Behind the Scenes - New Hire Patron FAQ

Hello! I wanted to start off my scheduled Behind-the-Scenes posts with a pretty exhaustive FAQ, so that any supporter can have their questions answered about this game, the development timeline, how the Patreon will work, and more.

If you have any other questions, reach out to me on the New Hire Discord and I can try to answer them to the best of my ability / add those questions here!

How often will your Patreon update?

The update schedule for New Hire builds will be every two months, giving me time to produce a larger chunk of finished progress for more satisfying updates. (You can think of this schedule as a new game update on every odd-numbered month of the year). On non-build months, or even-numbered months, all patrons will receive behind-the-scenes posts (like this one) which discuss some aspect of development and could include patron-exclusive sketches, short stories, behind-the-scenes content, and polls. On these months, Executive tier patrons will also receive the next chapter in Cade's Corner, a bi-monthly blog post with 18+ artwork from the perspective of an in-game character from New Hire.

What is Cade’s Corner?

Cade’s Corner is a blog post which updates bi-monthly written by Cade Cooper, a character from New Hire. He writes about his thoughts, his experience as an abdl, and memories/stories from his past, sometimes including Eli, his best friend and the protagonist of New Hire.

What are the YCH Auction Posts for Executive patrons?

Throughout the game development there will be minor characters who serve some role in the game’s story — these roles will be auctioned as YCHs for Executive patrons to bid on. Bidding will take place in Patreon comments and the starting bid will scale depending on the presence, number of lines, and subject matter of each minor character auctioned. More details about this process will be clear when the first YCH is available for bidding.

If I’m an Executive patron, can I see more details on the development schedule or the game roadmap?

Absolutely! I can show Executives who would like to see that, preferably through Discord or some live channel where I can walk through it properly. I default, though, to patrons not seeing the game roadmap, though — as it would spoil the story and direction of the game for those invested in playing it as it develops.

How much of the game do you have planned out?

The entirety of New Hire is fully storyboarded and its development is organized into a build schedule. This means that not only is the basic framework for the primary story and all character arcs complete, but development of the entire game is planned out according to a regular, realistic work schedule for this Patreon. While there still might be some changes to the script / direction of the game as its produced, the basic premise, characters, and romantic arcs will not significantly change. The last thing I want is to promise huge updates and unrealistic expectations then crash and burn — a bulk of my pre-launch development went into storyboarding the game and structuring its development so no part of the development process is unrealistic or left to be figured out later.

How heavily will New Hire rely on decision-based gameplay? Can I “fail” or “pass” parts of the game?

New Hire (currently) is not planned to feature any significant choice-based gameplay. There might be options in conversations, but I chose to avoid decision-trees and consequential character choices for much of the game because it adds a level of complexity to the development and story progression which does not fit the plan I have for New Hire — this game, without spoiling any details, is about the primary story unfolding, not winnable conversations or more explicit decision paths. Not that that’s bad — I love decision based games! But that’s not how this game will work.

How final is the art/script/etc once you add it? Will you go back and change things?

For the sake of sticking to the development schedule, I try to polish the script and artwork for each build fully before releasing it. As the game develops, there might be tweaks to artwork or updates to small parts of the script to reflect new updates to the larger script development and to keep continuity. None of those updates should be major and, if they are, that will be discussed with Patrons in a post.

Will this game be explicit? Which kinks, other than abdl, will feature in this game? Can I opt out of any kinks?

This game will be explicit. As the story develops, the pornographic nature of this game will become clear, and, other than abdl, some kink/fetish subjects will come up. Warning users of kinks featured in this game is a complicated topic — on the one hand, I would like to warn anyone of any kinks they may not enjoy, but on the other hand, mentioning upfront which kinks come up spoils the surprise and excitement of following this story’s direction.

I can quell some concern by saying that all characters featured in this game will be consenting adults above the age of 18.
