Shipwrecked Elven Princex - WIP

Hey everybody,

I'm revisiting a sketch from a couple months back. You remember, it was a retake of one of Mina's renditions of... a very famous hero character with Elvish characteristics. Let's call them femme Dink, or just Dink.

Anyway, I put hours into revising and reworking the initial sketch trying to find the image, but everything stalled. Between Priscylla and the Game Smoosh, Dink just couldn't get any love and attention.

To be honest though, I also wasn't sure where to take the picture at the time. Just drawing the character in a swimsuit seemed lame. I went from super hot about the drawing and its "potential", to wondering what the hell I was thinking, and why I'd started down this path in the first place.

Opening the image up today, about two months later, I thought it best to come at everything from a fresh perspective. Drop the prior connections, drop Dink, and just feel things out afresh. There was the water, the dic--dink (yes it's still there), and some vague costume elements rendered with crude broken lines. The treatment on the clothes made them feel chaotic and torn. Torn clothes. I'd sketched some swords in the background, but they looked like sticks or planks in the water... shipwrecked? A shipwrecked elven princess, prince, princex? Now we we're getting somewhere.

At most, the imagery was a tangential allusion to Dink's Awakening, but really, this was something entirely new. Some Elven princess, set adrift, or left abandoned to the waves for reasons unknown.

Back to the drawing, part of what was chafing me initially was the setting. I found the bright sunshiny beachscape a bit dull, and kept fighting against it without knowing where to take it. I have a couple of personal sayings over here, artistic maxims if you will. The one that applies here, "broad daylight is bored daylight."

-- Thank you for the applause. --

What I mean is that a person in a bright sunshiny scene with nothing else happening tends to look dull. There's no drama, etc. And in this case, there wasn't much in the way of color contrast, just bright blue sky and blue sea, with a hint of sandy tones here and there. There's nothing wrong with shots like these, but they can be a bit basic, compositionally.

Okay, I'm talking up a storm about this scribbled together picture and boasting about my magnificent artistic process, but the fact remains, there's a lot of work to do.

Umm... I guess I have to get to work now.

Send your princex name suggestions and fic drafts my way. I look forward to reading them all. (Seriously, I wonder what her story is?)

Later,

Ecchi

P.S. Last couple of days on those Splatty prints. Check them out over at the PNKPXL Etsy shop page before they're gone. Sale goes through the end of tomorrow, Wednesday, July 9th, 2025.

(See Mommy. I did a promotion, just like a business boy!)

Really nice design, always love lithe body elves. Thyrianne, an elven Princess from a far off fallen kingdom, now refugees seeking new lands to settle. One devastating stormy night the ship was sent off course, the princess locked in her lavish cabin for safety, most of the crew swept away overboard as the boat capsized. The cracking of the ship's hull was all she remembered as a flood of chilling salt water crashed into her lingerie clad body. She wakes to the sound of roaring waves, as the violent sea smashed against rocks, her body half buried in the wet sand, whatever left of her vessel could amount to mere splinters. As she scans the lonely rocky coast, not a single soul is to be found. Shivering in the salty wind, she waded through the shallows and scavenged what little there was, an old looking sword, some rope and soppy ruined rags for a makeshift cloak. Thunder cracks in the distance as she looks out towards the dark landmass before her, with nothing but a blunt sword at the hip of her half naked body.
