The question here is when will Butters learn to not trust Eric with ANYTHING?

I think that episode aged brilliantly and is more relevant than ever. The main joke of the indi plot line was really people producing low quality sequels/prequels to established francises to milk them for money. Lucas and Spielberg did it back then, Disney is doing it now. And even with an even worse 5th movie out, Kingdom of the crystal Skull is still an exceptional bad movie today.

Sorry for the late response to this Almas bro. I wanted to set aside time so i could properly read and appreciate the time you put into typing out your thoughts. I've read it twice and completely get where you're coming from. There isn't much i can add on as i've read it from a place of learning something new & i definitely have! I'm amazed at the amount of knowledge you have stored up regarding south park and movies in general. You should definitely consider making youtube videos or video essays. I think they'd be brilliant. again thanks for taking you time to share your thoughts with us. Honestly i greatly appreciate it :D

Before I start, I like to say straight forward: this one of few episodes that either did not aged well or neither intended in the first place. The reasons why I think so is behind Trey's and Matt's feeling to George Lucas and (in lesser extend) Steven Spielberg. They love they works, they are their idols that inspired them to get into filming industry, not afraid to express themselves through passion to all forms of arts. That been said, when Trey and Matt are disagree with Lucas'/Spielberg's decisions - they are roofless in their methods to let everyone know what they thinking about that. I love Star Wars and back in late 1990's and early 2000's was a big fanboy of this fascinating fictional universe. And since I watch all 6 movies in in-universe's chaological order, I truly loved it. And he is a issue for Trey and Matt. They mostly like Prequel trilogy, but were pointed how it difficult for them to love it since they inevitably compared it to Original trilogy (which as edited multiple times by Lucas himself, last time in 2011). Same policy they used to 4th Indiana Jones film. And it was totally fine. Since they are highly individualistic people, who proved by their right and bad decisions they may know better. Especially since they did it so d@mn wild and hilariously funny. Same can be say for subplot with Cartman's xenophobic against Chinese people. Within South Park universe Cartman represent average American idiot, who felt insecurity over raise of China since early 2000's. But the reasons of his fear and his inability to act reasonably showed all worst part in him. And as you saw, that paranoia leaded to needless violence for nothing. Not to pointing that he drove Butters into this shenanigans once more. In hindsight by a middle 2023 we can all agree that policy of Chinese Communists Party and its unhealthy ambitions are toxic, yet blaming and targeting ALL Chinese people is fundamentally wrong approach in every level possible. So, thanks to this episode, Trey and Matt basically told worried audience back in 2008 "Hey, we are also waring, But since none of us know what to do with it, let at least be calm. Okay? Let's not reduce ourselves to hate against Asians. At least not without punchline." The fact what Disney did to both Star Wars and Indiana Jones is a cinematography tragedy that could not be undone. At least for many it proved that original creator indeed knows better what to do with their property. And if you gonna continue what was not started by you, you should pay respect. Partly for me and few my friends Trey's and Matt's respond to Lucas' and Spielberg's last works aged poorly, since they were not really bad movies in first places. And ever since Disney owned they...Well, there no need for forward comments how folks in the Internet (who let hate clouded their minds back then) now feeling bad for talking badly about Lucas' views. Yet again, that is fine. And Trey and Matt are showing perfect maturity by not denying what they saying decades ago, but also learning from their mistakes. And not a single person, even hater to their bones, should felt guilty for their actions. None of us can predict future, neither our bad decisions in the past reversing. But we can admit them, faced backlashes and get better. Again, especially when you did it in mercilessly sarcastic way it will get though time as high quality wine. For instance, I despise Disney for what they did to Star Wars (not only movies), to point I completely let it go and decided to avoid anything connected to modern Star Wars like a plague. I will not spent a coin on any envision of Mickey on such once great franchise. However. I also not screaming about my thought in all directions. I am leaving along folks who liked it and do not engage into trash talk. I said it to myself once back in 2015 and ever since I feel free. P.S. I apologising for quite messy comment, but I wrote it while been driven by feelings. Hope you will get my point, mate.
