Palestine Action: Direct Action Against the Death Machine

In this powerful episode, we sit down with a frontline activist from Palestine Action, the UK-based direct action network targeting Elbit Systems—the Israeli weapons manufacturer responsible for arming and enabling genocide in Palestine and beyond. We dig into the strategy of physically dismantling the military-industrial complex, the stakes of this fight, and the growing number of political prisoners facing terror charges for their resistance.

Max, from Palestine Action, joins Breht to discuss the organization, the moral responsibility those in the imperial core have toward the victims of imperialism, Palestine Action's tactics and strategy, why they focus on Elbit Systems in particular, the role weapons manufacturers play in the ongoing genocide of Palestinians as well as perpetuating imperialism and colonialism around the planet, The Filton 18 and other political prisoners, the deafening silence and lack of solidarity shown by liberal and mainstream pro-Palestine movements, and much more.

Palestine Action: Direct Action Against the Death Machine

Comments

I've been behind on the podcast, just got around to listening to this episode the other day. Although the term is never used, this was a phenomenal case study of nonviolent direct action (which, yes, sometimes can include property destruction); the value of militancy; and the importance of deploying diversity of tactics, properly understood (crudely summarized: if one tactic/set of tactics fails, try something different). Really great discussion all around.

I fully support their actions, but I do think it's dangerous to demand all the attention of the movement like this. Diversity of tactics is super important, and for lower-bar tactics to be effective, they simply CANNOT openly express solidarity with more radical elements. You can't be out in the mass rallies organizing people who for the first time publicly express their discontent when you're an organization that is in open solidarity with people who have terrorism charges. It puts a certain label on you. Diversity of tactics means understanding this about one another, and this accusatory finger-wagging at more moderate mass movements doesn't help anyone. these movements should be able to work in parallel.
