I agree and I don't think there's any other way for time travel to actually make sense other than connected to a particular worldline (maybe your own, or the machine's?), because there is no "absolute" reference frame in the universe so pure "time travel" independent of space wouldn't be well defined. This is one nice thing about the time travel mechanism in "primer" - the machine's world line is the only world line you can time travel along.

2024-11-05 04:54:56 +0000 UTCI've always thought of—and would love a movie that detailed—time travel as time/space travel, not only because of relativistic affects, but from the simple fact that by traveling to another moment in spacetime, you'd very likely miss the planet upon which you'd be traveling to and could NOT return to the moment in spacetime that you traveled from. This is to say nothing of the velocity added due to galactic rotations/perturbations and universal expansion.
