A big (and momentous) May Update

Hi there everyone,

It's been quite a while since I wrote one of these, for which I apologise. It's been a very manic few months in my day  job over the last few months, which has meant that any time I've had for YouTube work has gone into quietly preparing the next series for publication.

You might know I made a decision at the start of the year to stop releasing videos at the horrible 12-week intervals, and instead wait to release a series of videos closer together.

Work has been going on towards that, there just hasn't been a huge amount to show for it yet. We are getting closer though, and I am aiming for the week of May 22 to publish the first video in the Malayan series. The videos in that series (5-6 in total) will then follow at neat two-week intervals.

As well as this, I have more good news for the channel, and its something that is pretty momentous for me.

Those of you who  have been around as Patrons for a while might know that my day job is as a Community Manager for Paradox Interactive. Over the last year or so I have been trying to move to Stockholm to continue my career at the company. For a bunch of complicated life reasons, in the last few weeks its become clear that I'm not going to be able to relocate as I hoped.

As a consequence, in June I will be leaving my job and trying to do this YouTube channel as a full time endeavour.

Lack of time has always been the biggest enemy of historigraph, and my inability to put enough time in to ensure regular uploads has I think hamstrung the channel and been annoying for both me and you guys.

It's long bothered me not knowing whether or not with more time Historigraph could be a viable full time business for me, and so I'm going to use this opportunity to find that out for certain.  It's now or never.

So, from the above-mentioned video on or around May 22, I intend to have a video every two weeks going forwards, with even more than that in the future if the channel grows.

This means that from June I'll be switching the Patreon back to per-month billing, since I think its more sustainable long-term and easier to understand your pledges.

It also means that every dollar, euro or pound you guys support me with will directly relate to my ability to keep making videos- I just want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for the support you have given.

You  have all stood by a very inactive Patreon feed during lean months of no content, and you have my gratitude for that.

But the lean times are over, and its time to kick Historigraph into a higher gear.

Stay tuned for a comprehensive update on video plans for the rest of 2021, including a couple of slots where I'll be doing a video of patrons choice.

P.S- one of the things I want to do with my full focus on Historigraph is do regular livestreams about the channel (amongst other things), so to that end I've set up a twitch account. You can follow it here: https://www.twitch.tv/historigraph

Much appreciated! Got lots of plans I'm hoping to bring to fruition over the coming months and weeks

Good to hear! Historigraph is a rare breed of history channel and your videos do fill a niche I think. The quality and passion for your work is evident and it’s why this is the only YouTube channel I support. I’ll be happy to help you with a month sub to keep the content coming.

Thank you so much - really means the world that. I'll do my best to live up to your and my patrons faith :)

Good luck in going all-in ! I'll be happy to see more of your videos, and since you're willing to rely on Patreon for a living, I'll raise my contribution a bit already to help :)

wishing you the best! looking forward to all the new content too

Mason
