Yeah my gf and I were trying to get tickets to go to one of the days of the all star weekend.. but the prices were extremely unreasonable. Basically totally priced us out... so yeah.. didn't get to go unfortunately. It also said on the various selling portals that cheaper tickets were sold out.. so only the expensive ones were left. How much of that was a lie.. who knows.

I feel like with Draymond not being able to bring it night to night and impose his will over the youngsters, him shitting on the rising stars almost felt like a power move, like oh look at me I’m draymond I can shit on y’all on national tv and get away with it type of shit. Even though I’m not an all star anymore I’m a guy that demands attention. I’m honestly just ready for him to go away at this point lol. And please no head coach Draymond, we already don’t get any calls 😂

dray needs to stfu for once, bro thinks he in the ufc or wwe. I thought the games were pretty fun except for the last main one lol, score only to 40 + a halftime show when the score was 11-1, energy was gone after that and it turned into a exhibition match. the 3pt competition was interesting to watch, so many 'bad' inconsistent shooting forms, seemed like pure luck some went in.

Vince is by far the best dunker and it’s not even close. Even crazier that most of his most impressive ones were in game. Zach and Aaron had hops but nothing like vc

Hey Alch, with Kuminga’s injury taking so long, do you remember the game where he got hurt? Remember before he rolled the ankle he had another scary fall where it looked like he could have hurt his knee or something? U think that is playing into this long time table??

Just listening to Bill Simmons describe the ‘fix’ I think could work - adding stakes that matter, specifically for home court. I don’t watch baseball, not sure why that matters.. injuries aren’t really a huge concern for me, reduce the schedule or eliminate the cup; both of which mean less to me and the popularity of the league. They could try it for one year and see how it goes, they’ve tried enough other Ideas. Warriors for the title!

Remember, in MLB All-Star games players play maybe one inning, perhaps only 1 at-bat, and its a (largely) non-contact sport. In NBA All-Star games every possession there's chance of multiple collisions, and players play a lot more than 11% of the game (11% of an NBA game would be only 5.5 minutes--if 10 players on a team each played 5.5 minutes that's only 55 minutes playing time, and you have to have 5*48=240 on-court minutes from a team for them to put 5 players on the court). So there would be considerably more exposure to injury. . . . That said, I bet very few NBA All-Stars would "play hard" and thus risk injury, risk their next contract, just so a conference rival can have home court advantage in the Finals. So, I don't even think the "stakes" would work, it'd just add more unfairness to the Finals. As you say, there's already too much of that with the relatively soft schedule East Coast teams have. . . . But, as always, we can agree to disagree. :-) And I think we can agree, we can now look forward to Warriors playing in games that count. YAY!

Well it wouldn’t be an exhibition game if it actually meant something to the whole nba but it’s ok if you think it’s best as it is! I think it would be better if it had real meaning and impact instead of being a gimmick. If they get injured playing for something with meaning and not a gimmicky exhibition it would be better. Nobody tries during the current exhibition but presumably they can still get injured.

What's so sacred about the All-Star EXHIBITION game that injecting unfairness into the pursuit of titles is "okay"? How would you feel about the best players playing hard during an EXHIBITION game, one or more getting injured (like Steph, say), and missing the rest of the season--or even ending their career? Who wants to see Apollo Creed killed during an EXHIBITION?!? ;-) It doesn't seem worth it to me. And it looks like the NBA, NHL, and NFL agree, because they haven't adopted this baseball gimmick, and even MLB stopped doing it 9 years ago.

There’s no saying the west would have won the ASG just because one or two players were not available. I don’t necessarily think it’s better for example if an eastern team finishes with the best record, having played mostly east teams, including many tanking teams, that they have home court advantage over the best west team in the finals - when the west team was in a harder conference playing tougher opponents.. in your scenario the dubs would still have home court all the way through the west, which is still a sizeable advantage. I guess in my mind it would be worth whatever perceived ‘unfairness’ the change created to ensure that the best players play hard against each other, to win something they should all want.. the ASG could be amazing!

Eh I enjoyed Mac in the dunk contest, it's kind of been about the gimmicks for 20 years it feels like. Definitely agree any professional dunker would win but they aren't pros doing it, not having recognizable people compete is the bigger problem. Lebron hasn't done one and he's one of the most prolific dunkers of all time.

Dray's showing the teeth of an old dawg and his bite is getting nastier. You're right that he is trying to set himself up as the new Chuck, and you're also right that he's too spiteful in his vibe to make his commentary entertaining with the edge.
No way KD is coming back to a team with a dude that called him a straight up bitch multiple times in front of millions. A trio of KD, Steph and JB would be mind blowing, but to borrow a diss from the old JP seconds before that right cross, "number 30 ain't letting go of that expensive backpack."

2025-02-18 04:50:58 +0000 UTC
How would you feel if the Dubs were to have the best record in the league by say 7 games, make the Finals, but have games 1, 2, 5, and 7 (tie-breaker games if home teams win every game) in Boston because Steph and JK had to miss the ASG owing to injuries just before the break? Such a result would be the height of unfairness. It would risk making a travesty of the actual season.

Vince dunks were fire at the time, but don't know how you can deny Aaron Gordon under the legs is the best dunk of all time, and in general his dunks in that round were some of the best, much better than the more "standard" Zach Lavine ones

On the empty seats take, they only had a certain amount even available for purchase. The resell market was dead so i think a majority of tickets were for the big wigs and a bunch of em just didn't show up. They had tickets in the 130 range for every day except Sunday's game.

On point with the takes on Draymond. Appreciate the "greatest defender" blip at the end in case anyone wants to come at you for that, including Draymond himself, lol. Twins: Couple identical twins growing up were close friends. One has clearly more natural athletic talent, but the other one has more alpha nature and methodical approach so over time would be able to beat his twin through focused, consistent practice.

(Apologies for the long post in advance)
Quick note for Uncle Alc: Leonard Miller was in the 2023 draft (the Podz & TJD draft). He was projected to go 1st round, but fell to the 33rd pick (drafted by SA; draft rights traded to Minny). Thought he would have a bigger role by now, but I guess not. Reminds me of a skinny Julius Randle: demands the ball too much and thinks he's the main guy when he isn't.
As for the ASG, like you said I think the Dubs and the Bay Area as a whole did a good job as hosts (favorite moment was Steph & KD returning to Oakland for the ASG practice) but on a national level the presentation was bad. No idea why Kevin Hart had so much screen time (that 20 minute tribute to the TNT guys in the middle of the final game was maddening, especially when they could've done it after the game), but he personified a lot of what I didn't like about Sunday: too much filler and not enough basketball. As for the basketball itself, as long as Steph is showing out, I'm satisfied. They may be onto something with this new format, but it still nowhere perfect. I thought the games on Sunday were fine overall aside from being short and having the usual non defense, and the smaller teams allowed players more time on the court as well since there's only 7-8 guys per team. I thought 40 points to win the game wasn't a bad idea, but the games went by a bit too quickly.
I do think eventually a USA vs World game will happen for the NBA ASG. Especially after what the NHL has done with it's 4 Nations Tournament that's currently going on, where they replaced their usual ASG festivities with a week long mini tournament where four teams (USA, Canada, Finland and Sweden) consisting of top current NHL players that originate from those countries battle to win the whole thing out of national pride. While I don't watch a lot hockey (the Sharks tanking has something to do with it), the highlights from the USA/Canada game this past Saturday were electric: 3 fights in the first 9 seconds fo the game, crowd energized and guys competing for their countries. Just a complete night and day from their usual NHL ASG format, which is not to dissimilar from the NBA's in how apathetic it can be. I can't see the NBA doing a week long tournament, but I think tapping into national pride would make it more exciting, especially after what we just saw with the Olympics.

I don't think it's a coincidence the decline of the dunk contest coincided with the rise of the 3-point shot. Players just aren't trying out new dunks anymore especially during practice. They are more focused on improving their 3-point shot. The game used to be played from the inside-out. Now it is being played outside-in which unfortunately has also lead to a decline in viewership ratings. Vince was a great call, his in-game dunks were spectacular. If anyone hasn't seen them, there are plenty of highlight compilations on YouTube.

No games until Friday 😢.
Not sure we are better off. KD/curry is an amazing team. Curry just needs one more of those guys- that’s why I think he’s better than LeBron.
Also, LeBron isn’t close to Jordan - LeBron has had so much help and has had AD for what 6 years ?! Think of how many Steph would have if he had that help .? That bubble chip doesn’t count, there was zero fans, and this dude said it was the hardest chip ever!? How when your weakest attribute is pressure ? Jordan destroys LeBron in every single category besides passing and rebounding and taking PEDS for 20 years. plus 40 point game in this generation is like 60 point because in the 90’s they average what 85-95 points a game ? Jordan’s playoff scoring is so much better .
Also, I don’t think this generation understands what hand checking did for defense. You could literally put the least athlete dude on elite player and they would stop them if they were in the nba.

I went to the All Star game and it was pretty empty down below. But the biggest issue for me was the stoppages, i felt like we were there for 4 to 5 hours and there definitely was not enough ball being played. We are watching the dancers and dunkers do shit then Kevin Hart then TNT goodbyes. It was just too much, we did not really get to enjoy the game. Steph said in his interview it felt like the game got in the way of saying goodbye to the TNT guys.

On the Amen/Ausur thing...yes Amen is better right now but I remember back when Amen was on the bench not getting playing time last year and Ausur was doing well, people thought he was better. I think they are very similar players with similar ceilings, but the environment Amen is in is better with Ime coming in and nurturing him. Vs Ausur dealing with Monty Williams bullshit. And also Ausur has been injured a lot this year.
