Hello everyone,
Hope you are all keeping well in these uncertain times. It's been a quiet time on the channel lately- mostly down to my day job demanding a lot of time recently, and the first weeks of any year being a slow time for productivity (tax season and all that).
I have though been doing quite a bit of reading and writing with a view to getting some videos out on a more regular basis as we head into the spring. I'm taking the view at the moment that it might be better to release a series of videos at good, regular intervals- even if it takes longer to get the first episode done, rather than staggering on with our schedule from 2020.
So in that spirit, here's some general updates on how work on several different series/videos is progressing-
Jutland
You might remember a while ago I talked about doing a follow up to my Jutland video from 2018, which would discuss who actually 'won' the battle, and go in to details about how modern perceptions of the battle were shaped in the years after.
I did a lot of reading on this over the Christmas period, and have a first draft script complete. However I couldn't quite shape the disparate strands together into a cohesive narrative - so for the time being its paused. I intend to come back to this script in the spring and have another go at bringing it to completion.
Malaya
The first series of this year I think is going to be on the Malaya campaign in late 1941 and early 1942. We'll be beginning with the sinking of HMS Repulse and Prince of Wales, before moving on to look at the land campaign, culminating in the fall of Singapore.
The first video in this series is currently in the animation stage, with narration recorded. Going to start research on episode 2 shortly!
Burma
A natural fit I think after Malaya will be Burma. I haven't started research yet, but thinking particularly about focusing on the key 1944 battles, with a pit stop perhaps to discuss the Bengal famine in 1943. More on this to come!
