Kikoru is seeing Kafka as a father figure. And Kafka gets his private ceremony with Mina and draws 50 pushups, Mina turns her back on Kafka cause she couldn't stop the smile. As Kikoru said in the diner if they find out about Kafka the Defense Force would snatch him into a lab for experiments and treat him as a lab rat rather than an ally.
