I was thinking Moses w Podz when Lester went in instead, especially as Podz was taking corner, not point. Guessing Moses on 1’s is tough, dunno.

As for CP3, that's true, he does have that strength, but he also slows the pace down and will be hunted on defense. We've been having success lately from playing faster. IMO slashing at lightning speed was the best way to give ourselves a chance against Denver, and like Alch said, attacking Jokic. If CP can pick up the pace and run an offense like that, I'd be more willing to be optimistic.
Neal X
2024-02-27 20:49:58 +0000 UTC
This is it exactly -- it feels like they've been let off "the leash" but there's a big difference between that and actually designing an offense around them.
Neal X
2024-02-27 20:45:40 +0000 UTC
@Jakob Kerr has been letting Kuminga cook as of late. I think its just a matter of drawing up a better gameplan to allow Kuminga and Wiggs to cook

@Neal X.. I think CP3 can take advantage of Jokic's drop coverage if he is hunting that middy. Outside of Steph.. CP3 is the only one who can operate that pick and roll well enough to generate a switch and take advantage of the drop. I think in a playoff setting.. CP3's ability to execute in the half court can absolutely help

2024-02-27 17:57:09 +0000 UTC
I have to conclude again this is a coaching issue at the root. Kerr's become set in his ways and isn't designing plays for a slasher like Kuminga, EVERYTHING is designed around enabling perimeter shots.
Neal X
2024-02-27 16:28:04 +0000 UTC
Honest question you really think CP3 is going to make a positive impact against a team of giants like Denver?
Neal X

Nothing to figure out, Jokic is as smart as Dray, only bigger. The end, lol. Sometimes it's just that simple.

2024-02-27 16:18:03 +0000 UTC
I'm with you. Part of me just doesn't respect someone who has the natural advantage of being so big that only a fraction of players in the league can really interfere with his shooting and passing. He is very skilled, but I just can't admire him like I do Steph, who does everything with pure skills and no physical advantages.
Neal X
2024-02-27 16:16:32 +0000 UTC
If Lacob thinks he's winning chips when Steph is 39 or 40 he's clearly doing LSD. Next season is basically the last window.

Like you said Alch, we expected Looney to play. We also expected it to accomplish absolutely nothing. Kerr is here to stay, and he also is here to keep doing the same shit over and over. TJD 12 minutes. Long defender Moody: 2 minutes. A new roster spot for shrimpy guard Lester Q who got 12 minutes, instead of big-bodied Gui Santos who doesn't even get garbage time minutes. Once CP3 comes back and Kerr feels he has to give him "30 minutes a night" ... can I even watch this anymore? Does Kerr go to sleep with headphones on that repeat the mantra, "small ball" "core 3" and "vets" over and over?

Alch, your take on our 4th quarter defense (watched your youtube vid too) is dead-on. It's been the same problem all year, 4th quarter meltdowns, one after the next. The problem is overuse (minutes) of the core and perhaps more importantly excessive deferral to Steph and Clay. How many easy baskets did we ignore in search of something way more difficult to execute and predictable to defend? The strategy just looks so stale out there. As for Denver, I've watched a bunch of their games this year, especially against the other contenders in the west. They're talented, big, and play smart and with great poise. Barring injuries, they're the team to beat in the West imo. I've especially enjoyed watching them smack down the fakers time and time again (next best thing to a warriors win is a fakers loss). IN any case, we could possibly squeak by them in a 7 game series but it's not happening following the script from 2014 unless Klay and Steph step in a time machine. If Wiggs/JK/Trayce/GP2 are not attacking the rim, we're going down hard and fast. Kerr, keep pushing the line-ups. Go Warriors. Go Alch!

Attacking Murray with Kuminga and Wiggins could be the key to winning a series. The previous Denver game before this had Denver benching Murray for foul trouble because Kuminga was eating him alive.

Motion/pace stuck out to me, starting off great and leading to open looks.
Then ….it slowed way down, easier to guard, fewer open looks.
I thought pace was Dubs’ identity? Even after made shots, pace can be a thing, especially against size! What other chances are there besides nuclear splashing?
Dray copped to getting cooked by Jokic, but how much should he be sole defender? Could trading off on him help save Dray’s energy and focus?
Tough problem for entire league!

Thats why Kerr can't be justified in how he brings up the young guys, you can try to say, "oh they worked on their game because of it," no they learn to stand around and not try to do anything without consulting the core 3 first, they don't want to get benched because they didn't prioritize the core 3 over playing agenda-less basketball, Kuminga is the outlier.

Klay shooting form is becoming a sling shot now. It is very hard to shoot. The set point is almost behind his head sometimes. He should get back to his old form. like a semi-push shot.

Draymond can’t guard Jokic and both of them know it. Every great defender has their kryptonite. Shades of Kobe’s “I could never figure out kd” quote. For Draymond, we will probably remember Jokic as the guy he never figured out. I think the fact that they hugged and laughed it out after this game was an example of ultimate respect from Draymond, nothing more to it. Anyway, getting sick of losing to Denver but at least they’re a respectful bunch.

Hard to be too mad at this L (even though in a vacuum we could've won had Steph and Dray played up to their standard) when Joe Lacob is coming out and admitting he's not going all in on the core and Steph, and instead would rather be mediocre now if it means in 2028 they aren't in the lottery.
This team still desperately needs another mobile big who can rim protect and be a vertical spacer, and preferably another ball handler/true 2nd option. That's what's holding this team back from ever being a true contender again. Not trading CP3, Moody, and hoarding all their picks is showing us where the front office stands.

Ultimately with this matchup against the Nuggets.. we have to be able to generate as many mismatches as they can. Every time down the court they have a clear mismatch with whoever is guarding Jokic.. and unless we can find a way to attack Jokic via switches out on Steph or Wiggs... we'll lose that series.
Hopefully we can get a healthy CP3 who can add another layer of perimeter shot making. But we desperately need Wiggs and Kuminga to be ultra aggressive when attacking that weakside closeout. We may have to sacrifice some spacing in order to find more size mismatches. At this point.. Kuminga is not strong enough to bully AG.

You only have to guard Steph because people don’t cut and look to finish. They chase Steph and play the passing lane.

Feels like exactly what I said on the Live yesterday. Warriors have historically only played with 3 players on the offensive end and it’s catching up to us as Steph and Klay age. The culture needs to change to empower more people to attack and LOOK to score. Funny enough I think the Nuggets do the best job of mixing cutters and slashers with Joker’s passing to make everyone a threat to score

I love this lineup, I wonder if TJD can learn the Dray Rover roll where he can hunt blocks being a weakside defender. AG to me is the problem, need Dray on him to keep him out at the 3 line, he doesn't post Dray, but then it is TJD on Joker who will just score but like Alch said you can't guard Joker you just have to go at him and score expose his defensive vulnerabilities. He is smart and knows how to play team defense but is not anything POA wise.

Warriors core 3 are so much like cooking a fine dining recipe these days, where it used to be like a microwave. The timing has to be perfect and everything has to sync up. With Klay going crazy in the second unit, I'm sure it feels to Draymond like this is a game where he should be facilitating, but he's not playing with Klay as much: so he's gotta put a different hat on. He's gotta score, especially with Steph not having it. Steph also can't directly benefit from Klay's hot shooting night or Klay's defense to get himself going anymore so he has to lean on JK and Wigs for his spacing instead. It's just a different relationship they're all 3 going to need with each other and how to compensate for the changes. Seems like they're going to have to make long-distance emotional reads rather than on-court reads for this new setup to work out.
Shout out to Denver though, they literally did the thing the Warriors always hope to do which is close out quarters.

Lol do I keep having to repeat myself guys??? STOP BELIEVING IN THIS SEASON. There is no "turnaround". We can stop saying "watch out! Theyre back!"
Obviously the Nuggets are the champs and they are the best in the league. But a double digit lead at home only to lose by double digits? 16 pts in the 4th?
We clearly canNOT compete with a true center, no matter how good Draymond has been.

Damn, I mean Jokic is just unbelievable. Obviously, on offense he is just unstoppable, but defensively, his nickname proves to be true as well. He knows when to lightly contest, when to stunt, when I pull the rug, just doing everything possible to be a good defender despite his lack of athleticism.

Only prob with that is offensive spacing. 2 bigs who can’t shoot is not ideal in todays league (I know Draymond having his best year but at best he making 2-3 threes a game… not a threat)

I kind of felt that we need to roll out a big lineup of Curry, JK, Wiggs, Draymond, and TJD to match up with the athleticism of the Nuggets starters. Pods is great but it was the ideal match up for him. Since they had Curry on KCP, Wiggins on Murray, then I'd say TJD on Gordon, JK on MP, and Dray on Jokic. A lot bigger and more able to help with length

Dont know if y'all noticed but Kuminga got more aggressive (offensively) when Pods was subbed for Klay near the end, and this is what I was talking about, Pods dribbles the air out of the ball and looks for Steph and Klay too much

Another thing about the older core. The nugget starters played so many more minutes. They made a point to target the weaker unit.I'm not sure the core can handle the load that a younger group. The nugget starters can play 35 a night and be fine.

An entire two minutes for Moody.
They should have just traded him and brought back Tuscano Anderson if all they want is a seat filler to cheer for the team. JTA would cost less on a vet minimum than a lottery pick up for extension next year.
Moody must have broke up with Kerr's niece or something for him to be done so dirty by this team. They have no respect for him.
I won't be surprised if Moody is waived next season.
