Mere Notilde - New Day (Early Mix)

Hi everyone! Happy Friday!
It's a brand new month and I see everyone stayed with me! I'm pleasantly surprised!

I actually recently quit my job to pursue my music career, and so the Patreon is very important to me, especially now! You guys are seriously doing a lot to keep me afloat. I have a couple of other forms of income, including a music job at a games studio, Notilde Tapes, and Spotify, as well as any profit from merch that might come in. But to be honest, my Patreon and my music job are by far the most sustainable forms of income that I have at the moment. So really, from the bottom of my heart, thank you guys! You're seriously doing a lot for me, and allowing me the time and funds to make more music!

The track I have for you is one I'm working on as part of my new album. This is really the first time I've had such a clear vision for a record, with a concept and theme behind every song. To be completely honest though, what I've been hearing in my head has been a bit hard for me to translate into Ableton.

For most of my projects until now, I've heavily relied on samples to get music done. I usually didn't have a super specific vision for what I wanted the track to sound like in the past (besides maybe, "I want to make a Future Funk track today" or "I want to make something more downtempo"). I'm trying to break out of that and make a bit of a concept album here, about my relationship with my boyfriend through the pandemic. I want to try to tell a bit of a story through the music.

As a result of my ambitions, I'm really starting to see my shortcomings as a producer. When you get into a habit of dropping a funk song in, adding a 4 on the floor funk pattern, chopping the sample and mixing the track so it's as loud as possible, it's hard to break out of that habit. That's where I am right now, trying to make something new and exciting. I want to incorporate other genres other than Future Funk into this record, using more original instrumentation. But that's easier said than done!

I took some time to post the track I posted today because I keep going back to it, changing things, and I go from liking it to disliking it. I suppose I'll leave it alone for a while and come back when I have a fresh view on it. I really want to get it sounding the way I imagine the track in my head, but I think it will take a lot more work. But you guys motivate me to keep trying!
