Warriors vs Thunder | GM-13 |

Comments

He also had Mike Brown next to him.

deb m.

He WAS robbed, we all know it. I just think he could use some help working through it. I'm only saying what I'm saying because I don't think it would be easy to get over that feeling without help, for anyone.

Neal X

Nothing speaks to that more than game 4 2015. Kuminga can be the guy to unlock that but how him and Wiggins are shooting the ball, really messed with the potential of the look. I was always hoping we could throw out Wiggins and kuminga together because not a lot of teams have 2, 6’7”, nuclear athletes

Ford Carlson

Thanks Alch, JP was always fools gold to me. He built at least three quarters of his rep lighting up the G league and in garbage time in a suck year for the dubs. The final proof is in the way he is getting exposed on the Wizards this year, he is already a meme-fest for ego tripping buffoonery less than 15 games in. We can hope for the rise of Kuminga, Moody, Podz and TJD to rise like a new Golden core, if Kerr will even allow it. Otherwise we really might have to blow it up to save Steph's twilight chances at further greatness.

Michael E

The Iguodala of dubs fandom in a sea of Jordan Poole’s 🤣

Luke Zhang

Maybe? History says he’ll shoot out of his slump and he brings champ exp.

Raze

Yeah that’s a good point.. I don’t understand what they are trying do with switching rn

Athletic Alchemy

Now do you think the pacers look at Klay right now as a “superstar vet” 😂

Athletic Alchemy

He’s definitely off balance physically.. I think mentally he is still scorned, he feels robbed

Athletic Alchemy

It’s almost like he decides rotations pre game and can’t change it during.. or refuses

Athletic Alchemy

Yup lowkey Andre was just as much the key and unlocker of it as Draymond

Athletic Alchemy

Well said, I think this was essentially a week of rest for Steph. They had already relied on him too much 10 games in. It was supposed to be Wigs and JP starting to do more of the regular season lifting rn. Kuminga seems built to do it, but not in our style.

Athletic Alchemy

Agreed, trying my hardest to not overreact but it seems like writing is on the wall. Looks like Wiggins doesn’t have that want now that he proved he could win and be impactful (for 1 year lol).

Ford Carlson

Thanks! I actually am working with my daughter this weekend ( Seasons starts Monday) but after watching a scrimmage last week and seeing where she is catching the ball in their sets. I dont love it, she does a lot of Iverson cuts across 2 screens and then kind of opens up back peddling to the ball. Im going to have her turn into the ball when cutting to the right side of the floor and hop to it, cutting to the left side she can use her step back foot work on the catch. But yeah I love the nuances of foot work and rhythm getting to a ideal mechanics for said player.

Athletic Alchemy

The "iron man" thing has turned into a hindrance almost lol

Athletic Alchemy

probably true.. but odds are he get back to looking like himself before WIgs

Athletic Alchemy

Klay is absolutely not fine. Bruh, he got into a brawl 60 seconds into the game with the T-Wolves... he is beyond frustrated with himself and he's taking it out on others. Obvious as it gets.

Neal X

Not sure they are asking.. he knows how much more money that means moving forward, its the swing skill

Athletic Alchemy

We still have to remember that it IS early in the season. Kerr has always given people a chance to see what they can do, and he experiments with lineups. I don't really know why Corey Joseph was even picked up, but now that he's here, he should at least be played a little to see how it goes. That said, I'm running out of patience with not playing Moody and TJD more -- they've performed whenever they've been out there so it makes no sense to me.

Neal X

I dont think he is off limits, but it would have to be part of a real haul back. I dont think they are trading him for say Big Val or Jokab

Athletic Alchemy

That might be the real question.. Is steph willing to go Bron and green light core moves?

Athletic Alchemy

He is in a contract year as well!

Athletic Alchemy

lol

Athletic Alchemy

I could see a PJ Tucker role hitting 5-6 corner 3s a game..imagine him in Phil

Athletic Alchemy

Nah. Klay is fine. He’s chilling on the boat. Wiggs is the one who is having some mental issues. Whatever happened last year - and we may never know (could be some Puff Diddy shit) - is clearly hanging over him. He may never recover

Gary

Young teams looking very feisty this year. You need a wise leader. Halliburton. SGA. Hell even Fox in sac. Never saw it for Memphis…

Gary

There are some interesting generational shifts happening in the NBA this season, the rise of very young teams like the Pacers and Magic in the east, Wolves, Thunder, Kings, even the Rockets in the West. It may not last through the season but one can feel the shifting of power. The Dubs took the league by storm when Kerr took over MJ's group and instilled the wing dominant switching and the heavy dose of three ball, now its the foundational playbook all over the league, and we haven't found the recipe for rejuvenating the lineup the way we did in the late "teens" . Alch as usual you are absolutely right about this season being a test of how well Kerr can adapt, or is he ultimately too set in his ways? The other issue is that Father time may not be able to diminish 30's skillset, but the body can only muster so much superheroism before it needs sufficient recovery time on the injury list. We saw it last season and there's a good chance we'll see even more this year if we cant make the team transition. Klay definitely is looking bit by Father time and it can be painful to watch his "old guy at the gym" attitude when things go south. But Wiggs? I have always been frustrated by how soft he is mentally. You can see his team mates constantly trying to pump him up, but without fail he shrinks under the spotlight. He'll get in shape and be an ok third or forth option but he will always lack the killer instinct we will need to win the big games with him on the floor. It will be another interesting ride this year. Ride or die regardless.

Michael E

Myles is soft

OhSomeABeanLoadin

Trade deadline can turn it around. I believe big moves need to be made in order to not make this season a waste.

OhSomeABeanLoadin

The 2 things I can’t stop thinking about are: the misconception of the small ball lineups we had and it’s time to talk about how important Mike brown was to this team. Our small ball consisted of 6’7 guys that could defend. We had length even if we were playing small than the norm, not a bunch of sub 6’2 guards. I don’t want to completely blame Kerr because the reality is this the core is old, the egos are still there as if they’re all in their prime, and kerr is in a tough spot to make change happen… But then again this guy is still out here giving out minutes to Corey Joseph over kuminga and moody. You can see why Bob Myers left, he knew this ship was sinking

Ford Carlson

The sad thing is if they do use those contracts to make a change it's gonna end up being Wiggins instead of Klay or CP3. Wiggins is the only one of the three who's still in his prime and we can expect will get back into form, but the other two are on expiring contracts and this team will want to shed salary after this year. Can't do that if they trade Klay for somebody with 3 years left.

Tom L

How long has it been since Kerr has made an innovative change? Or just a change in general? I'm tired of Kerr's dumb roles that absolutely must be filled on the court, and the way he pigeonholes players into those roles. WTF box has Kerr stuck Moody in, anyhow?

Thomas Ogas

Tim Legler observed that Klay is backpedaling after every shot and looks like someone who is trying WAY too hard. I feel that Klay is beating himself up to the point of mental breakdown honestly, it could be a dangerous situation behind the scenes. I hope the Warriors staff can recognize the danger and encourage him to see a sports psychologist. There's no stigma, we all need help with getting back to a positive mental attitude sometimes. He putting way too much pressure on himself.

Neal X

Preach on, brother

Thomas Ogas

Trade works after Dec 15

Raze

Just for fun cuz it's what we do when we struggle: Klay, JK, and Trayce for Bruce Brown, Myles Turner, and Bennedict Mathurin Young Indy gets a superstar vet in Klay, a really strong prospect in JK, and a promising prospect in Trayce. We get a superstar role player 3 and D player in Brown, our stretch big we've always wanted in Turner, and a bouncy athlete in Mathurin to keep some youth in our rotation. It will never happen and I probably would be big mad if it did lol

Raze

😂🫣

Cristian Vela

I realize it's only 14 games in but screw it, I say if we going to get blown out anyway let's go all in and play Kuminga, Moody, Pod and TJD 35 minutes a night and let Klay and Wigs come off the bench and play 15 minutes

KuraiT

It's time the organization from the top down realizes the dynasty is over and stop trying to delay the inevitable, we caught lightning in a bottle with Wiggins 2 years ago, that's over now, Klays injury sadly has well and truly sped up his aging.

KuraiT

Okc coach think he Christian bale interrogating heath ledger 😂

bayareaglock

Agree. Kerr cannot coach Klay objectively and play him the right way. He is emotionally committed to Klay. And Klay has no self awareness that his best role now is a bench role player. Must move Klay. It affects whole team. I am willing to wait Wiggs, he will be back.

Tai Jan Huang

I hope they continue this losing streak, and I'll go one step further, I hope they continue it in a BAD WAY. Like 20-30pt losses every night. Maybe, JUST MAYBE THEN, Kerr will finally see how fucking hardheaded he is and playing these washed up, trash "vets" with no innovation on offense, putrid effort on defense, and complete dumbfounded rotations WILL NO LONGER CUT IT IN TODAYS NBA. Kuminga has clearly taken huge steps back. But Moody got off to an amazing start this year and yet???????? Where the fuck was he? WHERE THE FUCK IS JACKSON DAVIS?!?!?! It was literally melting my brain seeing these old fucks get cooked play after play after play and Kerr just shrugging his shoulders like "oooooo if only there was something I could do about this.....oh well!". This is not a "slump" for Klay. This is father time telling, pleading, BEGGING, Klay that he needs to accept he is no longer what he used to be and certainly not in the same universe as what he THINKS he is. His averages might go back up a little. But he wont get any better on defense. He wont ever get a better handle. And he wont be able to create his own shot. He is a catch and shoot guy through and through. And if those shots arent falling, his legacy of a "3nD" player left long ago when those injuries happened and the D was no longer feasible. Wiggins just needs to step away right now. Theres just no point in rolling him out there for him to be that bad. He clearly doesnt want to be playing. So fine. Go away, and let guys who want to play, paly. I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD IF I SEE COREY JOSEPH STEP ON A BASKETBALL COURT ONE MORE TIME IM GONNA HAVE A FUCKING ANEURYSM. Kerr and his absolute OBSESSION with these undersized trash guards never ceases to amaze me.

Jansen E

Honestly the biggest issue to me is the defense the whole point of this home stand was that they were gonna get to practice more and work on some of the defensive issues we saw earlier even when we were winning. The elephant in the room is that it seems like kerr is not the best defensive coach but had a lot of good defenders with good defensive coordinators if you will

JSII

I miss perimeter loon

Kenneth

They've been trash for awhile. I honestly don't know why they can't come up with a better defensive scheme to handle it... I mean, desperation zone ain't gonna cut it.

Neal X

Even during Klay's heyday, he worked best as just the catch-and-shoot guy who benefited from Steph's gravity. And, he had the juice to be a great on-ball defender. Those days are gone, and while it makes me sad, I think the time has come to say goodbye, IF they still want to contend. Maybe they don't, who knows.

Neal X

Yeah i think the biggest factor in this game was Perimeter defense. The switching, communicating, closeouts were all TRASH.

A m a r Singg

When you build a relationship with someone it can create bias… im sure Steph, dray, and steve all believe in klay and want to believe he can still be the second best player on the team.. especially since Steph has yet to lose a step and he’s older.. it has to be on klay to tell coach that he needs to play more of a kyle korver or danny green role

Offtopic K

yup, in fact the first thing he does against a defender is turn his back to them to protect the ball...and try to back them down.

A m a r Singg

Kerr isn't doing him any favors. Kerr is still running an offense designed to feed Klay, instead of using Klay like Boston used Ray Allen for instance.

A m a r Singg

Yeah I'm usually one to give Kerr the benefit of the doubt, as Alch says, he's earned it-- but not this time. His rotations have EVERYONE just scratching their heads.

Neal X

Klay and Wig are going to be better. Loon need to lost some weight. But play more Moody, Truce. We are going to need them

Natto Santo

Ofc the wiggins and klay woes have been other worldly bad, but honestly the thunder hit damn near every shot. Its hard to win in todays nba when people are shooting that well, ofc we probably gave up half of those shots wide open...

Pelvis

It's kinda obvious that our entire team concept is collapsing before our very eyes. Everything that worked 2 years ago is a complete no-go this time around. Clearly this is not a contending lineup anymore. Makes me sad on Steph's behalf, because he has another ring in him, but nobody else does, apparently.

Neal X

I really appreciate your attention to detail on shot mechanics. The way players set themselves and release is probably the most telling body language feature of winning basketball. Especially in today's game. And it's something I don't think I hear any analysts go too deep on. In some ways, shot mechanics tell the entire intention and success of most offensive possessions and possibly even reaches all the way to the quality of coaching

yan't get right

Yeah I understand why.. he wasn’t like Steph.. was an iron man… loved by everyone even the biggest warriors haters… now all that has flipped where it’s tough to find klay fans nowadays… he needs to accept he’s a role player now and take a team friendly deal

Offtopic K

I agree

Jakob

Or because he is way to loyal to the core guys/experienced players or likes to play them over younger players? It is really hard to earn minutes in the rotation as a young player. But at the end, Steve Kerr has to adjust

Jakob

Loon is an all time playoff performer but tbh some games he should just be a DNP. Not a knock to him and he didn’t even play bad was keeping us in it with offensive rebounds and attacking the rim, but the limits really show in this tough young west. Save him for the matchups where he excels (looking at Sabonis 🤣) and let TJD go blow for blow with these young athletes on a night to night basis

Luke Zhang

Totally agree with your point

Jakob

But I feel like we have the right pieces compared to last year - it’s once again the rotations and the willingness of a few players to adjust. You mentioned in your breakdown that moody is probably the second best shot maker of this team. I totally agree. But, I feel like he is not allowed to show this because of the past years (right leash) and what on the other hand the old fellas (especially Klay) were allowed to do

Jakob

The tough part is we all understand why he’s so stubborn, was robbed of 3 years at the height of his powers. But sooner or later gotta come to grips with reality, it’s tough love time

Luke Zhang

CJ has to play little bit during the season but that’s the irrational logic from Steve Kerr. Podz or moody would deserve the minutes over him. It’s the same scenario as last year where lamb has played more than 55 games and took away the minutes from moody and kuminga. Well, where is lamb now and what a surprise we want to lean on kuminga and moody? Playing them more would have probably helped boost their growth

Jakob

a few seasons ago he won a ring with Wiggins as his second best player though

A m a r Singg

he doesn't have nearly a good enough handle to operate in the midrange like that. he still relies on his athleticism for almost everything

bruhchillll

Alch is the grown up in the room. He's seen a whole lot of bad basketball his whole life, and then got to watch this dynasty. It all probably feels like house money to him. I think you can stay more even-keeled when you take a longer view of things.

Major Powers

Moody only played 3 minutes more than Joseph who was looking like Bruce Brown's uncoordinated cousin. What did Moody do to Kerr?

Goku44

Though the organization will first explore Wiggs and/or CP trades - it's Klay that must be moved because Kerr can't honestly assess his on-court impact.

Stevie Ray

Why ask Kuminga to keep doing something that he isn't good at? He's not good at shooting contested 3's. He should be more like DeRozan.

Goku44

as much as i love looney, he doesn't offer enough to justify keeping him. if we get to the point where we need to make a trade, then we have to look at packaging looney with another piece to get a REAL difference-maker back

bruhchillll

Agreed

Seb P

The question you make "if the league has changed-can Steve Kerr change?"-there are two sides to that (great breakdown as always Alch): 1: There's no guarantee that the Warriors go to the playoffs if they change and go with youth/size/quickness contingent but it would be a good idea for those who deserve to play to play. And gimme Moses, Podz, Kuminga over CJ, Wiggins and Klay at this point. 2: If they DON'T change and this is the Last Dance on old, tired legs-they are betting on some sort of Knute Rockne "win one for the Gipper" type of group miracle of somehow turning back the clock to 2018 where they somehow get it done with the core 3 or 4. What's more likely at this point-honestly? If Kerr goes with option 2-it's only prolonging the inevitable option 1. Only winning a chip makes that miracle whip worth it. In terms of roster: What team in their right mind would want this version of Klay, Wiggins-or Draymond for that matter? This team is starting to look more and more like the 2017 SF Giants. The big difference is still Stephen Curry. I would be fine personally if Steph turned into Lebron James and orchestrated some moves to get more help like LeBron always does everywhere. I watched bad GSW basketball for decades before Steph (some good mixed in there)-and I'll likely watch bad GSW basketball after Steph. But it will never be the same when Steph steps down. I'm a GSW fan-not a core 3 fan-and of course I love Steph like we all do. Steph still looks great-not so the other core members-especially Klay. I love Klay too but he has not shown that he's able to do the things he did before-it may be father time showing his face.

Paul Hanson

Like Alc said is Kerr willing to change? The league caught up, Kerr should’ve flipped it a few seasons ago and went with stretch bigs just to keep the league honest.. because now everyone copying the earlier warriors style.. you see it in the OKC team.. Kerr keeps running these small ball lineups and it’s frustrating to watch because he refuses to adjust

Enzo Cree

Thanks for the positive outlook for the breakdown as opposed to what we're seeing all over socials. I agree there's still room for Klay and Wiggs to just get back to being average, and it'll look a whole lot better. But Kerr has to be dynamic, and I'm just skeptical about what exactly will get him to change his perspective

Christian Oblena

What's disturbing to me is that I bloviated, even before he played, that the Wiseman pick would probably be a bust, and how during this last summer we should trade Klay and Wiggs for a big while they still had value; and then to see that I was pretty much right and the "all wise" organization continues to be off base. That's not good look for the Warriors management and Kerr. ... Trade Wiggs and Klay for Sam Presti

Tyler Durden

yup I remember when he used to lock up cp3 and harden in iso situations. He's not even close to the same guy...and it seems like the coaching staff doesn't even realize it.

A m a r Singg

Man I feel bad for klay ngl.. his prime was cut short and he’s showing how bad his “nuances” of the game is… honestly proved why he wasn’t a top 75 player…

Offtopic K

yeah let's wait a little bit. it's only 12 games in. I could see this being his last year though.

A m a r Singg

And this is where I think some Warrior fans go too far. Firing a coach after one second round loss... after a championship season is wild...

Ballin Forever

I think Looney had gain weight to bang with the Centers... but that also affected his lateral quickness

Ballin Forever

Yeah after watching the video, seeing Loon get exposed was ugly. Again, Kerr being loyal to guys who won him rings. Loon isn't the same guy who could guard harden 1v1, he's bigger and slower...and the league is faster. At some point you have to ADJUST.

A m a r Singg

I can’t defend Kerr.. he’s got to go

Enzo Cree

I think it's a history of winning. He's won so much that he's become stubborn about his ways.

A m a r Singg

I defend Kerr alot.. but not playing TJD is wild. I have no defense for that shit

Ballin Forever

Alch is quite positive in this loosing streak....We better get our act together quickly. This puts the games we won by a close margin in another perspective.

Francisco Hazel

Yea i get the hate Klay has been getting. But i think its more about Wiggs not being Wiggs.. and not having any other offense outside of Klay. When he takes one of those bad shots.. I cringe.. but then I think to myself "Who else on the court is being aggressive looking for their shot?"... CP3 Wiggs Dray Loon all pass up shots. I think if Klay was on another team that had a clear 1st 2nd 3rd option... he wouldnt look as bad on nights where he dont have his legs. But when most nights are Steph or bust... he have to take those because noone else will

Ballin Forever

I hear you - but if we’re expecting Joseph to make a real impact WE IN TROUBLE ha

Ryan Mitchell

Wow - one of the few times that Alch is more positive than the general crowd. The first half of this game was painful to watch - like where’s the urgency!?

Ryan Mitchell

That’s a valid point, they aren’t doing klay any favors rn

Athletic Alchemy

I think he was promised some opportunities in order to sign

Athletic Alchemy

🤷🏽‍♂️

Athletic Alchemy

Yup I love your squad. We'll see how it goes! Lord knows I suck at these pickums!!! I need Embiid to stay healthy. Not holding my breath on that one though. My dumb ass drafted Wiseman 🤬

Joshuah Jerge

I think Kerr as a coach is interesting because I wondering if it’s a delusion that leads him to not change or it’s a reluctance because of fear.

Aben

Is this Thunder team not the spookiest team in the league? They are young, athletic, skilled, and seem to fit together really well already. Presti has a million assets to trade for better pieces alongside a bunch of cap space as a result of their best players being on rookie contracts. If he plays his cards right, they could be a powerhouse for years to come.

Jacob

Roles and defense has to be adjusted.. I think Joe and Dun will be very aggressive if the we don’t get it together within the firs 20 or so gm

Athletic Alchemy

OOf some of these closeouts and perimeter switching are BRUTAL.

A m a r Singg

I feel you 😂… my young roster is only gonna get stronger tho 📈

Athletic Alchemy

I know it’s november but it feels like another wasted year already

Dami I

I mean I don't blame them for TRYING Joseph, as he's their only real backup pg with Steph out. But it was so obvious he didn't belong in this game after the first stint. Then they brought him back for no known reason. Kerr had no feel for this game and who was in rhythm. He didn't adjust to Klay struggling either...he kept trying to feed him.

A m a r Singg

Nah bruh we there. Not looking good

Antonio lee

This game was really sad. I've been a great defender of Kerr's after the 2022 masterpiece where he proved me wrong. But his adherence to his old ways his hurting the team right now (not to say they would've won, but it could've been closer). Cory Joseph couldn't play in this game and it was apparent after his first stint, no need to bring him back in. Moody needs more minutes, he gives them shooting which they desperately need. My big issue is this: Steph isn't there, CP3 is running the offense. Don't run the SAME motion/offball offense and expect Klay to suddenly become great when he's been struggling to separate and get shots off all year and Steph isn't even there to draw attention. Run stuff CP3 is good at: PnR, and even some iso. Overall this team is just too loyal to their guys that won chips, and it's ultimately sinking them. This includes Wiggins as well. But alas, nothing really matters if Wiggins and Klay keep playing like this...I don't see a path forward or any real adjustments that would help if their wings play like this....it would simply be over.

A m a r Singg

No worries. I don't even want to listen to this one 😂😭 BTW I'm nipping at your heels in the league... VallejoDubsFan

Joshuah Jerge

alch this aint looking good - what do you think happens if curry isnt back for another few games and we end up dropping the next 4 and being 6-11?

Alex Lee

This one was hard to watch. Why is Joseph getting minutes?

Nathan Glanzer

Still dont understand why C. Joseph gets so much pt with everyone thats missing but TJD doesn't. We miss our interior D with dray missing, yet we play another guard heavy minutes.

Christian Wawer
