Thank You!

Hey everyone,

So my Houston video has done much better than I thought. It's currently at 170K views, which is insane, because after 2 days, my videos are usually at less than 100K views.

This is, by far, my most popular video to date.

I wanted to tell the story of this walk in Houston for a long time, but I could never get to Houston to film it. I ended up finding 4 videographers on CraigsList to film it for me (as well as one very generous viewer, who asked to remain anonymous, who filmed some drone footage for free).

The total cost of all the filming was a little over US$500. Plus far too much time trying to organize it.

That's a lot to spend on a single YouTube video, and the only reason I was able to afford it was because of the support from Patreon supporters like you.

So thanks! I really appreciate it.

There is a YouTube channel "Localia Project", that plays the video of someone else. It is for "commenting", but in reality, he doesn't add any significant remarks. He did this with a few videos of yours, so I am curious if you are aware of this and if he asked for your permission?

YouTube'a algorithm works in mysterious ways now that the upright Dutch bicycle has more views then the garbage video.

“Pocket Neighborhoods”, Chapin describes what he calls the “Popsicle Index” and https://moraicecream.com/news/the-mora-index-for-growing-a-connected-freedom-loving-kid/

Dallas guy. I get it. Loved your STRONGTOWNS podcast. Thanks for being an agent of connection. That is how things get started and how things get done. You plant seeds. Loved the ice cream part of the tale. I can't find the citation now, but once heard a sociology story about an Ice Cream Index of. how safe you felt it was to give a kid money for ice cream and set them loose. That was how I grew up, and agree, that is how you know your town. I've been in Dallas so long , I see ghosts, Thanks for helping them keep telling their stories.

Happy to support your content. I'm promoting your videos to everyone I know, left right and center. Get those viewer numbers up.

This video was great! I'm glad I got a chance to support it :)

I loved seeing those old photos of Houston. Who would believe that any place in USA ever looked like that?

It's good brisket, man.

Not Just Bikes

Perhaps make a spreadsheet of locations and people willing to film and what camera they have? Id be willing to represent my town.

Let's all agree that footage of barbecue put this over the top.

It was so awesome, so well done!! I’m making my staff watch this video and reporting back in our staff meeting on it next week! Also, I will throw it out there, I just bought a drone that does 4k video footage. If it is any value to you to have car infested Utah sprawl drone footage or not so sucky suburb footage, let me know! I would be happy and honored to get you some footage for free if it is of help to any of your future videos.

Keep representing the urban dream brother ✊

I included your videos in several posts in the Forum of Urban Toronto. https://urbantoronto.ca/forum/whats-new/posts/2749439/

Well done, and you deserve every success with this channel. Like many others here, your videos explained so many things about urban design and open my eyes.

Thank you! I've been waiting for the video that I can share around to show *why* I feel so strongly about this to my family and this was perfect. I am living in northern VA, but visiting my in-laws in Ottawa right now and it is so much better. Even in the last few years, the bike infrastructure is greatly improved. We are definitely moving to Toronto or Ottawa once my wife finishes grad school.

I'm not surprised at all, it turned out to be an amazing video, possibly your best yet. Harsh, true, to the point and exceptionally well exemplified. Some conclusions/quotes I'll try to remember for arguments with status quo warriors.

Daniel Wolk

lol. That's crazy. I was only supposed to be making some funny videos about why we moved to the Netherlands. I'm glad the message is getting out anyway! 😁

Not Just Bikes

People in the Transportation Engineering community are coming to me these days asking if I'd seen NJB. Also the bike advocacy community has been a buzz

Amazing! Thanks for telling a bit of behind a scenes :)

Spartak Kagramanyan

As a phoenix resident who grew up biking everywhere your content helped me understand the bs that is our roads. But we're in a unique position where our grid is in mile long blocks. The stroads are a literal grid. I wanna ask the city to reconfigure our already massive roads to accommodate other modes of transit

As a former resident and a bit of a Houston patriot, I now feel like a traitor.

The video was totally worth it

Love watching your vids. I'd enjoy them anyway, but they've helped keep me vaguely sane in this weirdness.

Dave Patey

Same goes for me in San Francisco.

Thank you for your time, i appreciate it. I live in the Miami area if you ever need some footage from here I'll be more than glad to record something for you :)... Of course with no charge.

I expect some epicness from the train video though ;)

Erwin Bierhof

The only way is up so I think a one hour documentary film should be next!

Marne von Z

Hopefully you're having fun as well :-)

Holly Monster

Worth every cent!

Robin Syl

I should warn you that not all of my future videos are going to be this "epic".😂 This one was in the works for 4 months, and I can't do that for every video. But I can make them every so often!

Not Just Bikes

Congrats on the video doing well, your content definitely deserves this kind of audience!

Tiago Bonetti

It's a great video and it immediately replaced the video I share out to my friends to "intro" them to your channel. It previously was "The Ugly, Dangerous, and Inefficient Stroads found all over the US & Canada [ST05]"

You deserve all of the support and more! Your videos have been the catalyst to totally opening my eyes to urban design.

That is a cool bit of behind the scenes knowledge! awesome! And congrats with the successful video
