I know I said the next thing I would have for you was Hakaider, and I will, but I needed to recalibrate a little and also get a rough version of an original piece i've wanted to paint for a while down on "paper" so I can hold onto the image.
I've always been unsettled by the way the imagery of St George "slaying the dragon" has been consistently co-opted as nationalist propaganda, especially here in the UK where the "St George Flag" has become synonymous with Little-England conservatism. I wanted to paint a version of the George archetype where the titular saint is a distorted, pseudo-angelic predator and the "dragon" a victim filled with the vitality and warm red life that George lacks.
I don't know when this'll be finished but I wanted to have the rough squared away so I could come back to it at some point!
