How are Vitor Vilela's projects going? This post is a summary of which projects are work in progress, which projects has updates planned and which projects are on the initial phrase (which means they will be worked on soon!)
The roadmap will be monthly updated for keeping track of everything on Vitor's projects and how they are progressing.
For the patrons, stay tuned that in the following days I'm going to make the monthly Requests Center post where you can make requests and talk about the current projects more directly with me.
Finished projects
- Super Mario World with SA-1 Pack - status: stable.
- Gradius III with SA-1 Root - status: stable, however, I'm assisting GuyPerfect with a patch that slowdowns the bullet speeds of some bosses. If it becomes successfully, it has a chance of getting integrated into SA-1 Root as an add-on.
- Contra III with SA-1 Root - status: requires update. It doesn't work on hardware currently and a fix is being planned.
- Super R-Type with SA-1 Root - status: stable.
- Race Drivin' with SA-1 Root - status: updates planned. The RPM display is unstable on MiSTer & hardware and an update is planned for fixing the issue. In addition, there will be upgrades on the title screen for ensuring a more stable demo and the wheel turning speed will be adjusted (slowered down) to match more like the original experience. I got feedback that it makes the game feel too icy and the wheel might be the biggest guilty.
In progress projects
- Super Mario World with widescreen support - status: work in progress. I have yet to fix vertical levels which currently wraps around the widescreen area, have to redesign 1-screen levels (such as bonus games, castle/ghost house entrances, Yoshi's house, etc.). mode 7 bosses (Iggy, Larry, Morton, Roy, Ludwig and Bowser) and overworld, shooters, coin, minor extended, extended, bounce, score, cluster and smoke sprites interactions & display on widescreen area. If you are confused, this diagram is an example of each sprite type and they need to be recoded to work with widescreen:

- Star Fox with Super FX 2 support - status: awaiting for Super FX dev carts. Currently, qwertymodo and The Real Phoenix are working on a hacked Winter Gold cartridge which allows loading custom ROMs into it. Once I receive at least one, I will be able develop more carefully Star Fox with the proper real hardware testing to ensure the speed will be stable. I have hopes of receiving the cart in middle april.
- Axelay with SA-1 Root - status: work in progress. The disassembly is done and I'm preparing the RAM remappings needed to run The Last Remapper, the tool responsible for remapping the RAM to the SA-1 chip side. Axelay's disassembly is over 15 MB big. Race Drivin' for comparison is 6.5 MB big. Since Axelay heavily uses HDMA and special PPU features, certainly will be a more challenging conversion than Super R-Type.
