Look at that, plot just drizzling down all around. ☔️ I am legitimately so happy you guys are enjoying this anime. As far as adaptations go the team doing this has a great talent for knowing what to highlight and what to cut without hurting the story. 🩷💛💙

People get to the Slime world in three possible ways. They can be reincarnated, like Rimuru, who is the only known instance of that. They can be Summoned, and Shizu and the five children are examples of that. And finally, they can just show up spontaneously, like Yuuki and Hinata Sakagichi. The Summoned usually have conditions placed on their souls by the Summoning ritual. In recent years, the very complicated spell necessary for the Summoning, requiring many mages and a long cooldown time, has been set aside to an extent, in favor of a simpler ritual, but there is a tradeoff in that it reduces the specificity of the desired qualities in the person summoned. The original ritual guarantees an adult with a certain amount of power who, upon arrival, is granted battle-related Skills according to each person's desires. The partial ritual is more random, and you often don't get the ideal person. When children end up being summoned, they are too immature in body and mind to have any Skills. I think it's because their personalities haven't formed enough to have strong goals and desires to harness the energy in a structure called a Skill. If they survived long enough, they would eventually gain some Skills. People who just appear out of nowhere may or may not have enough energy to form Skills, and they may also demonstrate unusual abilities. Yuuki's research has made him come to believe that all people who traverse from our Earth, must get new bodies because Slime world is a semi-physical world, so everyone there must have some minimum of spiritual components, while Earth is purely physical, although there are still souls. This is why it is theorized that people can't go back, but as they said in the episode, there might be a way somehow.

There's a lot of shifts going on in Slime. But everything is connected, and everything is important.
