New Backing Track!

Here's the backing track for the tab I posted yesterday and the video I posted on Instagram on 3/28/21. It's a minor blues in C minor with a few little twists and turns. The progression is: Cmin / Cmin / Cmin / Cmin Edim Gdim /Fmin / G7 / Cmin11 / Cmin Bbmin Eb9 / Ab7 / Ab7 G7(b13) / Cmin9 Eb / G7(b13). It's a 12 bar progression that uses some diminished passing chords to get to the 4 chord and a '2-5-1' to get to the flat 6 chord (Cmin Bbmin Eb9 / Ab7). It's a fun track to play over because you can basically stick to C minor over the whole thing or chose to really dig in and outline the sound of each chord change. Enjoy!

Hello all - Could anyone explain the 2-5-1 to the flat 6? What is the key center to this turn around and how does it relate to the blues format (C minor). Much appreciated - Cheers

The G# note played over the G7 chord in the flat 9 from the altered scale. That line is pretty much straight out of a G altered (super locrian) scale. Hopefully that helps!

I guess you could say there are a few short half/whole diminished phrases over both the G7 and the Ab7. yes?

David Allman

this is terrific. i am however not understanding the G# in bar 7. Based on the E/G diminished phrase in bar 5, i think that bar 6 is the Fmin and bar 7 is the G7. Hence my confusion over the G# in bar 7. Anyone got this?

David Allman

Awesome! Thank you! My favorite blues sound that I’ve ever heard.

Justin Bishop

Awesome, man, thanks! Was going to work on this progression later today. Hope you're well!
