Just watched on Nebula, but I think at the end of the day it reminds me of the Steroid Era in baseball, every white rapper no matter how talented is going to have an asterisk next to their legacy. They can get the accolades but their will always be that asterisk they can not escape.

So here’s an aspect of white rap that I think you may have missed; they’re non-threatening. Sure, Em had bars about killing his wife/mom/Dr. Dre, but he and a lot of other white rappers didn’t come bucking shots at the camera. It’s how white folks could consume black music as art without having to really enter the black space. And obviously that’s just continuing the tradition of bringing the soul of Harlem, or the juke joint, or the blues cafe to the safety of the white space that made Elvis and The Rolling Stones, et al. so popular. White hip-hop removed the barrier of entry into “cool” in the same way late 80s/early 90s hip-hop gave the black nerds/bohemians a chance to be cool. White rappers elevated suburban angst and trailer trash struggle as just as valid as what was happening in the hood.
