OSPod 105 After-After Show-Show!

The gang dives into a discussion of media we consumed in the week post Comic Con. This episode is like 80% us dunking on House of Leaves, 20% praise for the Sonic The Hedgehog movies. Enjoy.

My funniest House of Leaves fact is that I read it in a mental hospital (we weren't allowed technology in there so I read alot of books during my stay). Can't remember a whole lot from that time period but im pretty sure I also thought it was mid

I would like to counter with every single scene with the sister in law is fat. Taking her out of the movie changes nothing in the story, therefore it is fat

… O BOI am i glad that i listened to this before getting that book for my husband for xmas +_+ (he's never read it! i've had a peak in it twenty years ago and found it interesting in form, but too difficult, and hum. nah. hard pass, for wierd formatting i'll stay with my fav "hot pursuit in the footnote system" from the Thursday Next books :3 )

I turned 18 last year and voted for the first time this year. I just found out this morning that election day is tomorrow, not a month away anymore, but that’s whats so great about having voted two weeks ago.

Like, the base story, of the fucked up house, was interesting. But the sub-stories kept interrupting it and I hate it.

I had to read "House of Leaves" for the Read Harder Challenge, and after I finished it, I LITERALLY threw it into the wall. No hyperbole. I yeeted it. Then sold it at the used bookstore.

Red is like the guy in mag 100 who just went home from being messed with by the spiral about house of leaves

Oh also it's only 200 pages

I know red just spent half the episode complaining about house of leaves but if you'd like a different book that messes with formatting you should give Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn. In it a statue with "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" and every time a letter falls off the statue that letter gets banned from use. We read the story through letters between characters who can't use these banned letters and the town kinda slowly loses it

I like Overly Sarcastic Book Club ^^

House of Leaves sounds like a fucking nightmare

Sam Fisher

I really enjoyed this episode of the Overly Sarcastic Book Club

Mathematically speaking, it’s ~82.89% dunking on House of Leaves and ~17.11% about Sonic.

If you want an easier-to-find thing like what you were saying about why you want to watch Korean Leverage, go find a BBC series from the early-mid 00s called Hustle - very similar concept but with less of a Robin Hood angle. Also it’s got Jamie Murray (she played Carmilla in Castlevania) and the late Robert Vaughn (he was in the Magnificent Seven many many years ago and in the original Man From UNCLE series) in it, among others and if you’ve watched enough other British TV, like Midsomer Murders, you’re gonna be recognising actors all over the place.

I actually have seen Korean Leverage, a few years ago. I watched it on the website of some obscure Asian streaming service (I think it might have been kissasian?) with a lot of ads, and I might have also had use a VPN to seem like I was overseas. It was interesting to see what was the same and what was different.

The Narrator

Glad to see Red and Blue love the blue mouse on the big movie screen.

Ha! Harrow the Ninth popped into my head literally seconds before Red brought up how it messes with format. Locked Tomb is a great series!

Sounds like the perfect intersection of "too much art in this art" and "nobody's smart but me" on the part of that author
