A 45 minute taste of what's to come...
Added 2024-12-25 20:34:31 +0000 UTCHappy Holidays everyone! I know this year I've been mostly quiet on the FamilyJules front and that's because the projects I've chosen to focus on are bigger than anything I've taken on before. I'm so excited to share these with you but everything that I planned this year I completely underestimated the time frame required to pull them off.
I've eluded to the biggest project I've ever taken on for this channel and while that's still very much on the horizon, I shelved it in attempts to continue a tradition of the channel started 10 years ago and I'm happy to announce what it is.
I'm sure many of you have guessed, and it's true. On December 2nd of this month, I begun work on REPLAY 2024: A Metal Tribute to the History of Video Games hoping to chronicle music from 1972 all the way to 2024. This time I have an extremely big idea for it that'll hopefully take the whole idea to it's next level, and the biggest part of that is arrangement style. I really want this medley to be a huge step forward in how I arrange medleys. I changed my process so that I'm not cutting down songs at the inception phase, and instead making broad strokes in arranging by letting each song breathe for as long as I feel it needs to with the hopes to cut it down later.
Last night I finally finished the first pass of arranging, and the current medley arrangement sits at 45 MINUTES LONG. Which is, uh... yeah, too long. This means I still have a lot of work to do on the arrangement.
This put me completely off my hope to release it this month. I've have tirelessly crunched over this every day since the beginning of December, but it's simply too big and not enough time. I really wanted to release it in time but I'm going to take a more Nintendo approach and release it when it's ready and good.
I am giving you guys a sneak peak into the process as thanks for your incredible patience. Here I'm attaching the current state of the medley in MIDI form. It's incredibly long and super rough so please excuse some rough edges. I'm curious to any of you who want to listen to it to let me know what songs you liked, what songs you wish were in it instead, and which parts of the arranging you like or dislike most! It's still in such an early state so everything is changeable.
I hope you enjoy this absolute unit of an arrangement.

The beginning won't make much sense without visual unfortuantely, but imagine Pong as usual with the following games really making use of sound effects rather than music until we get a little bit in. Hope it's still enjoyable!
Thank you so much for your patience and support. I'm incredibly lucky to have you as a supporter and I want you to know that I absolutely don't take it for granted.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! See you all very soon!
-Jules

This is amazing I always love the Replays! Totally fine with 45 minutes too but I know thats a lot of work on your end so understandable for trimming, can't wait to see the visual side, Happy Holidays man!

2024-12-28 18:09:18 +0000 UTCAight, forty five minutes later. What an adventure! Sure didn't feel like 45 minutes, but I love the ideas you've had for it! I think my biggest thing I have comments on is just the fact each song is longer. Part of the fun for me of the first two was the fact that no song felt like it overstays its welcome. Some of the songs in this one did, but part of that is me also not being super familiar with every song you picked. In addition, the visual aspect would help, since for 2010-2024 I couldn't really tell where songs ended and began (but that again is me not being familiar with much past 2007). But regardless, I'm loving what I'm hearing and am excited to hear what the final version is like! Happy Christmas, Jules!

2024-12-25 22:02:20 +0000 UTCOh dear lord! Uh yeah, no that's too long haha. I mean, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is considered one forty-five minute song, but it's split up for a reason. In any case, I'm excited to hear what you did with it this time! (are there easter eggs this time as well? lol) Just something to point though, Jules, the link you attached requires special access so we can't get to it.
