Warriors vs Rockets GM-6

tri-podz, slowpoint...chuckle. keep 'em coming. kuminga's shooting form looks awkward. like, it isn't natural to him. maybe the release timing. i cringe each time podz goes down with one of his wildman efforts.

Robert Mutch

didn’t we spend our FRP to get lindy? he would be front running roty if he was actually a rookie

yungtaco

I'm rooting for JK. I want it to work out so bad

Mats Lien

I hope this is the season Kerr utilizes mismatches. He alluded to it in his post game press conference that the staff needs to do a better job of recognizing switches and taking advantage of mismatches.

Jimmy Ji

JK has mamba mentality.

Jimmy Ji

They're both slow of foot with low verticals and not primary 3 point threats, so in other words, they won't space the floor either horizontally OR vertically. You can talk all you want about high IQ, but at the end of the day this is a sport, and athleticism and pure shooting skill matters. I'm hoping we don't see Kerr put them together again. It should be Draymond OR SlowMo + Looney OR TJD at the 4 & 5 if he wants a larger lineup out there. If we need pure physicality in the paint, Draymond and/or TJD.

Neal X

He absolutely fits the Warriors, he just needs to play consistent D. Not AMAZING D, just consistent. Pay attention. Box out. Stay in front. I also think he WILL eventually start doing those things. Kuminga keeps this team from becoming the 2018 Rockets, doing nothing but chucking threes and lobs.

Neal X

Strange thing: Draymond and Slow Mo cannot co-exist, just don’t know why. Both have good IQ, but they don’t do well together. Any idea?

Natto Santo

Buddy Hield is the best signing since OPJ. I guess it's time for you to apologize for all the gum jokes you made about him😁

Qiushi Hu

Yesterday i finally saw the sacred fire in JK and i am sold, he proved to me that he is no smoke... so i will take him out of my trade machine and nurture him... he will give the team titles, he is so quick that he can even run away with sloppy drible and make the rival team looks like a clown while he is getting the bucket... man what a comeback for him

Claudio Cesar Esteffan Sepulveda

I don't think there's anyone to blame for the collapse of the lead in the 4th. The Rockets were playing so hard and I think it only natural to turn the jets off a bit when you're up by that much in the 3rd. Between JK, Podz, TJD and Moody the youth are fearless and look to be viable for future closing lineup options. We need to give Kerr a break because when a game or lead is lost there will always be the question of why didn't he play (fill in the blank) more. Its going to be the peril of a 12+ man rotation. We'll have more of a barometer Once we breakdown the Cavs, C's and Thunder Games.

Nos Dollas

That's a really good point - you want Buddy's shooting to build a lead, but he's a liability when you're trying to hold a lead. It's just bad coaching - a big part of the reason Houston's defense got stingy is they benched their defensive liabilities (Green and Sengun). If we had done the same, it would have turned into a proper rock fight, which ain't pretty but helps the team that's up 20.

Mike Peterson

Fundamentals not just talk like many others out there. Logic and sense!

Dale Happy Knowles

I mean, did you even watch the breakdown? Last 35 seconds: bricked 2 FT, threw the ball away on an inbound and committed a dumb unnecessary foul. He was awful through the second half, but that was a shaqtin-worthy sequence in clutch time.

Mike Peterson

Not me! What he has as strengths you can't teach. What he has a weakness don't matter right now but he can improve them in time.

Dale Happy Knowles

So I was right in thinking Dray looked like hot garbage? And that was just from the highlights...

Neal X

That horrid pass, bad defensive rotation to give them a foul and foul out. Final 8 seconds just makes it magnified.

Anthony Berry

He’s one of our most important injury risks at this point lol

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

That’s where I would’ve liked to see more Moody and Kuminga

Edy

Kerr almost threw this away by benching Moody and TJD. Especially while they were starting to show an effective little two-man game! I want to see more of them together. But all in all, a good outcome since we all (especially Kerr) got to see a Simba takeover. I know everybody's got him in the trade machine, but you saw last night why I don't want to trade him. Alc called it early - not many guys with that athleticism AND the takeover gene. He doesn't fit the Warriors right now but he has superstar upside. Imagine how scary he would be on another Western Conference team. There's a lot of fake superstars in this league, but almost every one has a glaring un-fixable flaw in his game - bad defense, too small, too injury prone, not aggressive enough. JK has some iffy habits but they're ones you can live with if you have complementary pieces (for example high effort rebounding from your guards).

Mike Peterson

preach

Naji Zouhari

The problem is that the shot did fall 2/2 and he’s shooting 50% so far for the season

Abud Abualia

overbenching moody was a disaster. they needed exactly his aggression in the second half and he was shooting lights out.

B Master

I wondered how close to the court Pat Lacrosses was getting for true point minutes, but do they pick up another FA in this role? Happy for JK to shine in his role, best iso option for a bucket w/o Steph. Spot on with simply getting ball up the court against pressure…looked high schoolish for lack of adjustments, screens. When Buddy was targeted for comeback, seems Moody has to get minutes.

Chip Tingle

Commentary is invaluable. I don't notice half the stuff Alc does. Best value on Patreon

Thomas Carroll

Bro I am a BIG TIME slomo fan lmaaoo the .5x euro I CANT

Thomas Carroll

I know JK isn't the most fluid looking player but he's still mad athletic. Look at that turnaround baseline J to start overtime. That's a CRAZY shot to hit

Thomas Carroll

Wiggins having a late peak in his career is awesome. Him being excited to get fouled tho is how you get injured especially when you're squishy like he is I'm just saying that worries me a bit

Thomas Carroll

Why Dray? Hou are beast when they attack.

Dale Happy Knowles

man where TF were Moody's minutes in the 4th? Put him in for one of the tired old guys after the lead gets cut in half! Also, yeah Kuminga and Buddy have something going - was obvious at the game I attended: off-camera lots of checking in with each other.

Daniel Fries

In a way I wish we would have lost because it would have been on Draymond screwing up big time, but we won and likely somehow it would have been blamed on JK, glad he shuts all of them up with this. Also love that JK is the spacing problem in all the lineups when Dray, Loon, Slo Mo, TJD are one the floor, do any of those guys have a better POST game than him. One shot to win the game on the square who you want taking the shot of those 5?

Anthony Berry

This was 3 gms in 1. If I recall correctly, 1. With TJD (exit 6.29s left 3rd Qtr with 27 pt lead) 2. Without TJD (rest of regular play with lead shrunk to zero pts even with Dray foul out.) 3. Release the Leopard (JK) with 4 big defenders lineup and they were unstoppable (OT) Hmmm!

Dale Happy Knowles

Facts.. his intensity is def rubbing off on this team. We missed tht when Mike brown left

Ballin Forever

I hear you… Kuminga is still the most vital young player we have. his transition buckets and in the paint scoring Moses Moody couldn’t replicate if he tried… I understand Moses can shoot and he’s an okay defender, but when the shot ain’t dropping I’d rather have Kuminga out there…

Nsikan Usen

The lineups that killed me were the ones that were just Buddy surrounded by a bunch of defenders & facilitators.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

Exactly the games you need to win, not just for the standings but to learn to execute under pressure. Feels like they lost at least 7-10 similar games each of the last two seasons. Build late-game confidence early in the season and keep racking up clutch wins. Vibes, culture, coaching... all incredibly essential. This team's 3pt shooting stats are insane: Wig 57%, Hield 52%, Moody 52%, Dray 47%, Lindy 42%, Steph 41%, and finally... TEAM-WIDE 40% while 4th in the league in 3PA. Great to see, but also makes me a little nervous for the law of averages to play out...

thomas

Yup two key points while you watch this is why that stagnant lineup without Wiggs and JK and what was GP doing in there instead of Moses. But love figuring these things out and getting the win. Alpha Predator JK in the house. Alc you identified this trait early on. So glad to have the season under way with all of these weapons

Jim

was having flashbacks of last season during that rockets comeback. I started twitching a lil bit

Mikey H

Even if we want to trade for a star its in our best interest to see if Kuminga is a star in the making as that will be the only way we beat Huston, OKC, or other teams for a Giannis

Diego

This isn't about the money, we cant find out if Kuminga is that guy or not if he doesn't get the opportunity to play that role on this team at all. We have seen flashes of it but Kerr does not allow Kuminga to play through any mistakes long enough to begin to develop further.

Diego

Jerry stackhouse be jumping up and down on that bench. Vibes are immaculate right now. And they seem very sustainable.

yan't get right

Oh, and I better hear they each had to make 500 free throws after such poor shooting from the line

Edy

GSW mgmt don't want to commit that kind of money without being sure a finals appearance. The challenge is most believe getting a superstar besides Curry dies that. What wins Championships is intangibles - chemistry, grit, instinct, clutch play etc. Things you can't measure. KD drama should be enough evidence for GSW to avoid this path and stick to the draft for the elite players and FA for compatible vet fillers.

Dale Happy Knowles

Podski is a baller who connects everyone as does Dray. Fundamental!

Dale Happy Knowles

He was the only one scoring late in forth and he is a solid defender who has studied his assignment.

Alex Kay

Kerr forgot about Moody again. No one was making shots for a quarter and a half and he keep doubling down on Loon and Anderson, Anderson and green and gp2, these combos that would only work offensively if Curry was there. I think if Kerr remember Moody exist, we could have hit some shot to disrupt rockets momentum

Viet Huy Vu

Considering two guys in Curry and Melton, who will get a significant percentage of the backcourt minutes when healthy - only via trade that sends out one of the guards "in front of" Mood will he find more minutes.

Stevie Ray

Since 2017 is wild

Static2Fresh

yaow jemski better be careful. doods gotta ease up on his body if he wants to last in this league. Also, he's an awful shooter. Hes gotta link up w some shooting coaches or steph & buddy.

Mikey H

It's self-harm: Loon and TJ-D were playing great minutes - we go into the 4th playing micro ball with 3 fucking guards and Dray at the 5 - thought this would be a bigger point driven home. The concept that Podz + Dray must be a part of the closing 5 is narrative based. Draymond Green may be an All-Defensive 1st team player...but he ain't that as a closing Center next to 3 guards - don't care how big people pretend GPII plays. When did we seperate "defense" and the ability to defensive rebound? Dray is a below average defensive rebounder against plus athletic bigs - especially the ones that will be present in high level situations in the post-season.

Stevie Ray

As much as I understand this, even when he wasn't coming off an injury, this isn't new. This happens often. He does not drive to the basket like Kuminga does, and often times, the ref bails him out of a turnover or a bad drive with a questionable call.

Irvin Mugo

Need to find Moody some minutes....some of those guys didn't need to be out there as much as they were especially while lead was evaporating....switch the lineups and use the rest of the bench.

James Bosstel

Yeah watching the highlights I was wondering why I saw so little of Trayce in this game, so much so I was worried he'd gotten injured, but then I saw him on the bench... This is on Kerr for not finding a way to jump start his offense by running some plays and putting the right guys in, and I'm not one who likes to jump on the "blame Kerr" train. As for JK, for all his imperfections, he has the Mamba Mentality, which is so important in situations that would demoralize other personalities, whereas he just gets that much more determined to get his.

Neal X

It's narratives that somehow his presence on the floor automatically creates positive +/- results. The assumption that he is undoubtedly one of our top 5 players and must be closing will be detrimental to this squad come playoff time if it is not addressed.

Stevie Ray

The Immaculate Vibes Kartel survives another game!! I was in the arena with the fam for this one. Still rising high. ps Ppl behind me were yelling “max player!” when JK was taking free throws. Solid troll while it lasted.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

I was thinking the same thing about Wiggs and Kuminga needing to go straight at Eason until he fouls out, but it never happened.

Dr. Sanjin

wiggins was coming off an injury specially to the back, it makes sense to give him some leeway.

Ronit Gavaskar

Also felt like 1st half Wiggs was way more amped than 3rd quarter Wiggs, who was sleepwalking for a good portion of the 2nd half offensively.

Stevie Ray

Meanwhile, Podz’ leash is so long, I don’t think there is one.

BruceWayne

Draymond and Podz fouling out saved that game. Draymond was poor defensively in the 4th, and Podz was a combination of trying to play hero ball while not being able to deal with the length and pressure of Amen. Kerr has a deep bench, he needs to use it, instead of doubling down on his preferred players and style.

BruceWayne

Now will Kerr remember this… pressure defense requires our athletes to be on the floor - JK, Wiggs, MOODY… and Melton when he is healthy. And this persistent lack of trust with Trayce is just silly

Jello Smooth

Your point about TJD was valid. When he was taken out the game in the 2nd half we still had a 28 point lead. He never returned... the lead evaporated. We needed his rebounding and physical play. Also Eason had 5 fouls early, and no one targeted him for the 6th? Why? He was their heart and soul during the comeback. I just don't understand what Kerr was thinking. Too many missed opportunities. Yes we won, but it could've been less stressful if we were smarter...

Tail0rmade

🙏🏿 This is helpful. I’m def one of those Warriors-only fans.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

First off, that was a roller coaster of emotions. Second, Moody should’ve been playing more, especially during the first 4 minutes of the fourth. I would’ve liked to see them sub Buddy out and put Moody in when it was back and forth in the fourth quarter. Spacing would’ve been weird, but the second half shooting wasn’t great anyway, partially due to how they were hounding the shooters, like Buddy, and not giving them any daylight. Remove the weak link on defense. And like you said, Moody thrives in grenade scenarios. Third, JK should’ve been in the game much more in the fourth. It’s a good matchup for him and it was evident early in the game. It was a tough win, but that’s good since it showed that they can deal with close games, even without Steph and on the road.

Edy

Wiggins is where he’ll always be, Kuminga can still grow, so point out everything, at least that’s how I’d coach him, just don’t yank him out of games for it he needs the reps

Sarcasm 360

Kuminga has had to prove himeself multiple times just for his leash to be pulled everytime Kerr sees an opportunity. Great game but he has to keep doing this and really force Kerr to understand he is who he thinks he is as many times as it takes.

Diego

Podz couldn’t deal with ball pressure

Kevin Chan

Damn near had a heart attack this game, thank you JK bailed us out big time

Old Runner

JK maybe doing just a little to silence the general populace of r/warriors ?

G 2tha P

Amazing to see simba bring it home like that. That fade was nasty.

Kenny Bobby

Could anyone explain to me why Podz have so many mins? The way he always keep the ball in his hand and dribble to the crowd really bothers me....

hoop4life

I have a question Alc? Why do we not criticize Wiggins for plays like he did to start the highlights of the second half, but everything Kuminga does is judged even though he is so young?

Irvin Mugo

For those who only have the time to watch Warriors' basketball -- this was a real win. This Rockets team isn't yet a contender, but could easily make the playoffs. And J-Green has been cooking people. Our defense seems to be something special.

Stevie Ray

Podz on offense hunting his shot. 💀 Podz on offense heads up and passing. 👍 Podz in the post scoring. Fool’s gold.

BruceWayne

Over these last two games I’m starting to coin these lineups of Kerr’s as “Ego Lineups,” as they don’t have any strengths yet Kerr continues to put them on the floor. For a guy who talks so much about combinations and not finding Moody or Kuminga minutes because of them, he sure easily throws these odd lineups on the floor with no hesitation, and it’s not like any one player has been bad to allow these runs. In other news, Pods Kuminga pick and rolls please, idk why I just think it would work.

Sarcasm 360

They finally got you an overtime game haha looking forward to this one Alc
