SATURDAY: Aldbourne in the USA - LIVESTREAM (Test 2) - Digging Band of Brothers 2024

Thank you to everyone who managed to join us for our impromptu livestream test today. Apologies to those who couldn't make it in short notice.

We're pleased to announce another livestream tomorrow (Saturday 11th May) at around 11am (BST). Please note, the start time may vary slightly, depending on when we get the go-ahead from the site to go live.

Following your feedback today, we also hope to experiment with an audio commentary!

We are testing out ideas and processes ahead of upcoming digs, so please do let us know how it goes for you on the devices you're using, to feedback into next time.

The stream will run exclusively on Patreon, via this post.

PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR UPDATES ON THIS POST PRIOR TO THE START

If you can't make it live, don't worry - a replay will be available to watch at your leisure afterwards.

360-vision

This will be a 360-degree livestream, allowing you to rotate and explore the footage from every angle.

Open the video livestream to watch in YouTube, by clicking on the title link at the top of the video.

While watching the video on a computer click and drag using the mouse or tracker pad: up, down, left and right to get a full 360-degree view in real time! You can also zoom in or out.

Depending on your connection speed, you may need to adjust the video quality by clicking on the cog icon at the bottom of the YouTube window.

If using a phone or other mobile device, it should work by simply rotating the screen.

Comments

"Aldbourne in the USA" - it's just a play on the village's American connections (and possibly a lost Springsteen album)

What does "in the USA" mean?

Enjoy being able to spin around the site, but wish we could zoom in on the conversations.

My old DSL would have been slow & choppy, but do-able. With 5G it's fast at panning around, zoom is speedy but hard to focus, headphones a must for me on my laptop. I LOVE this tech, literally seeing behind-the-scenes action. Missed the LIVE but enjoyed the recording. Thank you everyone!

Patricia Amero

Couldn't watch it live as I was working, but great to have another 360° test. Sound was reasonable, but I am watching it on a tablet. Great to have a few impromptu interviews.

Bob Pockney

A little sad that the actual quality is pretty bad by modern standards and barely better at 1080s than 480s, and the scaling/warping seems have left some ringing due to oversharping it. But the 360 effect is great and looking at the "raw" 1080p video actually being streamed (before 360 warping) shows it has a bit more details but also that the distances are fairly long. The output would be a lot nicer if the pre-transform stream was 4K instead but no idea if that's doable (hardware, Youtube encoding and so on).

This was worth getting up early. I just visited the Operation Nightingale facebook page and saw some of the photos of the site. Could that be something you incorporate into the live streams? I realize for finds found live you can't get a photo uploaded, but the Navy person, Janet, you interviewed had found a "strap holder"? and was pictured a few hours ago on the facebook page. Thanks again for always looking to improve the experience of the viewer.

Carl Johnson

Not sure if you are still live. No picture but have sound. (Think it was the rcording!)

Philip Ireland

John Dodd

I'm going to set my alarm and try to be up for this. Looking forward to seeing how the audio commentary works. Really enjoyed the reply of the previous test.

Carl Johnson

That will be 2 AM in Alaska. No problem. Hope the weather is nice.

Mark & Jill Jefson

Amen sister!

Priscilla Waller

6am in the USA? Guess I will be watching the replay 😂
