For what it’s worth, since you’ve done an amazing job of continuing a heartfelt conversation through like 15 transitions: as you’ve learned you can’t be the sole source of happiness for someone, you also aren’t the sole source of sadness. If honesty causes pain, it ain’t anyone’s fault. I know you can’t logic away guilt, but from a perspective of years of mistakes in many directions, the only thing you do by not trying to be what you’re not is to save time and future pain for both. Just because they can’t see it yet, it’s a service to them. (Just my unsolicited two cents)
