Thats just the reality. Some games we dont need heavy CP3 Klay and Wiggs minutes. This is like the 2nd or 3rd game where the 2nd and 3rd unit looked better than the starting unit... Kerr cant keep ignoring that. I believe he'll eventually make the adjustments

Well we'll see because it doesn't seem like mike dunleavy is anything like Bob. And I agree right now their value isn't high but you can't sit on your ass while steph is playing at an mvp level and just hope and pray that these guys turn it around to the point where we look like contenders. If you read in between the lines of stephs postgame presser he is calling out kerr. He mentioned how teams have been guarded them like this for years and they can't keep taking the same approach and expecting different results. His patience is running thin and we are 11 games in. Just saying

Plus it's still very early man. That starting lineup has been QUALITY for two years now. the roster is constructed around that starting lineup being good, hence why they upgraded the bench.

The reason the defense was so good was because of Mike Brown?? Really? How was Mike Brown's defense in Sacramento last year? lol. Bruhhhhhhhhhhhh

Kerr most def gota put those youngins in. Just like any vet coach.. they want to give the proven guys more chances than they actually need.. its stubborn loyalty. I 100% understand it because those vets are the guys that helped make Kerr one of the GOAT coaches. Ik its hard for us fans to actually see the humanity in it... But if you were actually the coach who been in the trenches with these boys since 2014.. none of us would be that cold.

This is not a good reason to keep him because the year we won we were 17th in offensive and rating and second in defense. The reason why we were so good defensively was because we had mike brown. Our offense was still rely on steph to lead the way and bail us out. Last season and so far this season our defense has not been anywhere near that level and our offense is the same. Its super stale and teams know exactly what we're trying to do. We can't keep running the same motion offense where steph has to literally run miles every game for us to get a decent look when hes 35 years old. Theres no reason to compromise his body at this age. Kerr is way too stubborn to change any of that though.

Like, you can't just TRADE guys who this roster is built around and fire a Coach who built your dynasty and who Steph loves. The fact is, the roster is built around guys like Klay and Wiggins and Kuminga playing better...but they all suck right now. There isn't much you can do... you need good wings to compete in the NBA.

The way this is heading, Steph is about to get a back injury carrying this garbage fire, and then the season is a wrap.

I’m so sick of Klay. I know the guy is a franchise legend, but he’s naturally not a smart basketball player. He relied on his talent for his entire career, but his stubbornness in acknowledging that he’s not the same player post injury is so frustrating and sad to watch.
Also, the fact that he wanted a super max contract entering the season really rubbed me the wrong way. Guy needs to read the room. Either take a massive pay cut, or go jack up shots with Jordan Poole in DC.

Kuminga 2/11 (and horrible defense), Moody 1/5 (horrible defense), Wiggins 3/7 (ok defense), Klay 5/16....you can't win in the NBA with your wings playing like this. The recipe for chips with Steph is to put good productive, 2 way wings around him. these guys are all underperforming and there is nothing Kerr can do about it, there is no magic trick to get out of this. The roster (and salary allocation) is built around these guys playing better.

he's always played rookies. He played Jordan Bell in huge playoff games as a rookie. He played McCaw in huge playoff games. He played Moody and started Kuminga in huge playoff games. This is a false narrative.

these last few L's are on the coaching staff for not putting out better rotations. Every year Kerr and his staff have to see that their approach doesnt work even when its obvious that playing small against teams that are bigger and more athletic isnt working. If we lean into TJD, Podz, Moody and Kuminga it will immediately and perhaps light a fire in wiggins and klay which will be better long term. These rotations are just atrocious and its so obvious. You'd think you would watch the film on Cleveland and be like, oh maybe we should play our true lob threat center, to keep the defense honest and get better looks via drive and kick. instead Kerr and his team watches the tape and thinks, oh we just didnt shoot that well...run it back. That's so crazy to me.

Wiggs is averaging like 3 rebounds a game and is shooting 41/15/50. I would rather try and get a reliable second option who we know can score than bank on wiggins getting it together. As for Klay you're right probably no team wants him right now.

2023-11-13 19:56:23 +0000 UTC
Podz is a 40%+ three point shooter. Let him cook. Put him in with Steph and spread the floor, he can be a Jordan Poole replacement if he's willing to shoot, and as for defense, he'd be 1000% better than Poole was. Kuminga, GP2, and Moody have to step in for Klay and Wiggins. This is now very much a ball in Kerr's court and he has to be willing to be the bad guy with his lineups.

2023-11-13 19:55:25 +0000 UTC
If you look at Kerr's track record in the past, he will do anything to avoid playing rookies for whatever reason. I have little faith that's changing now.

Cuz wiggs still contributes in other ways and it’s not like he’s physically washed up. He can still get it together
And klay - honestly what team is willing to give up meaningful assets for him

I ain't watch the breakdown yet but I need someone to give me a legitimate reason why Kerr shouldn't be fired and klay and wiggins shouldn't be traded. We can't keep wasting years of stephs greatness because of them.
