2 New Videos Available in Early Access - December Update

Hi everyone,

Apologies for the gap since the last behind the scenes update. Over the last few weeks we've been working flat out to get the videos for december finished and ready for early access. We're just about there now, so I can share what we're been working on.

Falklands Full Length

The first bit of content for this month was a feature-length cut of the Falklands series from 2022. This takes all seven episodes and edits them together into a single cohesive documentary, with a 1hr 25m runtime and all of the various sponsorships from each video removed for the best viewing experience.

One issue that I ran into this year was that orignally I was intending to have one or two videos from the Vietnam series come out in December, but this had to be changed at quite short notice (in relative terms) when two episodes in that series badly underperformed, and so I had to restructure the content plan for the end of the year. The Balikpapan video followed from this decision as well

In previous years our releases at the end of December have been quite big, comprehensive videos, but with time quite short, instead I decided we should make two videos on comparatively smaller topics, more like the Balikpapan and Narvik videos from earlier in the autumn.

So, there will be two videos coming out in what is left of December

Battle of Vella Gulf

The first video will be on the Battle of Vella Gulf, a significant destroyer action that took place in the solomon islands in August 1943. It saw a US destroyer force ambush and destroy a japanese formation at night for the first time, and indicated the growing superiority of the USN in some key aspects.

Release date for this video will be ~21st Dec

Liberty Ship

The second video is a bit of a change of pace, and is slightly more of an opinion piece, talking about the profound impact of the 'Liberty ship' on the course of WW2.

This was originally intended as part of the Atlantic series earlier in the year, but I decided in the summer to hold it back, to give us an extra video in december - which is traditionally the most important time of year on YouTube.

The video goes through the development of the liberty ship, the vast production numbers it got up to, and the impact that it had on the war effort.

Release date for this video is planned for 26/27 December

Initial January Plans

These are still quite sketchy, but I am expecting to return and finish off the first phase of the Vietnam war series with the currently half-finished video on the  battle of dien bien phu. We'll have to release this to complete the trio of videos on the french conflict in vietnam, and then assess from there.

I'll have more news in the new year.
