A Big Thank You + Falklands Series Update

Hello everyone!

It's been a long while since I wrote a comprehensive update on the channel. In fact I've been awfully quiet on all fronts other than uploading videos for a few months now.

The reason for this, largely, is that my fiancée and I spent the summer going through the process of buying our first home. There was lots of waiting, paperwork, packing and finally moving a couple of weeks ago- but definitely worth it in the end.

It took three years of hard saving from us both, and a large amount of the deposit has ultimately ended up being money from the living I'm earning on YouTube. Ultimately that career, and my livelihood comes back to you guys on Patreon, many of you who have been with the channel since the very start.

I'm not nearly as good as saying this as I should be, but I trace a direct line from the contributions you give here to support the content, however small, and me and my other half being able to build a life together- so thank you all, truly and properly.

Now that we're settled and I can stop stressing about solicitors, I want to focus much more fully on the Patreon. I know more than anyone that I've not been good at keeping up with regular posts on here in the way I want to. Other bits of work have got in the way a lot, particularly when projects have overrun.

I'm aiming to change this this autumn though, by putting more time into doing regular updates on here and reforming rewards tiers. There will be a much bigger update coming going into lots of detail, but one thing I can say I'm aiming for is to make sponsorship-free versions of every video available to Patreons, and extend the early access viewing time to a week where possible. I have too often ended up right against deadlines for sponsors, and I want to change that.

Falklands Update

There are two more videos still to come out in the Falklands series. This one has dragged out far too long this year- I underestimated the amount of work certain videos would need massively.

Both of these will come out in October, about a week apart. Current schedule is for around the 16th and 22nd of the month.

The first will cover the Battle of San Carlos- the attempts by Argentina to disrupt British landings on the Falklands that claimed three ships and damaged six others.

The second and final episode in the series will focus on the land campaign, featuring Goose Green, Mount Longdon, Mount Tumbledown and so on.

Comments

Yes very much agreed. The sponsorships being in there has been mainly a product of me running too close to deadlines and ending up with only one version of the video and an early access period that was too short to be meaningful. Hoping that going forwards I can keep better scheduling.

Congratulations on your new home and well done on the nearly completed release of your Falklands Islands War series. Complete mini-series like these are real achievements and are anchoring points for the channel. I must say, I am pleased to see that you will be removing sponsorship adverts for patreon released videos. It was a little galling to be subject to an ad-read when one has already financially supported the project. However, that you are aware of this perspective and are looking to remedy it is reassuring and will keep me (I'm sure others as well) engaged on your patreon for some time to come. Keep up the excellent work - the research and presentation of these events really says it all.
