This week I have something a little bit different: a guest video!
This video was produced by Adam Tranter, the Bicycle Mayor for Coventry, in the UK. Coventry holds an important place in the history of the bicycle. It is the city where both the penny-farthing, as well as the safety bicycle - the template for almost all modern bicycles - was invented.
In this short documentary, Adam explains the history of cycling in Coventry, and about the realities of cycling in Coventry today.
Unfortunately I didn't have permission to release this one early to Patreon supporters, so you're seeing it at the same time as everyone else.

My wife has said exactly the same thing. 😂 I'm not sure I like doing it as a Shorts though, as it means the discussion will be even more devoid of facts. I think I'll do a full video about it some day. I want to share the story of how I once fell on the ice in a parking lot and hit my head so bad that I had amnesia (it was a really bad fall). But still, people in Canada would laugh at you if you seriously proposed a "winter walking helmet law." and the same goes for a Dutch cycling helmet law.

On the one hand I think it really deserves a whole video. On the other hand since you don't like the topic too much, you could make a youtube-short out of it. I guess it would go like: "The dutch don't wear helmets because infrastructure makes cycling feel safe and actually be safe. Advocating for helmets and safety gear distracts from creating a safe environment on the road for all people". Fits in one minute if you read it out loud without going in more detail ;)
