Here's what I workshopped recently in my writing group! I know I've shown some of the opening pages of Laura-a famous lesbian on Clickster living in Alaska-as she cruises online as Leo, an alternative trans identity. Her hookup goes viral! The workshop went really well and brought up a lot of questions I'm wrestling with in this piece. The internet isn't bad (or good), am I making it clear it's a point of connection and harm in this story! I want Laura/Leo to exist in the nebulous part of identity, without her ever having to "pick one". I want this to be a commitment to the sexual body/a commitment to cruising, how can I make that last hookup show that it's a good thing, not a replacement for IRL community but at the same time not working against community, and it's an overall positive experience?!
ANYWAYS! Some of the questions as I re-write Unhinged for the next trimester. In march I'm turning in a partial full-draft, so it'll be rough (like this), but should have more of the middle filled out. I'm hoping that my themes and the things driving this book remain clear as I start on this next dragft.
