We know how tough finances can be sometimes, especially with how expensive everything is right now. You're the first person to compliment us on our prices. Thank you for that. We try to keep things affordable while also charging what we think our content is worth. Really appreciate your support and input here!

The Heck Podcast

Thanks for letting us know. We always like catching the intros and outros at least one good time.

The Heck Podcast

Episode 24 is the last episode of 1st Season, so 25 has a new opening and ending

great reaction

I just want to say thank you for keeping your Patreon membership affordable. As someone who likes to support people who watch my favorite shows, it gets *very* difficult when people are trying to charge $15+ a month in my local currency when all I want to do is watch maybe 1 or 2 shows they're reacting to. Your $2/mo tier is perfect for me. When it's a decision between supporting a single $15/mo creator or multiple $2/mo creators, I'll do the multiple creators every single time.

Oh wow that is wild! We were wondering how the kidnappers would be getting her money, so that makes sense now. Glad you're here for this one with us! I love me some anime that makes ya have to think a little bit.

The Heck Podcast

As far as opening and endings goes, nothing special until episode 13, where something new appears.

As others have said, it is loosely based on historical China. Yes, the emperor would have a Harem situation with multiple concubines. Also, ladies in waiting are more the personal servants to a noble woman (who could be minor nobility themselves), in this case an imperial concubine. So going from a general servant to the personal servant of one of the highest ranking women in the real palace is a big promotion, but they would not be in line to be a concubine unless the emperor decided to take a personal interest in them.

I'm glad you guys picked this up! It's a really good show! With Season 2 almost finished, I'm excited to go back to the beginning to see the little things I missed. You're going to love this show! It's a fun ride.

Right now 2nd season is playing, at Ep 21. Both have 24 eps. The OP and ED switch halfway in each season, so you'll have 4 OPs and 4 EDs. Also, Xiaoling, is best "best friend".

Hunter De Lupin

Finally! Been waiting for this one to show up. keep your thinking caps on and like Overlord little comments in passing will sprout into big events later. In this time period often children would be sold off by the parents if there were too many mouths to feed, especially females. The kidnappers faked up papers representing themselves as Maomao's family so she could be "legally" sold off to the rear palace. 15:20 Lead was used in whitening compounds in cosmetics up till the mid 1800s in Europe before they knew about lead toxicity.

By the way, the voice actor for Maomao is Aoi Yūki, who also voices Tanya, in Saga of Tanya the Evil

YEESH!! That is wild!!

I wasn't sure you noticed, but this story was set in China. The closest parallel is the Ming Dynasty, 1368-1644 C.E. However, the story diverges a lot from actual emperors and events, so it is merely a guide. I don't know if the crests on the architecture serve the same purpose as in Japan. ........ Interesting comment about what would happen to society if the men had no sex drive (or whatever you meant), but I think you'd be surprised at what rumor has it that eunuchs got up to. Also, I don't know much about the history of eunuchs in China, but in some periods, eunuchs made up the bulk of the bureaucracy, and sometimes were the de facto rulers while the Emperors were weak.

My research is that eunuchs in China specifically, had both the balls and penis cut off at the same time. Apparently that is called emasculation, not castration. Also, I don't think there was much in the way of reconstruction. This was very dangerous, and, iirc, only 1 in 3 survived the procedure. This resulted in characteristic body changes over the lifespan, especially if it happened before adolescence.

Okay thank you for bringing us this information! We had still been wondering haha!! A pretty wild freaking practice. Also stoked to be watching this one too.

The Heck Podcast

Ahh thank you for that. So everybody is distrustful around there it seems!

The Heck Podcast

Small but important correction: it is shown that it was not Concubine Lihua (the mother of the Prince that passed) who ignored the flower and knocked it off of the window sill. It was one of her ladies in waiting. So Lihua never actually saw the message itself. Lihua did not trust that the face powder was dangerous because she heard it from Gyokuyou, her rival. Perhaps if she directly saw the message, she would have believed it and the Prince would have lived.

Daniel Meissner

Most of the time eunuchs only have only their balls removed but in extreme cases they had their penis removed as well as for how they go to the bathroom after idk, a lady in waiting just refers to women attendant who serves a queen, princess, or other noblewoman also im soooo glad you watching this its one of my favorite shows that came out recently

Leliana Villin

So far she is very rad!! Thank you so much for being patient with us, we really appreciate it!

The Heck Podcast

A lady-in-waiting, also called a waiting maid, is a female personal assistant or attendant to a queen, princess, high-ranking noblewoman or in this case a concubine of the Emperor. They act as companions, help with daily tasks, and are often noblewomen themselves, though of lower rank than the person they serve. Also this anime is portraying a fictional China due to all the names they used in it like for example Maomao means cat in Chinese while in Japanese is neko.

Omar Rodriguez

YAAAAYYYY!!! I have been waiting for this reaction since last week! 🤩 you guys are going to love Maomao!
