People Lie/Clients Lie chapter 4

Hot, fresh, and possibly steaming. I haven't even spell checked it yet. I will be editing this and probably adding/making changes, but I've felt super bad about how long it's taken me to get this done. You deserve better, and I'm trying to do better.

That being said, this fought me like crazy and I've rewritten it like four times, which is why it's short. Next up is the big test to see if they're worth keeping as genin, which should be a part of this chapter but you've waited so long I wanted to give you SOMETHING.

Every other project is on hold. Battletech, Magical, ASOIAF, everything. This is the only thing I'm working on for the foreseeable future.

This was a compromise with myself, but it feels more honest. I kept writing various scenes of them meeting, from canon-adjacent buffoonery to dueling banter one-upmanship to crisp, boring matter-of-factness. Nothing felt right. They're too wary of high level ninja bullshit to try buffoonery, boasting is childish, but no one is here to read about competent people being professional. These are traumatized kids and a damaged adult in an objectively insane world. Plus, this is the early days before they've had any chance at all to come together.

Quiet personal fears and outward dickishness is how this goes.

The test is going better than this part did, and should hopefully be out by the end of the week.
