Basically, this company offers a service where you doctor issues a prescription and they send you a kit to take a genetic sample (cheek swab). They send your doctor a genetic analysis indicating which medications will work for you and which ones won't. This takes a lot of the trial and error out of changing medications to see which ones work best and have fewest side effects. (They screen for genetic markers for side effects as well.) As a result, I'm changing one of my primary prescriptions entirely, while increasing the dosage of the other.
I'm really hoping this will help my productivity and focus. I'd never heard of this company before, so I thought I would share the news. Most insurance covers it, which makes sense because it will cut down on side-effects and reduce overall costs for them as well. Medicare, for example, completely covers it.
