Dig Watch | Princely Burial Site: Day Six

What an incredible week that has been! Here's Day 6 of Dig Watch...

Thank you for joining us and for making this all possible.

Awesome 🎶

Hi, yes there is a lot more still to come from this site! The Dig Watch coverage takes you behind the scenes of the filming, direct from the site, as it happens. We then put together the completed episode with full analysis/conclusions, to be released at a later date. Look out for details of that in due course.

Time Team

May I ask: are these 6 brief glimpses all there is to this site? I’ve been left feeling like there must be more to this site. I initially thought these snippets were just a preview of a full length show to follow. Would of loved to have been able to see the more detailed and informative content.

Michelle Cailes

I thought this six shorter pieces were just great. I'm so appreciative of all the work that went into them. I can't wait to see the finished product that will incorporate the post-excavation work, and, hopefully answer some of these questions about use and re-use of the site.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I love the casual format of these conversations more than the more formal Dig Watch interviews (which I also liked). Great job by Helen and Jackie. I also wonder if it turns out to be a 6th century site if plague is a possibility. The unusual and irregular, shallow burials is interesting.

Dyana Mason

Hi Kirsten, it's in the wider region so there are some interesting parallels there!

Time Team

Hi everyone - do you know if this site is close to the Princely Burial site? https://www.cbsnews.com/news/human-skeletons-more-than-1000-years-old-found-in-old-bell-hotel-garden-malbesbury-uk-archeologists/?ftag=CNM-00-10aac3a

Kirsten Lewis

Good incremental coverage of these digs. A nerdy question: what file format do you shoot in. Rec 709 or Log?

Robin Whitehead

Thanks all for the replies! I love that we can do more than 3 days now when needed!

Jon Zephanius

Too bad the reddish stone is not from a grave. But I already expected it to be a fire place.

Eelco Kruidenier

Thank you. 'Tis a treat to see the thinking, discovery, and questions arising. Well done, Time Team and Volunteer Veterans.

Graham Stokes

I'm amazed at how round that Roman building is. Now that I know you can turn limestone pink by heating it, is there any evidence that designers did that on purpose to decorate a structure or did they only rely on natural pink limestone?

Carl Johnson

Thanks so much for sharing this with us! I’ve loved every minute - more of these would be great :)

Not an 'actual' TT dig. TT were invited, I think, by Op Nightingale to come along for their excavation and film it for a future programme. So TT following other digs between patreon funded 3 day digs, to keep the interest, and give VFM for the subscribers; as TT digs are still relatively few presumably due to the limits of crowdfunded income.

Mark Lund

This was not an 'actual' TT dig. They were, I think, invited by Op Nightingale to come along to watch and film and make an episode, as they have done a couple of times before, so an expansion of the original TT remit and also some added interest between the patreon funded TT digs that are still relatively few in number due to crowdfunding limits.

Mark Lund

In addition to the classic 3-day format, we now have greater flexibility to tailor the approach as fits the specific site. On this occasion, we were collaborating on a dig coordinated by Operation Nightingale.

Time Team

Wow. Post excavation work is going to be very interesting.

Kerry Hennigan

Hang on, I must've missed the post that talked about this--when did we go from "only three days to find out" to "Day 6"? I mean, I'd love a month-long dig even, so double the number of days is double the fascination, but is this a permanent format change?

Jon Zephanius

Another triumph of time team …. Wonderful ⚔️👍👏

Andrew Lamb

Wonderful production all! We are looking forward to seeing the final product.

Mark & Jill Jefson

I have so enjoyed watching the daily updates, thank you!

Delaine Keenum

RIchard and Jacki are wonderful on screen together. Well done. Cheers!

Mark Gaither

This dig has been brilliant. I hope we see more from this site.

Julianne Ture

I wonder whether post excavation's gonna answer some of the lingering questions. What striked me as amazing was how visible and prominent the circular enclosure/structure was from the drone view. For once a feature was not just a vaguely recognizable blob of off-colored soil. Thank you limestone. :)

Jakub Jůzl

A HUGE thank you to everyone for making this happen 🙏

Patricia Amero

What fun! Worth every penny of my Patreon subscription. I can't wait for the actual episode, it seems like there was a lot more going on behind the scenes.

Stephanie Hogan

Football - 22 people with nothing better to do.

Roger Mills

At the risk of being booed off the Patreon stage "I don't watch football" ducking as I run... sorry guys & gals, I have something better lined up- DIG WATCH 🤩

Patricia Amero

😂

Patricia Amero

NFL - is that like Rugby?

Time Team

Anyone reading this from other countries btw, there is a major football match on here at the moment, and practically the whole country is watching it!

Gillian Gordon

Football on in the background, just been catching up on this. Another thoroughly enjoyable week’s digging, I love these windows into the work that you do, thank you.

Gillian Gordon

Much better than the football. Intriguing site

Sally B

Fascinating, as always 👍

Wessex-Wyvern

NFL doesn't start til autumn! 😛

John Keady

It's a good excuse to get out of the heat here in Maine.

David Vickery

Football? What football? 😂

Wessex-Wyvern

Timing is not good. Will watch later. 😂

Carol Overrill

For all those who aren't watching the football right now...
