Goal Reached! SSD, Linux and Windows 10 Pro!!!
Added 2018-04-20 21:56:30 +0000 UTCEarlier in the week I managed to get my new SSD for the Linux dualboot that I have been testing and really looking forward to for a while now. Linux offers me MASSIVELY improved render speeds on most CPU rendered project(complex projects that the Graphics card memory can't handle). However since I never used Linux before it was a bit of an adventure trying to get it set up, since in Linux even updating a driver means doing everything via the terminal. At one point I even managed to completely destroy the operating system to a point where I had to do a fresh re-install of Linux only about a day after the initial install!
But I didn't stop there! I knew my Windows 7 was holding me back also, so after consulting a friend in the industry he put me onto a guy who sells Windows keys that have been previously used, along with a broken computer. I got a Windows 10 Pro along with a broken motherboard stupidly cheap!($6!!!).
So this is what I have been doing those last few days, formatting, installing and learning new Operating Systems. I have been running some render tests just to show some numbers for the CPU render and they are as follows:
Linux time: 1:26
Win 7 time: 1:45
Win 10 time: 1:43
These are results for a 100 pass(very low quality) render of the current scene. All setting have been kept the same along with the same save file for all tests. Longer test are coming soon but right now it's just good to get back into the real work!
