Cerulean Spectre

Yes, the vegetables represent the coming and going of the ancestors, the cucumber steed (horse) is the fast carrier of the ancestral spirits to the home for the celebration and the eggplant (cow) is the slow moving carrier of the ancestral spirits away at the end of the festival. If I remember the explanation I read a long time ago.

Can't wait for the next episode. as is said in part by the other comment the Bon festival is a celebration to honor the dead and spirits of their ancestors as is seen by the Ogres/Kijin when they were talking about the old lord and Rimuru with in part Shizu I guess. this festival happens in July, August or sometimes September depending where you are from.

Yes, there's a Bon Festival. In last week's episode, they performed the Bon dance, which is performed even in some places in the US. I got to participate once myself. If there's a local Japanese summertime cultural festival in your area, you could see it there. In Japan, summer is the scary season, not autumn, because of the Bon festival. ..... I don't know if you've seen enough anime yet to know this, but the school swimsuit (in people's memories, mostly), the maid uniform and the bunny outfit are some of top most common tropes of (mostly) female costumes. I could list more forever, though. ..... When Rimuru was listing off "today's accomplishments", that was another excuse for a party, along the lines of "our two-week anniversary" or such. ..... What Souei was talking about is the traditional and most common type of comedy in Japan, called manzai. From Wikipedia: "Manzai usually involves two performers —a straight man (tsukkomi) and a funny man (boke)—trading jokes at great speed. Most of the jokes revolve around mutual misunderstandings, double-talk, puns and other verbal gags. "In recent times, manzai has often been associated with the Osaka region, and manzai comedians often speak in the Kansai dialect during their acts."
