Podcast recordings and steps

I'm going to try and post podcasts on Patreon before they reach the final stage, so you can see the less edited versions :)
If you're interested, here are the steps we take when recording podcasts
1. The Topic
When it comes to most topics, Sophie and I try prepare things in advance. You can hear some of our though process presented in All The Screams That Followed.
Sometimes I think of stuff while Sophie's sleeping. In that case, it's a surprise podcast for Sophie. She loves surprises.
2. The Outline
Most of the time we have an outline to follow. The process of coming up with an outline varies based on the topic.
3. Scheduling
We try to schedule our recordings on the weekend these days. It's easier to coordinate the weekend since we're in opposite timezones.
4. The Recording
We record our stuff on Zencastr. We found this to be the most convenient way to record our podcasts.
5. Editing
• Step 1
The first step is running the audio of each participant through filters. That is done to make sure there’s no noise, or peaks in audio, things like that.
• Step 2: Draft 1
I import all the tracks into my editor. I do a general edit of the audio.
This is where I basically listen to the whole thing. I remove parts that are really irrelevant, repetitions, double takes, major silence etc.
This is where I send sophie requests for notes.
Step 3: Draft 2
I go over Draft 1 with a fine tooth comb.
I remove more irrelevant stuff, remove coughs, remove "ums", remove mouth noises, removing pauses. I also add pauses, that is done so that people have time to process things that are said, before we continue with a topic. I also separate the audio to make sure ppl don’t talk over each other etc.
Step 4: Draft 3
I go over Draft 2.
And this time, as I go over the draft, I add pictures, videos, transitions, text, notes, pixels, music etc.
Step 5: Final Copy
I go over the whole thing again, to make sure that everything is in order. I fix any little issues that I may not have noticed before.
Voila
We got ourselves a podcast!
