Okay! The next step in art direction and development for Akello's chapter- the CG. Since the cg is the best chance for players to get an intimate feel for the character, Atlas and I are always trying to think of new ways to position and light interesting scenes. Another challenge is that because these have all been introductory chapters so far, we've been slightly limited in what types of cgs to start with. For instance, when Mori's chapter was originally made, NSFW artwork was not permitted in the Jam the game was submitted, and then for Akello and Amir, I felt that giving the player to see their full bodies was important in selling the character's appeal. One of my goals moving into the prologue is to shake things up with close ups, actions shots, etc. :>
We started with a sketch. Atlas was able to lay out basically exactly what i was thinking in terms of elements. I wanted to play to Akello's gentle top leanings and I kept describing this scene as something reminiscent of a king on his throne- appealing because Akello is every bit a confident, powerful figure but one that's ready and willing to guide and care rather than just issue orders and use you.

Some pose and layout refinement, as well as additional elements to draw the line of sight. The squaring of Akello's shoulders here really boosts the regal vibes. He looks much more at home in that big seat.

As usual, Atlas is a master at pushing my basic ideas to the next level and a strong perspective change really made this scene come to life.

Next time I'll break down the further development steps in getting lines and color into this.
