OSPod 103 After-After Show-Show!

The gang talks about the Penguin show, the morbid fascination with terrible auteur passion projects too important to receive criticism, Ridley Scott slander, and how sometimes story conventions that are realistic are worse!

I loved your intermissions on the video, unfortunately I already watched all the other videos on that video and didn’t at the time feel like a compilation. Maybe someday though!

The Firaga lit by Thundaza wreathed in and immune to Blizzara, but not Blizzaga

Will say, regarding The Penguin show, that while it doesn't necessarily have the same kind of heightened reality as The Batman, I do both like how it fleshes out Gotham more as a place where people actually live rather than merely being the backdrop to Bruce punching muggers (and how the Riddler's actions have actively made things much, much worse for Gotham's poor as they were the people most directly effected by the sea wall getting blown up), in addition to seeing Oz's Richard III-ish slow rise to the top of Gotham's underworld is a fun thing to see.

One of the things I remember thinking when watching Castevania Season 1 that never really went away while watching the rest of it is that the whole show felt like it got an age rating bump really late in development, and felt like it was hastily rewritten to include more swearing and gore.

I mean.. yeah that was ridiculous before these shows though. Now.. the machine planet it met though... that has been multiple times suggested to be the borg homeworld. Jokingly by Gene Roddenberry, and then again by William Shatner in his "fan"fiction novels.

That's a fan theory that some people have floated, but it doesn't add up. V'ger basically turned into some kind of energy being rather than a cyborg. And there's a Voyager episode where it's said that the Borg have been menacing the Delta Quadrant for at least 900 years, and an Enterprise episode where some time-traveled Borg from the 24th century left over from First Contact try to contact the 22nd century Borg for reinforcements. (Although I'd be pretty comfortable ignoring a lot of the stuff from either of those shows, since they're both kind of famously badly-written.)

The Narrator

About the Voyager probe entity ... Is this how the Borg started?

This episode isn't appearing on my Podcast app, is anyone else having this issue?

With the main podcast, the joke about warcrimes in space? The world of BattleTech would like a word with you. It would probably be a word of congratulations for committing them, but still. :P

Funny thing about writing for seasons 3 & 4 of Castlevania: those were the two seasons where the writer had full creative control before some scandals came to light. Those lines most likely come across as rough draft, because there wasn't another showrunner to give feedback and/or because there was enough time to type the first draft before someone had to clear their desk and new contracts had to be written.

So this is what the after after show show is.... I would've subscribed sooner if I knew how much of a gem I missed out on

I feel i must point out that Ridley Scott was only a producer on Blade Runner 2049, Denis Villeneuve directed.

Red's monologue about art and creativity was great. Any chance of a Detail Diatribe on creative inspiration? "Creative ecstasy" is my new favourite phrase. I get that, so much, and I've felt it too many times to count, but I've never quite known how to describe it. The random swearing is the main reason why I have no interest in the Castlevania animated series, with the gratuitous gore/violence being the other. It absolutely does feel like an abridged series of an actual series that doesn't exist! That's the perfect way to put it. Also Blue with the Ridley Scott hot take. But, not so hot to me, since I've barely seen any Ridley Scott movies!

Red hearing you go on the long halo tangent on the main podcast was such a joy - as a fan on the games I am so sorry that you were ever subjected to the show.
