Dang a freaking week long festival, that makes me even more stoked now!! I really loved getting to see Mjollmile have more screen time. He's such a fun character and I really enjoyed his and Rimuru's interactions the past few episodes! That is some wild backstory about Gobuemon, sounds like Mjollmile's bodyguards are in for some tough times haha...but that's probably a good thing though! Been loving these episodes lately, so much good new character development and world building.

Comment 4: To explain why the bovoids and equinoids didn't notice Rimuru's strength at first: Rimuru has said that the stronger people are, the more they hide their auras. Remember the situation at Walpurgis when there were also people showing deceptive auras. Even though Rimuru displayed his Lord’s Ambition, the two combatants were so wrapped up in their mutual animosity that they weren’t even paying attention. What happened when Daggrull’s three sons showed up was that they displayed a lot of power, i.e., a lot of magicules. But they were completely undisciplined. They weren't trying to hide their power or auras at all. Some people considered that Shion beating Daggrull's three sons as a violation of some sort, but the whole point was to prove pure power wasn't the only thing necessary to best someone in battle. And no, she didn't use her cheat Skill. She used judo moves. She just is becoming more focused and disciplined in using the power she has. Repeatedly they make the point that monsters and Majin rely too much on their inborn power. Rimuru did conclude that Shion and Benimaru were stronger than before, and maybe even Geld and Soei, as much as an ex-Demon Lord. In fact, that's the basis of my theory that Daggrull sent his sons there because he was impressed by Rimuru's and his people's use of their strength at Walpurgis, and I also think that implies that his sons were causing havoc because no one could beat them, and they wouldn't train because they didn’t see the need. They needed to get out and experience the real world. I think Daggrull thought his sons would learn something if they went to Tempest, like a little humility, and actually see that the power they were born with wasn’t the be all and end all. Looks like he got what he wanted in Tempest. Meanwhile, the Bovoids and the Equinoids had seen the power of the brothers when they broke the barrier, but they also saw that Shion beat them; and I think they recognized that Rimuru must be stronger than that. The advantages of this situation for Rimuru were that not only would he be able to get Daggrull to owe him a favor, he didn't want to make an enemy of him, considering Tempest wasn't that stable yet. Rimuru had seen Shion train the Yomigaeri and thought she was way meaner than Hakurou even. He thought there was a chance Daggrull's sons would even run away, which wouldn't bother him. He expected Shion to complain, though. Then the Gozu and Mezu had a change of heart (easier to write those names for me). Rimuru figured they must have liked to fight since they'd been at war for a century, and despite their earlier attitudes and Rigurd's disapproval of them, he decided to give them a chance to be useful. He offered them an arena for them to fight it out. Rigurd still threatened them if they acted up again. Rimuru told them to swear loyalty and stop fighting for the time being.

Comment 3: Mjollmile's Insights and Contributions. Mjollmile contributed a great deal to Rimuru’s goals and thought processes, way beyond what is shown in the anime. Upon arriving in Tempest, Mjollmile immediately started having ideas. When he saw the amenities in his new house, that is, running water, magic-driven burners, baths, and toilets, he compared it to living conditions he had seen elsewhere, and asked about how this compared to the economical lodgings in the SW of the city. Rimuru indicated that they didn't have individual baths, but they had toilets, while there were low-cost public baths nearby, and some inns had them for free. Impressed that even commoners could expect this level of services, and in all parts of town, he envisioned many adventurers would come, if they could find a steady income there. Here’s where Mjollmile jumps to conclusions and assumes Rimuru had come up with the dungeon for a lofty purpose. He said he had thought Rimuru had decided to provide charity for out-of-work adventurers, with the Forest being more stable and all, but now Mjollmile sees the grand vision that Rimuru had in mind. Meanwhile, Rimuru is confused. He had thought the Dungeon was just a fun attraction. But Mjollmile is babbling on about more and more adventurers being out of a job, monster counts dwindling, and making the Dungeon their workplace. He starts to expound on selling healing potions, adventurers’ gear, etc. He's picturing the town not as a tourist site or health spa, but a place where adventurers can permanently reside. He sees inns with fantastic service, coliseum attracting tourists, and a Dungeon providing excitement and a decent wage, and now Rimuru was wondering if this idea wasn’t worth hearing out. He had intended to offer money for the items found in the dungeon, but more as buying back souvenirs. He hadn't thought about people making real money there, and thought most would go away having lost money. The advantages were that there was no danger of overhunting or wrecking the ecosystem. In fact, it might be to Tempest's benefit to cull the dungeon monsters’ numbers, and buy back the monsters' materials. There would always be more monsters. Rimuru is getting really enthusiastic about this. More money in adventurers’ pockets means more money to spend in Tempest, allowing further support for the adventurers, and maybe they could process and export the materials. It would also fulfill an internal need for magic stones. Maybe this would entice the Free Guild to build a branch in town, and they could give them exclusive rights to the dungeon business so they wouldn't compete with them. If the Guild paid the adventurers directly, it would bring in foreign capital, which in turn allow them to import goods from outside, especially taking into consideration the current situation where they weren't getting any imports from Eurazania for the time being. It also supported Tempest’s becoming a trade hub, as Rimuru hoped for. He was trying to move larger and larger shipments of goods around; for that, he had made sure the roads were wide. He planned to eventually parallel the roads with railways. Mjollmile's talking about advertising now. Rimuru realized he’s getting ahead of himself. Rimuru says he has sent out invitations to world leaders, and some journalists were working with them. Mjollmile sends notifications to merchants, as I mentioned previously. After a short time, Mjollmile integrated himself and his operation into the existing administration smoothly. He understood the resources and personnel he had to work with, and delegated accordingly. He sent invitations to his connections, nobility, merchants, other VIPs, etc. He skillfully organized the performances at the new theater, format and rules for the arena battles, admission fee for the Dungeon, the prices of items sold there, inventory and sales methods for the stalls around the arena, and working out Veldora's hibachi-grill concept (teppanyaki). As an addendum, having returned, Myrd (one of the three dwarves) added artistic touches to the arena Mjollmile's staff were doing a soft opening selling to the workers in the area for practice.

Comment 2: The Audiences: Day 1: 1. Those that came to the audiences were in one of three categories: worship, observation, and fear. Observation included some who looked down on Rimuru, a large portion of whom came from the new territory on the far side of the Great Ameld River. Rimuru felt a display of strength would solve that. Those that feared him were a bigger problem, as he didn't want to impose a reign of terror on them. One example were the rabbitfolk, a race of demi-humans who were basically devolved beastfolk who couldn't transform and who were about as strong as a human. They had rabbit ears. But they all did have the Detect Danger Skill. The daughter of the leader had immediately run to take in the sights which made her father worry she would cause some trouble. This daughter is the main character in a spin-off manga called ? (I need to look it up.) Her name is Framea. Other races that had initially feared Rimuru were the kobolds and halflings. The strategy Rimuru employed to handle this category was to convince them he didn't value them strictly on their ability to fight. 2. In the LN, Abiru arrived looking like a “warrior in the prime of his life”, i.e., he looked like a human in the same way Soka does. He is also a dragonewt. Abiru had excommunicated his son, so he wasn't able to initiate conversation with his son. Rimuru called Gabiru out so that maybe the two could have a conversation and let him back into the family. Gabiru was slow on the uptake about Rimuru's intentions, so Rigurd pointed out to him that this was a rare opportunity and it actually was awkward for Abiru to have an estranged son doing so well. 3. Next the High Orcs, not shown in the anime, who trusted Rimuru enough that their entourages consisted of their families, who were also High Orcs. This is actually unusual. (What about the Hobgoblins? It must be true for them too.) Their names were being passed on also. The birth rate was lower than before due to their evolution, and they could devote more time to raising each. Rimuru also took the view that these children would be the manpower of the future. 4. The treants and the dryads were next. Only Trya and Doreth (multiple spellings) came because Treants can’t move, so the dryads were their representatives. Rimuru had been visiting their settlement frequently. Zegion and Apito (beetle and bee) were protecting them, and that's where the honey was coming from. The only problem they were seeing is a lower density of magicules throughout the forest making it harder to transport (teleport). It was affecting the dryads, and it was probably caused by the road barriers. Rimuru wanted to fix that but they protested, because although they used magicules to form the bodies he saw, it wasn't really that big a deal to them. To transfer the treants into the labyrinth, apparently Ramiris can extend a corridor to where the treants are. Moving the treants in would make the place a lot more pleasant for rest. It helped keep the labyrinth more stable, make magicules easier to manage, plus provide air conditioning. The treants liked the high concentration of magicules in the air. Treants looked like plain trees most of the time, spending most of their time asleep. And the dryads promised to help maintain the labyrinth. To reiterate some relevant info about the labyrinth here, the largest floor in area is Floor 95. It is about 5 kilometers in radius. It was a safe zone since it was a multiple of 5. That is where the beastman camp was, and now the treants’ settlement. There will be a rest stop on this floor as well, where all the different floors’ rest stop locations have a door to there. The elves will join them there. 5. Rimuru is still aware of dangers on the road, and is directing Souei to look into the elf slave situation. 6. There are still things wrapping up in Falmuth, soon to be renamed. Rimuru keeps in contact with Diablo, etc., telepathically, and Souei’s people transmit intelligence to back that up. Day 2: Stronger Species, Largest Factions. 1. The official English translation of the LN didn't adequately describe the origin of the bovoid and equinoid creatures in Japanese legend. Most of this is from Buddhist influence I believe. The Japanese hell is called Jigoku. The guardians to the exit, and they seem to also be assistant torturers, are Horse-head and Ox-head creatures called Gozu and Mezu. These names are used in the anime. I forget which one is which, but I think Mezu is the horse. Apparently a similar pair appear in Chinese mythology, and maybe elsewhere. I have seen these types of characters in other anime and manga. Little-known fact, Rigurd had been secretly working out, and was stronger that Rigur or Gobta. Rimuru estimates that he was stronger than either of the bovoid or equinoid leader. Rimuru didn't think anyone had ever looked down on him as much as these two had. He had thought it would be better than being feared, but he was wondering if he should rethink that. 2. See Comment 4 for more about the giant brothers and the equinoids and bovoids. 3. Now an elf elder and a few of his men arrived. There's a whole lot here about elf origins, which I will save for a later time. For now, elves grew to maturity at about age 20, then they did not age until about 20 years before their deaths. (This is the key to why elf slaves are so valuable.) But they did not grow in population much because they didn't tend to feel the need to keep their bloodline going. In general, war zones were one of their chief fears. They normally installed barriers to confuse the senses to prevent enemies from finding their settlements, but if the trees themselves fell, the barriers fell, not to mention if the enclaves were in plain sight, the barrier wouldn't be very effective. They tried to move again and again, but the warzone got bigger and bigger. Over time they had lost so much population they had trouble keeping things going. In the past there were many more elves and an elf kingdom, but that was the ancient past. They had scattered across the world and turned nomadic. Rimuru had just let the treants and dryads move into Floor 95, which I mentioned above, making a forest. Since it's a forest, Rimuru thinks it's an appropriate place for the elves to live. The elves and the treants apparently got along well. There were several jobs that the elves could do down there, and he hoped that the jobs would lure some of the elves who had left to return.

Comment 1: This is in the lead up to the festival, it hasn’t officially started yet. There are the invited guests who need to arrive, and they are still working on the venues, etc. The festival itself is slated to last a week. 1. About Dragons: The dragons, other than the true dragons, are monsters created from broken-down components of the body of a true dragon. (More to this, but possibly spoiler territory.) The main distinction between them is that regular dragons are monsters, and as such have a physical presence in the world. They resembled true dragons but they were more like big lizards–which is why Luminus calling Veldora a lizard is insulting to him. The essence of the true dragon's body spread and were still birthing Lesser Dragons in areas with high magicule concentrations; if there were enough bits included, it could even be an Arch Dragon. The most powerful of these are Dragon Lords, which is an evolution after spending several centuries as Arch Dragons. These come in four types depending on the element they are affiliated with, plus they have human-level wisdom. They were much closer to being spiritual life-forms, had extended lifespans, but couldn't resurrect themselves from death like True Dragons. As a reminder, the dragonewts are related to dragons: the lizardmen were devolutions from the dragons, as are the Dragon Faithful who mixed with humans in a different path. Soka and Gabiru are both now dragonewts, but their evolutionary paths might diverge in the future. A Dragon Lord would be about Demon Lord Class (Seed) level in strength, or as strong as a high-level spirit. But it turned out even Milim couldn't handle a Dragon Lord. She said she would go after Arch Dragons with some elemental traits, that were close to becoming Dragon Lords. Dragon Lords came in four types: earth, water, fire, and wind. The element -imbued dragons below them came in four types as well, Earth, Frost, Fire, and Wind. To go off a little into spirits and elements: there are five elements. Earth > Sky > Wind > Water > Fire > Earth. This didn't apply to dragons. Battle experience was more important, meaning older dragons were stronger than younger ones. So, the floors they will go on will be just before Veldora: 99: Fire. Fire Dragon. 98: Ice. Frost Dragon. 97: Lightning. Wind Dragon. 96: Earthquake. Earth Dragon. Sadly, the LN does not go into detail about how Milim actually captures the dragons. I do know most dragons make their homes in the mountains between Dwargon and the Forest of Jura, and I think also in the mountains north of Dwargon. (Another reason the paths between east and west have few safe routes). 2. The mansion you saw was not just lodgings but Mjollmile's new home. Considering all the money Mjollmile had made and would make for Rimuru, he couldn't charge him. Rimuru had noted the house Mjollmile had been living in back in Blumund. When he left Blumund, Mjollmile promoted and left in charge his most promising assistant and gave him the home. Rigurd is the head of the administration in Tempest, so Mjollmile will be working closely with him. Rigurd warned Rimuru that having everyone accept Mjollmile's presence in an important position wouldn't be as easy as it had been before, because the main reason people like Benimaru or Diablo had been accepted was because everyone could tell how strong they were, and Rimuru didn't want to force Mjollmile or any non-citizen upon the workers and populace. Even Vesta was still a consultant. Mjollmile would have to prove himself with results everyone could appreciate. It has been difficult to keep up with all the accounting especially because many were umable to read, write, or do sums yet. Vesta has been involved in rectifying that. Upon Mjollmile's arrival, he immediately realized the further potential the labyrinth could produce for Tempest and for adventurers, not to mention the world. A separate comment will describe this more fully. One thing that Mjollmile is going to do immediately is send messages to some of the larger merchant operations to inform them of the festival. 3. About Gobemon. He's a young, capable, and ambitious Hobgoblin who had vied with Gobta for the top spot in the Goblin Riders. Having lost out to Gobta, he quit the force because he didn't want to be a subordinate to Gobta. The reason Gobta was selected and not Gobuemon was because Gobta was a better leader. Gobta encouraged his troops, helped them train, inspired them, and delegated. Gobuemon wanted to do everything himself. One reason Rimuru assigned him this job was to have him see how Mjollmile handled his people. Obviously Rimuru was worried about Kazak as well, but he told Gobuemon not to be noticed. Rimuru told him that if he were successful, he would give him his old sword. He was noticed. One thing the anime omitted was that in the process of fighting these basilisks, he lost an arm. He refused to take a potion to restore it, saying he had failed because he had been told not to be noticed, not to mention it was his failure to have lost an arm. He did say it would grow back eventually. He also considered he didn't deserve the sword. Rimuru distracted him and threw a potion at him, then convinced Gobuemon of the error in his thinking, and gave him the sword. He's also going to be training Mjollmile's other bodyguards. 4. Interesting question of what will happen a long time in the future. The more spiritual a being you are, the higher up on the evolutionary ladder a monster is, the longer they live. Demon Lords are essentially all immortal, and a lot of the higher level subordinates of Rimuru are close. They can still be killed, including Rimuru. True Dragons, Demons, spirits, and some others have their unique ways of persisting. But we don’t know how Rimuru plans to perpetuate his society. He is trying to put in a few failsafes, but it’s kind of early to go much beyond the immediate development. But I really think he is taking the long term into account. Maybe when the light novels are concluded we will find out.

That totally makes sense! Glad those dude got put in their place real quick by Shion! And for real I have really enjoyed Ramiris getting to have more fun with Rimuru and crew!

The Heck Podcast

My own feelings about why the Bovine and Equine minotaur couldn't sense Rimuru but could the brothers is that Rimuru has restraint. He's very aware that his aura can hurt people so while he lets it out he doesn't really use it as a force to harm. Kind of like when you train dogs with 'shock' collars. It doesn't exert major force to hurt them, but it reminds them of the boundaries. The brothers were being little shits and letting everything out, purposely trying to be menacing. - On a different note, love my favorite pixie getting more people in her domain and screentime! Great reaction, I'm so happy you're enjoying and theorizing on the world building! 🩷💛🩵
