Also also, Demons belong to different blood lines, which are ruled by Primordial Demons, each associated with a color, Rouge the Red, Blanc the White, Noir the Black, etc.

Lenu Wolf

So yes, Megiddo targeted vital spots and limbs, killing many but injuring even more, sowing confusion, pain, fear, and panic among the whole army, which is why Merciless is so incredibly effective. Also you’ve seen that demon before, in the extra Shizu episode of Season 1, he dated he wanted to be summoned by Rimuru, and now his wish has come true

Lenu Wolf

It was estimated at 10,000 souls, wasn’t exactly

Kenny Costa

Well, you're right. It can be explained, possibly, by the fact that there are variable levels of energy in the souls.

myst0dreamer

If a demon’s scheme is to follow you then you should prolly watch for other people stronger than them

Kenny Costa

I half get it, I think, but is there something else going on here?

myst0dreamer

Doesn't seem to matter how many times I reread the LN's, someone always comes along who says something I never thought of, or see differently, and yet again I have to go back and check!

myst0dreamer

Shit the demon straight up said “I have to be accepted at all costs” the mf knows shit

Kenny Costa

I love building hype man!!!!

Kenny Costa

There is?

myst0dreamer

Next episode might be normal, but that doesn't mean nothing happens! Lol.

Going back to the Megiddo spell: it’s not related to Water Blade, which is a skill long incorporated into other, more powerful Skills. We are in the midst of a major upgrade and reorganization of Rimuru’s Skills. Each Unique, and now Ultimate Skill, is divided into subskills. The lenses in Megiddo are made of water, but they were created by Water Spirits that Rimuru summoned. Then the actual beams are made of light. The physics part is the focusing and aiming, along with the calculations that go into that. The magic portion is external to the Anti-Magic area, and the physics part is within the barrier. I don’t know if Rimuru was trying to be deliberate about aiming, or not aiming, or he just didn’t worry about it. Merciless is a soul manipulation Skill. Rimuru acquired it because at that moment, Rimuru’s desires and his actions coincided to signal to the World that his will was strong in that area. Using that Skill, Rimuru can take control of a soul if the person has given up. But the whole process of Resurrection and Spirit Revival is partly a soul-control process. Rimuru/Raphael had to learn a lot about souls in the process. Black/Noir, as a demon, who as a race are known for their expertise in magic and souls, is impressed with Rimuru’s execution of those spells, especially since some people can do a resurrection, but not so many at once, or not well enough to fully restore the souls themselves. The souls (really, the spiritual bodies of which they are the central part) have memory, power, Skills, consciousness. The brain is a material backup to the soul (or is it vice versa?). Part of the Resurrection is the physical restoration of the bodies, which Rimuru has been working to keep from deteriorating for the past couple of days. This is part of the urgency Raphael has been responding to, to get this done as soon as possible. Rimuru fell into the common “Sleep of Evolution”, which he didn’t realize was coming. Nor did his people realize it. So very few witnessed Rimuru’s “miracle” directly. When Rimuru summoned Black (which others have already said was not deliberate on Rimuru’s part; he thought he was summoning more lower-ranked demons), he offered to the demons all the physical bodies in the campsite in exchange. Demons usually require payment for their services; some kind of exchange is made. Demons cannot manifest in the physical world for long, and usually need to be summoned. With the quantity of bodies given to Black/Noir, Black finally acquired the coveted permanent physical body, which means there is no requirement for him to ever return from whence he came, and if he did, he can return at any time. If there is any limitation to a demon’s power, it is because they cannot stick around for long, normally. It is also considered dangerous to summon a too highly-ranked demon, as you may lose control of it. But here, Black inserted himself into the Summoning process. Back in Season 1, we saw that Black was interested in the mask, and when it showed up in Rimuru’s possession, he transferred his interest to him. The demon mentions angels. Remember that. There is also a slight mistranslation in that speech: he says “You are too young.” What he actually is saying is that the spirit, while a superior spirit, hasn’t lived long enough to match up to him. Demons are stronger as they get older, and one reason for that is their experience in constant battle with each other for superiority (demons are like that) makes them more skilled. There are other reasons too. I believe that only the demons’ magicules are used, not their souls, which would revert back to where they came from. Yes, I think you are right, Beelzebub (known as Lord of Gluttony) can now absorb from outside Rimuru’s body. Raphael, by the way, is now Lord of Wisdom. These are both Ultimate Skills, an important concept in Slimeverse, which they never fully explain in the anime. But it is one of the most important things to understand in Tensura.

I just got a new job so been training instead of enjoying audiobooks 😭

Kenny Costa

Completely understand that feeling. My family just traveled for Thanksgiving and I tried rereading them on the drive down but kept getting car sick. 😣

LaLa

I’ve loved this series since I found it, instantly found the novels and read them but it’s been a while since I re read them and now I’ve got the urge to do it again 🤣

Kenny Costa

Hmm, you might be right. For some reason I could have sworn I read that the other 10,000 souls were used as magicule fuel for the resurrections. Well now that's going to drive me crazy until I go back and reread the LNs. 🤔

LaLa

Never a bad thing to have a little redundancy. All it means is that more people love this series and is excited to talk about it in this community. It's awesome to see so many people loving this. 💗

LaLa

Perfectly said

Kenny Costa

Damn I didn’t even read your comment but hit a lot of things I did, my bad! @myst you’re hella right and basically using shizu’s degenerate to sacrifice itself using the synthesis ability(Transform two differing targets into a single object) is seen later when it’s a skill monger

Kenny Costa

I worded it that way to be silly tho so my bad lol

Kenny Costa

You right but this time was a little different

Kenny Costa

Rimuru has been dark blue before, when he was in sleep mode. Here he was deep blue even before his actual evolution. After the evolution he is less a physical being and more a spiritual one, meaning more magicules.

myst0dreamer

I think the LN makes clear that Raphael's sentience is either a glimmer or newborn, and Raphael herself tries to ignore it. The main thing that it does here is insist on evolving (which means that glimmer was there even before the evolution). So, why did Great Sage insist on evolving itself and Gluttony? Because of Great Sage's devotion to Rimuru, and Rimuru's purpose in all this is to revive his people. She knew that to be successful, she needed more ability or power than she currently had, and a better Gluttony was also necessary. So this acting independently was the fruit of its partnership with Rimuru. She didn't give up despite millions of attempts. ....... I always assumed Rimuru kept hold of those extra souls for a while.

myst0dreamer

so he needed 10k souls and had 57,235%. That's 5723 souls and then half of one... what?

Mempedede

Btw the Great sage, now known as Raphael share the same voice as the Voice of the word/ Words of the world, so it is confusing in the anime version. Raphael is the one explaining/calculating/developing things for Rimuru and only him can hear it, while the Voice of the word is the one announcing events like evolution or skills gained to individuals or sometimes to a group of people, and everyone can hear it. That's the difference between Great Sage/Raphael and the Voice of the word/Words of the world. Btw that demon that Rimuru summoned is one of the seven Primordial demons. The Black Primordial Noir. Under normal circumstances one cannot summer a Primordial just like that. So Noir actually forced his way in when Rimuru summed a demon. Noir is also on of the strongest character in the series. I'm not going to spoil anything but let's just say he is stronger than u think.

Djo

So there’s a normal episode or two after this that reminds you this is still slime isekai and then a higher climax than this, no rush (but rush 👀) but this reaction was what I’ve been waiting for since I found your youtube! So glad to have seen it on the day it dropped here, your reactions are always amazing and I can’t wait to laugh and enjoy these with y’all again soon

Kenny Costa

At 23:25 I just gotta say… John, Chris… you’re both right. He is just using their magicules… There is an ulterior motive. I will not elaborate.

Kenny Costa

So there are classes of demons that follow nobility rankings, and the older a demon is the higher its rank. If killed, a demon restarts from the bottom of the hierarchy Archdemons are thousands of years old and that’s what Razen thought this demon was back (2 mins ago) when he summoned the superior earth spirit and they are extremely powerful There are 7 primordial demons (they have never been killed) and are each named after a color, including this demon, who was called Noir (black) back in shizu’s backstory

Kenny Costa

I love Razen talking shit about what level of demon the dude in black is, while he’s just playing around.

Kenny Costa

The deeper blue color he took was from the evolution like y’all suspected, it’s because the density of his magicules got much higher and he is basically super condensed lol Nailed it 🤣 Also idk if yall noticed the red eyes bc I haven’t seen that part of the reaction yet, but when he turned into his human form at the end of the episode, he also seems to have grown a little in comparison to his old transformation

Kenny Costa

Idr exactly how it went in the light novels but basically the merciless actions of his megido skill was the badass part and the merciless skill itself basically just removes the life from their bodies and is merciful in the actual deaths

Kenny Costa

Time for some more non-spoilery trivia : - As someone else said, that Demon appeared previously, in Season 1 and in the OVAs between Season 1 and 2. What we learn during this time is that his name is Black, and he's quite powerful among demons, though we don't get more details (but he's feared by an archdemon that he kills). A thing that wasn't said here and is only in the LN : he was not supposed to be the one summoned by Rimuru. Right before the summoning, Black defeated the demon that was about to be summoned and took their place instead. - It's not Rimuru that wakes up after his evolution ended, it's his ultimate skill Raphaël (the evolution of Great Sage). She took control of his unconscious body to ensure that the resurrection would work, since she knows how to handle magicules way better than Rimuru does (plus he's heavily weakened by the transformation at this point, so he needs to rest). - Although it's said that, to evolve into Raphaël, Great Sage sacrificed "Degenerate" (the skill Rimuru got from Shizu, that allows him to merge skills to create new ones), and to evolve Gluttony into Beelzebub she sacrificed "Merciless", those skills are not lost : they've become sub-skills of the ultimate skill they were sacrificed for. So Raphaël still has access to Degenerate, and Merciless is a part of Beelzebub now. According to what I've found, Merciless did in the LN exactly what is shown in the anime, though one thing was not clearly stated (or at least, not shown in a comprehensible manner) : Merciless allowed Rimuru to take control of the soul of those who lost their will to fight. It doesn't immediately kill them, but Rimuru had control of their souls and decided to "harvest" them, thus killing all of the surviving soldiers. This episode, as well as the previous ones, are among my favourite episodes of the show. There are other episodes at the end of the season that I enjoy just as much, and some really nice episodes in Season 3, but nothing tops what I felt the first time I watched Rimuru evolve into a Demon Lord through a brutal but well-deserved massacre.

KeterLordFR

Don’t feel robbed, the fruit of his labor was in this episode 🤙🏼

Kenny Costa

LETS GOOOOO THIS IS THE PEAK OF THE WAR

Kenny Costa

You meet that Demon back in season 1 he is known as Black

Lazzarous

The whole attack was much more brutal in the LN. He aimed for no vital bodyparts to saw confusion and terror in the soldiers. Also the beams of light came in waves, with noone even understanding what was happening. All the soldiers saw was there comrades suddenly dropping dead

Peelong

Rimuru is asleep, Great Sage (now Raphael) is running the body and doing the work. The first words spoken were "Notice" what the Great Sage says when talking to Rimuru, also the eyes are red.

Hhound42

GREAT REACTION GUYS! Love that you guys were so into it. 🤩 A couple quick clarifications for you to help you: 1. The demon that John doesn't trust yet you have seen before. He showed up at the end of last season when the kids got their spirits and in the end Shizu episode. 2. They never explain it in the anime, but Great Sage actually copied the sound of the voice for the Words of the World to be able to talk to Rimuru. So the crew is hearing the Words of the World not Great Sage. 3. During the resurrection you pointed out Rimuru's eyes are different, that's because he is sleeping. You are seeing Raphael carry out Rimuru's commands. Meaning that his skill is now deducing, anticipating, and doing Rimuru's will on its own. Sentience. Important fact they also don't explain in the anime but do in the LN. 🤷‍♀️ 4. He harvested 20,000 souls not 10,000. He needed 10,000 to evolve himself. He harvested ALL of the army. The other 10,000 were needed for the resurrection and still needed a bit more from the other two demons to properly revive his people's souls. Can't wait for you to see the aftermath of all of this. Definitely affects some geopolitical movements. 😅 Also, I do believe you're in for a nice surprise coming up. 🩷💛🩵
