Time Team Special: Britain's Stone Age Tsunami (2013) - FULL EPISODE

There's been a lot of interest in our Book of the Month, Doggerland, as featured in the latest episode of Time Team News.

So, we're pleased to share another Classic Special from the archives, 'Britain's Stone Age Tsunami', in which Tony and Phil investigate this little-known ancient European landmass further.

We visit Star Carr, Britain's most important Mesolithic site, in North Yorkshire, to find out what life was like for the inhabitants of Doggerland, before it disappeared beneath the North Sea. Meanwhile, Alex Langlands tucks in to some tasty Mesolithic home-cooking.

Hare you looked for Channel4.com or More4. The site for UK channel 4, they were the TV channel that showed almost all of the programmes. On there they have, series 1 to 11, getting on 130 episodes, ie 1993 to 2005. I hope this is of some use to you

👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻 Would love to see something from seasons 5, 6, 7, or 8: for some reason, I am unable to access and watch any of these series here in West Australia. 🥺😢😭

Terrific program on Star Carr, etc. But to those imagining life in the Mesolithic beside a shallow lake might have been somewhat good I have a question. I know that Britain and Europe in general have few flying insects but do you know that was the case in the Mesolithic, before the vast drainages of the landscape and the canalization of streams and rivers? I would think that the wilder parts of North America would be a useful analog and here, the mosquitoes are big enough to carry off small children.

Geology and Archeology. Two of my favorite interests. What struck me though, was the disappearance of land as they ice sheets melted. So similar to what is happening to the arctic peoples in the current day. Thank goodness not by giant, globe-spanning tsunamis.

Tĥank you very much. I am glad to see he is doing so well. I was dismayed he was not part of the new Time Team, and wondered why. Pphil Harding was always one of my favourite members jof Time team of the past

I miss Phil!

This special was particularly good, though all these specials are engrossing. Each one is worth repeated watching. Thank you for releasing, keep them coming!

This one was very special to me as my Y-DNA testing has identified that my direct male line arrived in what is now Britain and Ireland when Doggerland existed after the end of the last ice age. Not only did they survive those natural disasters but also every wave of later arrivals, wars, disease and other natural disasters. It was wonderful to see how they lived with the evidence of housing, etc.

I'd love to see Britain's drowned World again as well. Is there a way we could vote on old specials in order to push some to the top of the paperwork file? My favourite special - and vaguely related to this one as it's mesolithic by the sea - was the Seahenge episode.

Where is Phil Harden now?

Alan McMillan

Amazing new information. It really helps to see just how interconnected we are.

People think of huntergathers were, what? What did they do in bad weather? In the winter? Shelter had to be a must. People in these days were not stupid.

Alan McMillan

I remember the episode when Phil Harden followed this amazing event people simply take for granted. The Channel. Dogerland is only a word.

Alan McMillan

This was a great and interesting episode. I greatly look forward to watching this Time Team Classic again...

That does sound prommsing. I'm not interested in the overseas ones aaI receive the CA magazine regularly. But the last two revisits to digs of the past have beeing very interesting to see the research that goes on after the the trenches are backfilled, has been very rewarding.

Barry Jones

I'm looking forward to this one - always had a bit of a fascination with the North Sea's Stoneage Atlantis.

Paul Faulkner

Hi Alice, before each Classic episode can be re-released, we need to conduct a full paperwork review, but we're looking at making more episodes available when we can. Look out for more on the way! Thanks

Time Team

Please could you also share Britain's Drowned World, the other special concentrating on Doggerland?
