practice painting o' Little Lace

"I’ve been dead before, I’ve died a number of times. On this island, it’s different. I die every night.

But I wake up to the same morning, same day, and again the same death…"

The rest of this is just gonna be me posting about backround stuff about this character because why the heck not, right?

Little Lace started out as a bit of a throw-away relative of Merry Peaks, a rogue/swashbuckler tabaxi character I used for a friend's ocean-world campaign. Merry was a sort of devil-may-care, hedonistic, flower child, oh- and a cheetah tabaxi because honestly, dnd having a catfolk race was the point of myself just accepting how gosh darn furry I was. Anyways! At some point in the campaign, Merry finds that his sisters, "Little Lace" and "Ice in the Summer", are in a sort suspended animation cell at "the bad guys" bunker. Surprise, surprise, Lace and Ice die while the group is fighting the area boss. But well, that boss gets defeated and drops a ring-

A ring of mind shielding right?

A little piece to note about the Ring of Mind Shielding, taken from roll20.net:

"If you die while wearing the ring, your soul enters it, unless it already houses a soul. You can remain in the ring or depart for the afterlife. As long as your soul is in the ring, you can telepathically communicate with any creature wearing it. A wearer can't prevent this telepathic communication."

The group gives this ring to Merry, who might be charismatic, but not necessarily very SMART. So when this disembodied voice insists it can bring his sisters back to life, soft dumbass wonderful flower child cheetah decides "well okay I can do that".

Merry stows the bodies away and heads for the Hall of Champions, the voice beckons him to find an old sewing spindle, and prick his finger on it. Idiot raises the now necromancer from the dead, and his sisters are raised to a sort of half-life in service to "the Mistress". I said he wasn't bright.

Later on, same DM offered us a round of after-campaign "DLC" so to say. I took a chance to play as Little Lace, making a few changes to her original explanation (from Merry's point of view:

"Little Lace is a sweet girl. Big muscles though! Little worked as a bodyguard for my family when our group traveled and cracked many bandits! This one doesn't think she was very fond of being called Little. Very kind to family, not so much to any one else. Little stands a few good inches taller than this one, a thick black mane sprouts from the top of her head (like a mohawk) and her fur is a little bit more light blue than my yellow."

It was kinda fun to bring her back as a warlock, and have her dead-set on serving the Mistress, dodging questions about being half-dead, and trying to conspire to turn the situations in her favor.

Lace did eventually get off that island though, but little else is known of her adventures so far.

Did I mention she had a soul-bound axe? Fun to summon, such a grumpy cat.

Hope y'all enjoy this lil' painting practice, I might take a good break from painting for now. Anyways! Back to comics!
