This is why I love watching the younger players cook. Their lack of experience means that all things are possible, so they give 1000%. Even if they don’t win or it doesn’t look as pretty, I’m more interested in watching passionate basketball play. :: The other thing I’m interested in watching is how quickly the younger players improve because that tells us what the team may be capable of. Sure Lindy’s shot isn’t falling, but he learned a lot from that stretch where he started, so he’s made some adjustments and worked on some things since then and you can see it in his defense. He’s spent a lot of career working hard to get here, if he can get more minutes on the floor, he can accelerate in his performance faster. Moody doesn’t get a lot of opportunity, but I love what he does with what he is given. That’s really all you can ask for from any young player when they don’t seem to be actively being developed. Trayce is starting to show intensity when he plays. Trayce, Kuminga, and even Lindy’s performances all confirm what I’ve been thinking about how the coaches manage this team: they have been so busy trying to force these young players into their system that they have overlooked each player’s specific contribution and clipped their wings, so to speak. The only player who didn’t suffer from this until this year was Podz, and everyone hated him for it. I have always looked at Podz’s confidence as a good thing, but only because he’s highly intelligent and adaptable, so he’s usually correct in his assessment and actions. But it’s clear that it’s vital for him to have that to be successful on this team because otherwise the coaches can cause extensive damage to you as a young player. :: I don’t know exactly what the coaching issues are on this team, but they seem to be a combination of lack of adequate training and development for younger players, poor communication with the younger players, and over-coaching in an effort to control exactly how everyone plays. All of this is the result of being used to coaching older players and just being lazy and thoughtless about how you get a younger player to that same level, so you can then talk to that player with the same shorthand that you do the older players. Kuminga and Moody have both made comments in the past about how they were told something vs how they understood something. It’s a shame that an organization as “classy” as the Warriors who constantly have their coaching staff “poached” by the rest of the league doesn’t seem to have a predictable path of success for their rookies, etc.

Irritated Inanimate

Yep you’re absolutely right. Poole had a longer leash and that’s why he looked like he was on an all star trajectory with us. But Ive gave in and Kerr is simply worth more than everyone not named Steph, Dray, and probably Kuminga now. If he goes then we might as well trade steph and Dray and Im not ready for that just yet. So I think it’s best to get players willing to buy in and help now. Podz has bought in day 1. Moody has to go because I feel like the relationship is severed

Offtopic K

right thats the question with Mood.. how much of this because he doesn't know when he opportunists are coming

Athletic Alchemy

haha appreciate you! I have been doing this a long time, im in it for the long haul

Athletic Alchemy

You know what helps a young player orient more to the "team" and less to "I gotta get mine" (IGGM)? Confidence that you'll see the floor regularly. Kerr has destroyed that for everyone not named Steph, Dray, or Podz. A young player worried about impressing scouts elsewhere will tend to focus more on IGGM. This is the cost of Kerr's three years of yanking players in and out of the line-up, playing Klay over Moody even when Moody was hot and Klay was a brick-laying turnstile, sitting JK for entire games when Wigs was horrible, and so forth.

Point Gawd

Yo Alch, continued gratitude and admiration! Amidst so much lesser, hacky competition, I always look forward to all you bring to this! Hopefully you and the better Podz can survive and thrive, and the CYO/AAU bitch/moan creators can be ignored. Substance/humor/uniqueness!!!

Chip Tingle

All the fan BS aside, Zu would be a welcome heavy hitter 5 for Dubs against the best in the league. Dray’s heavy minutes days at 5 continue to dial downward. Great to see TJD steady improvement.

Chip Tingle

That’s a great explanation of why buddy goes through slumps the way he does. The only pushback Ill give is that buddy is a Vet at this point and should know his body better than anyone. Him being one if the great shooters of this era should’ve figured out ways to conserve his energy. Kerr was also a great shooter in his day so I would like to guess that both of them know how to helping slumping shooters. As for moody, if he makes these types of plays in practice then I can see why he gets looked over in lineups. I wish these young guys had a longer leash but we’re not rebuilding yet. Kerr doesn’t like moody so I’d say it’s better to trade him because he is too good to be a bench warmer

Offtopic K

Broadcasters vs GM’s & coaches? I realize the lines get blurry.

Chip Tingle

Sorry, but Buddy is routinely targeted on D, and he knows it, is truly working thru this to stay on the court. It’s not a choice of one or the other end for him. I’m betting he’s gonna dial it back up to contribute more. They need him. While I’m rooting for Moses personally, he’s shown so much more “gotta get mine” moments that make it tougher to see him cracking thru for bigger minutes. But the direct Mo vs Podz minutes fans social media chit needs to stop. Two radically different roles, skill sets.

Chip Tingle

@Chaz G But they can’t use Moody’s full salary in a trade until after this season, per the new CBA. That’s what’s so puzzling about giving him the extension when Steve pretty much hates playing him. Maybe they felt it was better than getting nothing for him as a RFA, but it locks them into keeping his ass around this season.

deb m.

Lol! When you get disrespected, dismissed and have you head played with by Kerr more times than your minutes, it's a wonder you can do anything right. I get all the tinkering Kerr does each year before the new year to learn match ups to exploit in the play offs, but without a "Klay," GSW just don't have sufficient shooting pyschos to block out Mad Scientist Kerr antics. Buddy is too nice and plays too many minutes for as hard as he plays to have legs to shoot when it counts the most. Buddy is a pure mechanical shooter and when his alignment is 1° off, his efficiency drops off exponentially with each degree. Look at his feet when he misses compared to swishing. That's why he goes into slumps. Coaches love his hustle but don't factor in shooters can't shoot when their legs go. If I was a betting man, I would take Buddy has played double the effective minutes than the next highest regular minutes because of his Charlie hustle no give up style. I really dont know why the coaches can't see this and make the adjustment. When his legs are stressed, his one on one defence becomes trash because he can't shift or stop/start as he did when Kerr was praising his playback the beginning of the season. How had isbit to see 👀

Dale Happy Knowles

JK did the same with another on the will mill dunk

Dale Happy Knowles

You may be right that JK lacks first option potential, but play slowing down in the playoffs can't be one of the reasons. JK's playing style of getting to the rim is built for when play slows down.

Point Gawd

The narrative that you have to pick a side. The team has to pick a side, not me. I’m truly conflicted.

Athletic Alchemy

What narratives? I was reacting to a remark that came from the breakdown. There's no point in trying to "both sides" the Kuminga problem this coach has. Pick a lane. We either keep searching for new roleplayers to fit the old Curry/Backpack offense next season. Or try to make the team better and fucking change things.

Thomas Ogas

I laughed out loud during the game when Podz had his hands out during that fast break with Moody. (The one you showed during your vid). There was nooooo way Moody was passing that shit lol

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

Yep Ive been with you on the Podz train. Moody may be more skilled in a vacuum but the intangibles are night and day difference. I know you’re not a fan of Poole. But I think we’d be a couple games better if he was playing the Moody minutes in these situations. At least we know Poole can put the ball in the basket consistently

Offtopic K

I had that in the notes too! I been distracted with family all home. But you right it was a selfish look at me play. Mood just not very good at Basketball if we being honest

Athletic Alchemy

I wish you put in that dumb play that moody made in crunch time. He tried to dunk on clippers bigs. Im ready for bro to go. The Moody over Podz fans have been quiet lately.

Offtopic K

Alch’s discord? no

Im curious what the GMs around the league think about kuminga because every time I watch other teams broadcasting they seem to think very highly of him as far as what he could be.

Diego

I thought Podz was the reason for the 4th quarter comeback I think he was the only player than didn't give up after the 3rd. Its starting to look like if you may have to move Dennis because I thought Kuminga looked better at running the offense. I think there will be a second trade made before they really decide to go all in for a star. GP2 and Slow mo can still be packaged with Moody and picks for a Vuc or Cam. Or ur gonna have to trade Dennis Wiggs and Kuminga for a star.

Diego

So they could use his salary to help get a high salary player without giving up up they important players.

Chaz G

Its a trade that Kerr would love and puts Kuminga in a better position to succeed, I didn't want him to leave but I think its getting to a point that is better for both parties. I doubt it would make that big of a difference for us because looking for the new Andrew Bougut makes no sense when Draymond gonna be the one playing that role anyways

Diego

Don’t get caught up in narratives. I have been supporting JK. Did you miss the part where I said he can clearly be a #2? It doesn’t have to be black and white, I like what I’m seeing from Jk and believe in his talent. But if it’s not going to work out and they are going to move him. Zu is a soon to be AS center in his prime who could play with Steph and Dray.

Athletic Alchemy

Open question: does anyone know why they agreed to pay Moody $13mn/yr? I mean, they must have talked with Steve etc about it. Who was in favor of that offer and why? Is it a Klutch thing?

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

Sheesh

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

Alch. You should have gone back and re-recorded that absolutely idiotic "take" about trading Kuminga for Zubac. That's inexcusable. You're better than that. The only guy on this team who is capable of being an actual Second Option is Kuminga. That's it. And there ain't no mystery trade player coming in for spare-change-assets. I'm so tired of the lazy haters who proclaim that if a 22yr old gifted player ISN'T PERFECT AT EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW then he will never be perfect and we should fucking trade him for a (flavor of the week) and just keep doing the same washed up offense with past-their-prime players who can't sustain, because it GOT US 4 RINGS! The insanity needs to stop.

Thomas Ogas

The FO hasn’t been indecisive at all. They’ve decided on the future. I think their strategy is to milk the Steph cow while investing in the future. Steph gets to play it out on his terms - Draymond, Kerr, lineups, Warrior for life. Lacob gets to feel like he’s protecting the franchise. If you assume that’s the strategy, it explains a lot of their weird decisions and their strange inability to get any trade that involves either the youth or a 1st over the finish line.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

We lost in the 3rd because Kerr didn’t make the obvious halftime adjustment of swapping in JK for Slomo.

BruceWayne

If we decide we are going young and there are no expectations im all in and ready. But if we continue to be subpar and claim we are trying to win a chip with this team and Kerr being a complete air head i dont know how much of this i can watch. I am still not understanding why a game like this is not a game we bring Post out and see what he can give us! I am sure he needs to put on some more muscle but to give Steph, Kuminga and Wiggins a pick and pop big would change everything for the team

Kahlil Baker

A team a player is drafted to can define the trajectory of their career. If Anthony Edwards had been drafted by the Warriors, he might have ended up in a similar position as Jonathan Kuminga. Steve Kerr even called Edwards lazy during FIBA. I can't imagine the horrible rep Edwards would have developed if Kerr called him this as a rookie. If Klay wasn't injured, Poole would not have become the 120 million dollar man that he did. He would have never had the opportunity to develop and to showcase his skills. Kuminga has never had this opportunity on the Warriors. It just seems like stubbornness or pride that they haven't traded him. He is wasted on this team. And they are wasting a spot which could go to someone who would fit the role they want better than Kuminga.

Goku44

I dont know how to think. If this was Presti running the organization i would be happy with whatever he did, trade Step or the rest of the team. But this management is unproven. Seems to me though that Presti trades and drafts for the future. Can we trade for Presti?

Tyler Durden

Showcasing Gui for the upcoming trade. Help us ObiWan Dunleavy, you're our only hope.

Neal X

I’m shocked that so many in DubNation think that the Warriors might trade Kuminga. For years, the FO has been hesitant to trade JK because of two things 1) they think Steph is too old to risk the future for & 2) they think JK might be a star after Steph. If that’s how they felt this summer, how do they feel now after seeing Steph slow down and JK repeatedly shine when on his own??

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

I just don't get Kerr's lineups, the only one that seemed obvious was trying to match Zubac with Trayce. Wish the young guns had better fundamentals but at least they hustled, enjoyed that.

John Z

I was watching old games since about 3 am today and man this team just isn’t where it should have been after the chip, Poole, Kuminga, DDV, Klay to an extent. The most relevant now is Kuminga, I knew this before I even found this channel, his mean streak, the mentality, the cutting, that 14-14 game, but the two things that stood out were his defensive plays, and that early propensity to hit timely threes. This kid is not where he should be and it’s not his fault.

Sarcasm 360

I’m not going to pretend like I don’t know why you just accused me of that, but I’m going to tell you to move along

Sarcasm 360

Indecisiveness of Front office and Coaching, cost us, a 2nd pick, Poole,, and Klay. We are doomed to fail, Kerr will not be fired, Donkey will stay, and we just will have another disappointing season. At this point, I don’t care if they trade chef, this team is sad to watch. I rather save my time to watch some music videos or do something else than watching basketball. NBA is ruined by refs, GSW is ruined by Draymond and front office.

Natto Santo

You the dude that was claiming Kerr is a racist?

James arnoth

Kerr didn’t make the obvious halftime adjustment of starting JK, so he played him almost 18 minutes straight instead.

BruceWayne

Kuminga wanted this game so damn bad, got sold by everyone from his coach to his teammates not named Pods especially the vets and putting Heild back in late. Players with that mentality to keep going despite things not going their way are way too rare for Steve to be deliberately trying to be one of the things going against him.

Sarcasm 360

Kerr threw the towel in when he subbed in Gui. That was inexcusable. Subbing in Hield broke our press and he wasn’t hitting anyway. Not sure why Kerr didn’t go with Wiggs or Schröder.

BruceWayne

Im a celtics fan, and yall looked like contenders the last time they played at TD, i dont think that Kuminga is somebody thats got first option potential in the future due to the fact that in the playoffs the game slows down and i just cant see him creating offense. 35 million is a lot for him IMO.

Luis Javier Baez Estevez

It looked to me like we lost in the 3rd with Buddy, there was a string of plays that he threw up all over. I feel like he's a sweater you buy on Temu, looks great the first time you wear it...but falls apart in the wash. But it was incredibly satisfying to watch the guys annoy Harden!

Allison Hendrix

JK was absolutely incredible, breathtaking...and the first thing we say is, "ooh now he's a good trade asset." My goodness

Irvin Mugo

Oooh I just had to delete a crazy rant comment I was gonna post. Are we seriously still talking about trading JK after this game....for Zubac. Look, I'll happily eat my words, but unless we get a superstar better than Steph who will be the new focus, this team cannot win with a trade like that. Honestly, even if we did get an Antman, or a Jokic, Steve Kerr's trash motion offense would still find a way to say Ant doesn't fit the mold of this team.

Irvin Mugo

Im thinking the angles thing is something that this organization teaches in some manner. Because I’ve seen sophomore Kuminga guard BI, CJ, SGA, Julius Randle, put up resistance against Embiid, Kat, and Giannis, how does he show these flashes of not just 1-5 guarding, but competing so aggressively and end up with the lapses he has now? I just don’t believe it’s possible to go backwards with him if you’re making a genuine effort as his coach, and is it really their IQ or the angles thing because how did that develop with not just two but 4 young guys with Wisemen and Poole ALSO having that tendency NOT only with guarding but contesting in a funny manner as well.

Sarcasm 360

lot of lefties have guarded him tho.. I imagine he studied his game as a like size lefty

Athletic Alchemy

Pods dominate hand sits in Hardens step back shot pocket he can’t get it off as well

Sarcasm 360

it forced me into it, so then I bought the 4k package to see if it would look better. Then it let me switch to HD after.

Athletic Alchemy

I’ve kinda had it here, the only thing Steve Kerr has been successful at so far is ruining Kuminga as an asset. It cannot be more clear that you DNP Kyle because you cannot go back to benching Kuminga because it’s too obvious a malpractice, however you refuse to let him start despite having no reason to be against his past starting contributions, for someone who experiments and is “still experimenting”it is very clear there are some that you keep trying and one other that you refuse to continue completely independent of its success or lack there of. I need him traded yesterday I’m not finna have him being passive because Kerr a fool trying to kneecap all of us because he’s spent two years trying to be right against the front office but THIS one is making him look stupid anyway.

Sarcasm 360

I tried watching in 4k too and it immediately looked so weird to me. Glad to know I am not alone
