2023-12-25 10:08:33 +0000 UTCThe Draymond thing is so interesting because I don't see a scenario in which Kerr "misses" Draymond's contributions right now, but that also doesn't really have anything to do with how Draymond plays. It's just the timing of Dray's bullshit coinciding with Kerr's hand being forced in so many other ways. Earlier in the year, it was hard for him to demote Wiggins and Klay because he hadn't planned on TRYING anything other than waiting for his beloved starting 5 to wake up. So to Kerr, it felt like they were "missing" a lot. Players like GP2 covered up those holes. But I think now that Kerr is more unlocked, Draymond's absence should ideally should turn him into another "rotation piece" that Kerr just has to consider going forward. Just like how Wiggins is being considered a usable player off the bench. I mean, could you imagine if Wiggins was putting up 23 a night and being aggressive as a starter? Steve Kerr would still be yapping about waiting to see the 2022 starting 5 together in Draymond's indefinite absence. Looney would still be getting featured as a result. Klay saved his own ass at the last minute from becoming a rotation piece, but I hope that this team tries enough new shit for the next couple months so that EVERYONE NOT named Steph curry is just considered an interchangeable rotation piece. To strike that balance would be the crowning coaching achievement of the "Strength in Numbers" era

Being overly optimistic about this win streak is the same overreaction as saying Klay can no longer shoot and saying that we should blow it up. The warriors look great right now, but the regular season is all about randomness and lack of equilibrium. Dray is the exact kind of player that still will dominate a playoff matchup over 99% of the league. He IS the powerhouse in the right situation. The problem is getting the team to that right situation and not letting Draymond fuck that up

There are so many different chapters to a season and we just went from the "EVERYONE PANIC" opening chapter of the season to the "we're finally settling in and developing our youth" chapter of the season. Draymond isn't needed for any of those but once we get to the "post-all star break spark" and "post-season push" chapter, Draymond might be our most important player. The timing on everything off the court will be really important for this year's team. It's like Steve Kerr has to make subs on a macro level this year

CP3 is super valuable as a "coach" either on the floor or not, but if it's a choice between him and GP2/Podz, we need their defense and energy so we don't get blown off the court against the better teams. And, we've also seen how his slow pace hurts us.

It could be that when Dray is initiating the offense it becomes more of a 2 man game between him and Steph. JK getting guaranteed minutes and a bigger role has settled him down and when you bring in TJD, we don't have the athleticism deficit we have with Loon and Dray. Much more dynamic. Pistol Podz Marovich has also enhanced our offense. Those factors play into the fluidity we've seen. It's going to be interesting how Kerr handles minutes when Dray returns. Throw in GPII and it gets even more spicey. Whatever Kerr does, Wiggs has to stay on the bench and JK needs to remain in the starting lineup. Honestly, the way JK has played, I don't want to make the proposed Siakim deal that includes him, other young guys, and draft capital. I'm not saying JK is as good as Siakim now, but Pascal is what he is at this point, and JK is still ascending. By the end of the year, the gap could be a lot closer. Certainly could outweigh the "all-in" capital we would have given up to get Siakim.

I don't know if we are close enough this year to trade any of these 3 for a Steph window Vet. Wiggins, sure, but he's underwater and very hard to trade now with his salary, Moody I still like for a lot of reasons, I'd be willing to trade him but would he bring enough? If I thought we could get to the finals this year, yes lots of youngsters on the block but really I think that's a bridge too far right now. As well as they are playing maybe just see what u can get for Moody and Wiggins. Dray is the interesting add.. Oh and thanks for everything again this year Alch, Merry Christmas!!

Same with Dray even if he's been hurting more than helping right now. Wigs for another playable big (preferably who can shoot) would be great. But who that is IDK

But Kerr is too stuck in the conservative coaching of yesteryear. He doesn't trust the young guys. It kind of seems like Dubs get taken out in Rd 1 or 2 of this year and Kerr doesn't get his contract re-upped. They bring in a coach who can develop and keep Curry happy. And that's when JK will have his time to shine. Then... and however long Dray is going to be going to couples therapy

Alch, do you think this is a loss of confidence from being glossed over in the rotation? Before this season, there were reasons for moody being overlooked (veteran experience, age, continuity, etc.). Maybe now seeing the rooks play over him especially Podz being in the lineup in a spot, where if we hadn’t known of Podz’s abilities would’ve been given to moody, has led to him second guessing a lot of his own movements and skill. Do you think there could be some validity to this? Merry Christmas btw Let’s go for Win #6 on Monday!!!

What is your ideal scenario for JK and the team when Draymond returns? There are some dynamics at play here, right. First, both JK and Draymond do well bringing the ball up the court. I'd imagine Dray sits higher in the pecking order for that area. Second is shot making. Do you see JK being enough of an off ball / range threat to be able to play him heavily alongside Draymond? And with the emergence of Podz, and the fact that he plays the point in the starting line up with Klay sliding to 3, I'm concerned Dray's return pushes JK to the bench again instead of Loon.

Playoffs are a completely different beast, and the youth and bench squad alone do not get it done in the playoffs. We need the best version of Draymond to even stand a chance.

I'm still sceptical about this season. we're no where near making a splash in the play-offs. We have trouble with the bottom teams. In championship years, Steph used to sit out way more 4th quarters. If everyone was healthy, I wonder if the young guns would have gotten a chance. Now there is hope that they have meaningful minutes under their belts come playoff time.
