Jack - as always, thank you for the crystal clear explanation of how and when to incorporate a Lydian dominant scale into a tune: secondary dominant (C7) to half step above it (Db7), then recognizing this is actually the tritone substitution for G7 and using an altered scale in G over the Db7. G7 is also the secondary dominant of C7 (which is the secondary dominant of Fm, the lead chord) and Db7 is a tritone away from G (or b5). Wow!! My only concern is how can I do this automatically in a jam session on the spot… without having to go through this mental arithmetic? Do you take time to plan out these ideas and with time… they become automatic? Your comments would be appreciated. Thank you!

Jack
