Warriors vs Lakers PS GM-5

I see it brotha and you right. He’s willing to play in the system just prioritize him

Athletic Alchemy

I doubt anyone will see this but Kerr needs to consistently give kuminga looks and draw up a couple plays for him at the beginning of games. It will put him at ease and make him a much more willing passer after he gets one or two shots early.

Mason Hornick

Yo Chip, wok3 up today and changed my mind. Don't really like the gamble Claxton. If we can get Val for 2nds, send GPII out for size. Run at as blackmore this season 🥂

Stevie Ray

I’m in the minority who believes Wiggs is going to have a bounce back year, no matter the trade or contract chatter. He’s looking and moving well, as Alch points out, quicker and smoother to go with reports about him reporting in great shape. As much as I love GPII, I’ve yet to see him have that instant impact on the court we’ve come to expect. I hope he’s still got that gear after all his body has been through at this stage of his career.

Chip Tingle

Nice essay brother. I agree with it all. Let's jump on the hype train for now. If it goes south we can create a support group 😁 But I think we gonna kick some ass this season. 50 wins!

Dimitrios Cacomanolis

All aboard the hype train! Toot toot.

Dimitrios Cacomanolis

All aboard the virtuous cycle train ❤️

Dimitrios Cacomanolis

Unc! Would you ever consider doing a full season preview? After this preseason and now having a better look at the team Would you consider doing a schedule walk through and have a “predict the warriors record” episode on your YT? Thought it’d be interesting to get your take on possible scheduled losses and potential win streaks throughout the season Obviously this is hard to predict with possible injuries and other aspects But would be pretty cool to hear your take on the schedule if it’s worth your time 💯

Ben D

Yeah, AD is very top heavy, TJD is very bottom heavy, solid core and legs. Aside from talent that's probably a big reason why Trayce will never have the kind of finishing at the rim you'd want from a scoring big, wingspan is such a huge asset.

Neal X

Probably the most encouraging win so far in preseason. Only concern with Wigs at the 2 is I hope he's able to knock down 3s consistently. Podz, Melton, Buddy & Moody should pick up the slack in that regard and it's Wigs first game back, but that's something to monitor. Side note, part of me feels bad for Bronny because it's been more about LeBron than it is about him. It's just a weird dynamic with the pressure of being LeBron's son & playing for the Lakers. Once the regular season rolls around, he'll probably get his few minutes to play with his dad to make history, ESPN will talk about said history ad nauseum for 48 hours and then Bronny gets banished to the Lakers G League team for the rest of the season.

Nick Elliston

Its the arms. Look at the extension on those layups.

Lee Schumacher

GPII is an expiring contract. So he has inherent economic value for a franchise looking to reduce its cap sheet next off-season. Wiggs is the exact opposite. The national consensus this off-season, is Andrew is on one of the worst contracts of any veterans in the association. Now, just seeing him healthy and in shape probably softened that sentiment a bit from this last game -- and if he plays well he may regain some value. But the real value is the Warriors 3 1st rounders they can trade. Wiggins is the 1 big movable contract. But because it's a distressed asset, Golden State has to compensate with draft capital in a possible trade. For example, let's say player x is worth 2 firsts on the trade market. The Dubs would need to include 3 if Wiggins was the matching salary because of the long term investment required. The hope is that by December, his value has at least rehabilitated itself where 2 2nd rounders would be the cost of compensation. Before, teams would take on bad contracts with open arms. But with the new 2nd Apron, the approach front offices will take will continue to alter. The one player that could theoretically become available if Wiggins looks really good is Jarrett Allen due to Cleveland's lack of wing depth. I doubt that trade manifesting though. Valančiūnas and Claxton are far more likely to be available at a reasonable price.

Stevie Ray

J-Val though is available now and the Dubs aren't the only team in need of depth at center. I absolutely love the current squad. But it's because Kuminga and Moody are playing, the two wings who should've been playing and developing last year. My fear is Wiggins gets in the way of this. B/C if given the opportunity, for sure JK and Moses will become top 6 players on our roster this season (if not already), but not if it's like last year. GPII for Valančiūnas is the easiest route, and the cheapest with regards to cost in draft equity. But Gary is a great locker room presence. With Wiggins, I'm not sure if he really wants to play basketball anymore.

Stevie Ray

Any chance JB would ever appear with you? Am I the only one who’d love this?

Chip Tingle

I’d love to see in-game X go extinct!

Chip Tingle

Those are def the two guys I've been imagining would be feasible and good trade targets. They have their pros and cons, but either could be really nice additions who would add roster balance more than take away depth. But let's see what we've got with the current squad first, like you said we have until the midseason trade period to make a decision

Karim Q

How weak is the trade market right now for both GPII and Wiggs?!

Chip Tingle

The fan base can be a sad joke too often about Kerr.

Chip Tingle

🙏 Alch! “Simba”… If that starting lineup can gel on O, their team D has a high ceiling in my eyes, though Melton could be a better fit some nights. Seeing both Wiggs and Loon move this well is big.

Chip Tingle

I went to the game (live here in Vegas) Had a blast! Made it to the early steph warm up shootaround and it was a real joy to watch. I'm def feeling more optimistic after these first 5 games and slaying the lakers.

Ron Rierson

Anderson going fit great good defender great passer and not going force shots up

BASEDTEXAS18

that was my first thought.. but if you look at that first 3 off Loon he locks on early.. maybe its on the move vs set. I got to see more to pinpoint it

Athletic Alchemy

I understand the desire for a big man but think about the teams the Warriors are chasing, OKC, Denver, Dallas,Boston, the Lakers; all these teams have hoards of big bodies, not just one dominating big man. Even Denver does not rely solely on Jokic. To beat those teams might mean exploiting the Warriors strengths (depth, speed, shooting) rather than trying to match a gang of muscle guys with one ‘big man’. Sacrificing depth to add one jumbo asset might be a mistake. It’s easy to see a winning strategy for the year: the starters strive to stay close, then the second and third teams dominate the second quarter and the late third quarter. When the three’s aren’t falling they’ll lose a few games but it looks like that might not be a common occurrence. It’s clear the fan base is ready to leap on Kerr for perceived mistakes in minutes allotment.

Jerry Heverly

Val might also be the better lockerroom add. And it would probably only cost a few 2nds or a heavy protected first. Claxton though is a serious upgrade, and could play supercharged version of what TJ-D currently is. His contact also descends. But he would cost at least 2 firsts. 1 to take on the Wiggins long term money, the other for Claxton. It likely would be the last big move the Warriors make in the Curry Era. We have till mid Dec to decide though, he's not trade eligible till then.

Stevie Ray

Comforted to not be the only irrationally optimistic person regarding Wiggins 🙂. Feels like a lonely island, haha.

Special K

AD always eats our lunch and he probably always will, but at the end of the day, just like with DeRozan, they're hard 2's. My question is, if he's only 6'10", how come he looks way bigger than Trayce out on the court? Is it the headband? The brows?

Neal X

I miss Jim Barnett...

Eduardo Castro

Paul George dodge was a blessing in disguise, age 38 making max playing 50 games a year is nasty business

Luke Zhang

I watched the Redeem Team doc and as much as LeBron can come off as a corny corporate manager at times he does have a knack of making guys feel comfortable

Luke Zhang

Valanciunas would be great for the size and physicality as well as an interior scoring touch. Claxton would be a great modern big/rim protector and line up great against OKC/Minny/Dallas but I feel like Jokic would eat him alive. Not sure who I'd want more but hell I'd love either lol

Luke Zhang

the short shoe rant gave me jim barnett flashbacks

alex simmons

there was a play where i thought the exact same thing as your wife. How quickly looney caught a pass and got from the line to the restricted for a lay...never seen that before!

Sevrin Weiss

Podziemski was ranked 78th on ESPN’s top 100…

Kd127

The new additions all seem to fit to their roles and to the up tempo and 3 point shooting emphasis.

Steven Stanley

Because of the recent passing of Pops. First time he's seen Wiggs since then.

Stevie Ray

I know everyone's stoked off Wiggins looking in shape. But his vibe and even style of play on offense is different than the rest of this squad we've seen early this preseason. And if he starts to swallow up 30+ mins a night, Moody and Waters are gonna be one's disappearing into the depths of this deep Steve Kerr rotation. In the offseason, before seeing everyone, it was easy to plug names into the trade machine to make exchanges for an upgrade....now we in love with everybody...and the game get's harder, cuz the names have defined faces in a well-oiled machine. But over the last two years, we've always played well against small teams. But the top 4 teams in the West are fucking gigantic. Either {Wiggins + Picks} for [Claxton] out of Brooklyn / or {GPII} for [J-Val] out of D.C. B/C we still lack not only true size but depth at the 5. Imagine Dray, TJ-D, or Loon miss significant time...the center rotation is too tiny and too thin. Wheras, at the 2/3, there's a clear surplus of talent.

Stevie Ray

I think that extra beat from Moody comes from him getting his eyes up at the rim late. He needs to snap his head to the rim on the catch

Andre Brooks

Could you explain that part ab Lebron dapping up Wiggins alch? Was a lil confused

Andrew Lee

I know it’s still the honeymoon with Kyle Anderson but I am so glad we were able to get him on the team. I don’t think people will give credit to the front office about getting him and Buddy out of the mess that was Klay leaving. There was just too much noise made over the misfires this summer trying for a big name to replace Klay when that’s never gunna happen. But I can see what the plan is after these preseason games and how things look.

Blott

Wild West is right lol. I take a peak every once in a while and immediately feel the need to take an old man nap.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

I’ve said it before, but I really like the relatively weak schedule to start the season. I think that’s a real advantage for a new team figuring out their identity. You get a couple wins, you figure out a rhythm, people start to buy in more…virtuous cycle.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

Nice to see what the team looks like when the threes aren’t falling. Really encouraging. I’m irrationally optimistic re Wiggins. People forget that before he got injured and then took that first unexplained break, he was fantastic in that 2022-23 season. He picked up right where he left off post championship.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

Happy to see Wiggins out there again, hope he shakes the rust off quickly. He really raises the ceiling on this team if he plays to his capabilities. Kerr said he was in fantastic shape entering camp before the bronchitis; hope he can regain that fitness quickly. I think there’s an underrated connection between Wiggins’s fitness and level of play, and folks underestimate how the rib injury + missing time for family issues impacted that for him 2 seasons ago, and even last season. I think it’s a mistake to write him off. Time will tell.

Special K

(incoming essay. Oops sorry) Im scared Alch....... Im scared that my brewing optimism will betray me. For starters: 1) I was ready to grill Wiggins' return. Of course I understand the loss of his father and being away from basketball for so long and then being sick. But I was ready to grill his EFFORT. I thought he was gonna come back lethargic and just run through the motions halfassed. He proved me wrong. I saw him actually TRYING defensively. Like 85% locked in. For a preseason game too??? Oh my god. I dont remember if he scored a single basket last night and I dont care. I am okay with him needing to get back in to rhythm to score. But what we needed from him primarily is his defense and effort. And I saw it last night. He looks ready. I know he wont be like that every night and we are bound to get "IDGAF" Wiggins at some point in the season, But its just nice to see him in a much better mindset to start the season. If we even get 80% of 2022 Wiggins, Im jumping on the Championship Train!!!! 2) I did not even notice or realize Melton was out last night until the game ended. This is absolutely not any shade at all to Melton. I love his signing so far. And I think he will be a key piece to the rotation. Why I point this out is even with Podz AND Melton out (two primary ball handlers for the second unit), I DIDNT EVEN SEE US SKIP A BEAT. The rotations felt smooth. It never felt like we began to lose control of the game between stretches. I dont remember the last time I felt like that about this team. Maybe 2017?!?!? 3) Just as you pointed out, Kuminga has gotten owned by people like AD in the past. I expected nothing different. And yet, I saw some actual growth from Kuminga!! Now it could be AD was only really going 60% speed because preseason, but it was still very refreshing to see Kuminga be able to put pressure on an elite defensive big. Thats so promising. 4) I didnt like Curry coming back in the 4th quarter of a preseason game with a potentially messed up hand. Wtf was that about? 5) I know Moody cant be a starter unless someone gets injured. I know he wont be the 6th man off the bench first. I know he probably wont average 20mpg. But godDAMN I hope he gets enough playing time to stay in rhythm. The dude is looking like an ELITE roleplayer. Both he and Kuminga do need to get better defensively and I think you can only do that by playing time. But if they both are simultaneously making this year-4 leap. It could all be happening at the perfect time for the final opening of "Curry's Window". 6) I honestly didnt know Kyle Anderson was that good shooting 3s haha. I dont know if he'll keep that up. I doubt it. But its awesome. Someone tell me to calm down. You know me Alch. Im as pessimistic as they come. I pumped the brakes HARD after the 28 threes. I was telling everyone else to do the same. Its still only preseason. For all we know, we could start the season 0-10 and all be calling for Kerr's head before Thanksgiving. But we look nice man.......Dont know what we will look like vs a team like OKC or Denver or even the Mavs (although my take on them is they regress significantly). I WANT TO BELIEVE. But Im scared to be hurt again ahahahaha.

Jansen E

Ready to see how the team plays when it counts. It seems things are looking good.

Mike Gonzalez

JK trying to get reps in to figure out AD is a really good sign tbh. He clearly has a more efficient bag he wants to put to the test

yan't get right

"Slomo's reload 3 should count as 4, they hurting peoples feelings" lmao

theycallmemiyagi

yooo lol

Athletic Alchemy

you already know!

Athletic Alchemy

there is a discord that is the wild west no mods, but let me look into the new chat feature Patron has added

Athletic Alchemy

I could see the inefficiency of Steph’s shoes more if they were trying to be the most aesthetically pleasing basketball shoes on the market like Jordans. But Under Armor has done a complete disservice to Steph’s legacy. Once Steph retires, I wouldn’t be surprised if Nike acquires the UA company

Offtopic K

yup

Athletic Alchemy

got too! lol

Athletic Alchemy

Basketball chemistry is a delicate thing man, but it seems like this group could overachieve

Athletic Alchemy

i was thinking kerr put steph and draymond in at the end because he wanted to see the starters with waters

orion

agreed, I haven't seen Sharp.. not sure Dallas would help us out

Athletic Alchemy

Hachimura looks like a Capybara 💀

Gerrard Israel Laraga

I liked how we looked last night, but I really highlighted how much we need a true big man. If we got a big we would be able to get more bodies down the floor of defensive rebounds cause we wouldn't need to gang rebound as much. We would also improve or perimeter defense, because we wouldn't need to send so many bodies in the paint. Two pick ups I think would take the warriors up a level are Jonas valanciunas and jamari Sharp from the Mavs. Jonas can't play big rebound and contest well plus spread the floor and score in the paint. That would take centers out the paint leaving more Lanes to the paint for kuminga and Wiggins. Sharp is the opposite of Jonas. He is a 7'5 ultra athletic center with great shot blocking and good at staying infornt of small ground plus a next level love threat. He would be cheap to get cause the mavs already have 2 great centers in there line up. I think we need both these players.

Raymond Lyons

Thanks bro 🙏🏻😁

Calum Stapleton

Starting to feel like the 2022 Warriors. I hate that Klay had to leave.. but I dont feel like its a cloud on this roster. We have a bunch of high energy athletes who are about to knock the door of their prime or already in it. And we have about 7 guys who can handle the ball and score. Super promising. Im super glad that Paul George and Lauri trade fell through. Push comes to shove... we have a shitload of assets that we can use to go big fish hunting by the deadline. OR we might be good enough as is to make a run. Either way im excited

Ballin Forever

😂 uncle alch on Steph’s head about those shoes. Great game and breakdown. I can’t wait till the season start man

Dangelo Paige

Thanks unc

Durant F

I’m not familiar with Patreon as an app so it might not be possible but Alch should add some kind of ongoing group chat through his Patreon.

Mason Hornick

Yessir!

Athletic Alchemy

Love this team man. Thanks for another one Alch

sleeve nash

I was watching last night and as soon as Steph’s shoe came off I was thinking about what you’d have to say today about it🤣
